Video: Happy Valentine’s Day from the Democratic National Committee
posted at 12:00 pm on February 14, 2008 by Allahpundit
Amusing, especially the part where they knock Bush and Mac for daring to mouth the measliest empty promises about opposing amnesty. For added entertainment, imagine a cheeky RNC ad in this same “gay for each other” vein and what the reaction to it would be like at, say, TPM or Rick Ellensburg’s outrage nook at Salon.
Update: Bryan asks if this means the Dems are in favor of amnesty. Aren’t they?

Blowback

The “imagine if Republicans did it” line gets old.
Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not getting less true… but that’s why it’s getting so tiresome. :-/

So funny! But the Dems gay allies ought to be outraged.
jgapinoy on February 14, 2008 at 12:06 PM
In this ad, are the Democrats coming out FOR amnesty? Good to know.

Sadly, the Republican Valentine’s Day gimmicks are not much bettter. They need good comedy writers STAT.
Debbie Schlussel on February 14, 2008 at 12:12 PM
This ad was obviously aimed at the Republican base that cringes at the thought of a third Bush term.

We don’t have to imagine, I created one a couple of years ago.. though it’s only part of this video (you’re waiting for 1:38)

(oh, and I agree with Bryan… why is someone opposing amnesty a reason to attack them? I mean, we don’t buy Bushcain’s “I’m against amnesty” rhetoric, but the message in the ad is that Dems are for it)

Using allusions of homosexuality as a tool of ridicule? Gotta love that tolerance and sensitivity.
LimeyGeek on February 14, 2008 at 12:23 PM
Wait, where exactly was the morally offensive gay-ness? That is, how should this offend homosexuals? I thought it was a really cute ad, not attacking but rather making the case for McCain being cast in the mold of Bush. Let’s face it: They *do* like each other. They may even *heart* each other. But where does that become gay?
As an aside, look for this sort of ad to be more common as the Dems seek to increase turnout against McCain.

I think it was the romance music, the hearts, all the pics of them hugging that implied they are gay for each other… And I didn’t get the impression it was complimentary.

Their only plan is to run against Bush. It won’t work twice. Progress in Iraq is obvious. The 30% of voters in the middle are not for all troops out by the end of 2009,or for America looking like a weak country without the will to finish Iraq. Let the DNC put this out to its base for fund raising then hit Obama in the debates with it. Under no circumstances will he say all troops out by 2009. Diffuse the issue with progress.
Theworldisnotenough on February 14, 2008 at 12:35 PM
I guess. Maybe I’m trying not to see it? It’s not meant to be complimentary I’m sure. BushCheneyMcCainSatan!

Exactly when did Jimmuh have a second term?
Is that what we called the Clinton years?
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on February 14, 2008 at 12:54 PM
Probably none of it was from the RNC, but I do remember seeing a ton of similar stuff with Kerry and Edwards after Edwards joined the ticket.
Yoosaion on February 14, 2008 at 2:07 PM
They looked for any phrases that both Bush and McCain used. I don’t think they thought far enough as to whether or not they truly disagreed with them.
