Too bad to check: Hillary digging up dirt on superdelegates?

Pure rumor but too much fun not to pass along. How would this work, though? She’s not going to blackmail 600-700 people, let alone powerful party insiders, and if she gets wiped out on March 4 in Texas and Ohio that’s about how many of them are going to break Obama’s way. Unless she’s counting on a down-to-the-wire race where a handful can be flipped, this is crap. Rose-scented crap, but crap.

Meanwhile, the endorsement game continues apace. Madam Speaker’s leaning Obama but the coveted Silky Pony imprimatur may go to our gal after all. Savor the flavor of a one-term senator who’s reversed himself on every major issue and who’s known in popular culture mainly for the exorbitance of his haircuts questioning Obama’s experience and toughness.

Update: A little extra nuance for Silky, the anti-lobbyist crusader.

The guy who’s whole theme was to get corporate hands off of Washington might endorse Clinton? heh.

That’s a given. There is no way that he gives his nod to a man with no visible hairdo.

Would it surprise anyone if she was digging up dirt on the superdelegates? Not that it’ll work, they’d be facing the wrath of the nutroots and Democrat activists if they caved to her anyway.

doubleplusundead on February 14, 2008 at 3:31 PM

Of course Silky will go to Hillary, its a better ticket balance.

700? No. But I’ve no doubt she’d let quite a few know that it’s in their best interest to back her.

This wouldn’t really be surprising. Blackmail, bribe, whatever works…it’s pretty much the Clintons’ M.O. at this point, isn’t it?

CP on February 14, 2008 at 3:43 PM

If there is the smallest kernel of truth to this, you can bet the BO camp is sifting through the mud too.

Either way this goes, I’m hoping it goes all the way to counting the supers, then watching half of the D’s electorate have a meltdown, accusing the other of everything they accuse Cons of committing.

Hey, a fella can dream can’t he?

swami on February 14, 2008 at 3:52 PM

Hey Wait…. I thought only George Bush and the Republicans stole elections. Surely the party of everything good and decent would not stoop to that level and eat their own in an obscene quest for power!!!! Not the Dems.

Breaking news: Dogs bark, birds fly and Clintons act like Clintons.

I’m not unsurprised by this if true- hell, I fully expected that that they’d be digging up dirt on the superdelegates. They couldn’t go after all 700+, but given how close things are, “convincing” 20 to go their way could have an impact.

I can`t believe Edwards could be so two-faced……..I really can`t.

Wait, YES I CAN! :)

I think Obama shot himself in the foot with his pledge to appoint Mitt Romney Secretary of Lookin’ Good on Letterman. No way is Silky going to endorse him now!

Told you she was putting those FBI files to good use.

Valiant on February 14, 2008 at 4:44 PM

She’ll need the blackmail assuming she does win Texas and Ohio; if she doesn’t ity’s over. I pegged this probability quite awhile ago and again recently. Not a difficult prediction, given the Clinton’s love for running a campaign like a back-alley knife fight.

michaelo on February 14, 2008 at 4:51 PM

Bill can tell Hill which one’s he’s slept with.

Valiant on February 14, 2008 at 4:44 PM

We knew all along that the FBI files weren’t there for decoration. The Clintons should have been kicked out of the White House just for that. Can you imagine if that had happened during Reagan’s or GWBush’s administration? Geeeesh!

At this very moment, the Clinton Mafia is busy delving into every aspect each of the Super Delegate’s life. We know this from the Clinton’s past history, which can be described as ‘political blackmailing’.

pocomoco on February 14, 2008 at 6:03 PM

Obama’s political action committee has doled out more than $694,000 to superdelegates since 2005, the study found, and of the 81 who had announced their support for Obama, 34 had received donations totaling $228,000.

Clinton’s political action committee has distributed about $195,000 to superdelegates, and only 13 of the 109 who had announced for her have received money, totaling about $95,000.

The above quote was taken out of an article on the Boston Globe’s web page (boston.com).

If this is true then neither of these people should be running for President – both should be in prison. I am aware that candidates dig up all the dirt they can on their opponents but this is pure bribery. I know there must be a law against this type of activity so why aren’t they being prosecuted? Somebody tell me where I am wrong, please.

OBX Pete on February 14, 2008 at 7:20 PM

Hillary? Stoop that low? surely your kidding.

johnnyU on February 15, 2008 at 12:24 AM

Once she’s off the choice list, we’ll go from there. SHe’s #1 to go down the tubes. Good work folks.

johnnyU on February 15, 2008 at 12:25 AM

Did the old USSR communist party have super delegates too? This just doesn’t smell to democratic but communists usually name themselves *-democratic-*.
