OMG! You have got to be kidding me! What the hell were they thinking? Anyway, last time I looked, it was not against the law to ride in a wheelchair even if you were perfectly fine! Whats next? Dumping Granny out of her scooter at the grocery store?!

Bring your checkbook.
The Easter Seals has a video just for you and it you don’t end well.

That b_tch should be charged with assault. A year in the klink would do her some good.
TheSitRep on February 12, 2008 at 5:18 PM
It would be vaguely ammusing if it were not real.
Think Eddie Murphy in Trading Places.
That’s outrageous.
natesnake on February 12, 2008 at 5:18 PM
Clearly, the officers were doing that for their own safety. Good shoot. I mean good taze, er.. good dump.

The paradox of government jobs… providing service we need.. from those who cant get a real job.

I thought this might be funny. I was seriously wrong.
That tough cop needs to be smacked up one side of the head and down the other.
BowHuntingTexas on February 12, 2008 at 5:21 PM
From the story:
Not only did they dump him out, but after they saw he was telling the truth they kept him on the ground and searched him. Lovely.
amerpundit on February 12, 2008 at 5:22 PM
We can expect a whole lot more of this type of thing if Obama becomes president, too.
12thman on February 12, 2008 at 5:23 PM
What does “suspended without pay” mean?
What “further facts” could they “gather” which would put this in a different light?
Hiney Von Pewps on February 12, 2008 at 5:23 PM
That was brutal.
TDBURN on February 12, 2008 at 5:25 PM
And just a small correction. He isn’t a paraplegic – he’s a quadriplegic.
BowHuntingTexas on February 12, 2008 at 5:25 PM
Its due process they cant be fired without going before a board. Is in the link. The Cheif said anything short of dismissial is unexceptible. Look for Al Sharton to rage about how the Black police officers rights were violated by this video.

I’ve seen a lot of spinals, Dude, and this guy is a fake. A f’ing goldbricker. This guy f’ing walks. I’ve never been more certain of anything in my life!

Suspended without pay should be turned into fired without unemployment benefits…
JustinHiggins on February 12, 2008 at 5:29 PM
“Don’t dump me, bro’!”
In this case it should be from a rafter, in a laundry bag, so that passers-by can take punches. A week’s suspension should do the trick.

Nah, look at it t he other way around, there’s your outrage.
Kini on February 12, 2008 at 5:32 PM
Looks like a clear cut case of racism to me. Black deputy dumps white paraplegic, no story. If the situations were reversed, Jesse Jackson would have been there the next day.
redshirt on February 12, 2008 at 5:33 PM
Dear Florida,
We’re genuinely concerned with your behavior. It’s gone on long enough- please seek help.

Hollowpoint on February 12, 2008 at 5:36 PM
Hopefully every so called officer involved including those who just stood idly by watching will be fired over this. The one who actually dumped the guy should face arrest and prosecution.

No, Frank, that was the real Dr. Meinheimer!
see-dubya on February 12, 2008 at 5:37 PM
That joke stopped being funny a long time ago. Regardless of what Jesse Jackson would do if the roles were reversed, it’s just another case of stupidity.
Hollowpoint on February 12, 2008 at 5:37 PM
Amen
A) Not one of them went to assist the guy
B) Not one of them even bothered to file a report on the incident, which is amazing in itself, especially knowing that the cameras are everywhere and someone was bound to see this
Son of Sam Kinison on February 12, 2008 at 5:41 PM
So how do cases like this work, do they just hand him a blank check and tell him to fill in the numbers or what?
Idiots.

stenwin77 on February 12, 2008 at 5:48 PM
This is just awful. JustinHiggins said: Suspended without pay should be turned into fired without unemployment benefits… – and that is absolutely correct. If ever I saw a firing offense, this was it.
Now for Free Constitution on February 12, 2008 at 5:21 PM, who said: “The paradox of government jobs… providing service we need.. from those who cant get a real job”
I was a government worker for more than 30 years. Your idea of who takes these jobs is out of date. The government hires from the same “talent” pool that all other employers hire from. What you have here is a badly educated employee who also lacks compassion and lacks proper training for the job. Every employer has a few.
reine.de.tout on February 12, 2008 at 5:51 PM
He should have done what the officer said. The officer told him to get up. . . he’s lucky he wasn’t shot. You have to follow every order from an officer. Now here we have another innocent cop who is going to be railroaded for trying to protect and serve.

stenwin77 on February 12, 2008 at 5:46 PM
I’m not saying he wasn’t laughing at this and deserves punishment… but the video cuts from the vic on the floor to the laughing cop where you can see the vic is back in his wheelchair…
No way to know from that just what the cop was laughing at. For all we know, he’s just your average racist, misogynist white cop laughing that his black colleague just got herself fired.
krakatoa on February 12, 2008 at 6:18 PM
oh, we found our answer (from the HuffPo commenters)
Haha, man these people are pathetic. Remember, there were no incidents of police stupidity while there was a Democrat in the White House. If only we’d elected Kerry in 2004, this guy wouldn’t have been dumped out of his wheelchair.

Come on now… Huffpo commenters breaching Godwin’s law is hardly an OMG moment is it? Really?
I’ve become almost inured to being called a fascist SS pig by the left… I think it was the moment the right in the person of Pres. Bush and his administration and all the Amnesty proponents started calling me a racist pig… that pretty much overloaded my outrage squeedelysplooch to the point that short of waking up with McCain actually in my pants, I’m fairly incapable of OMG moments.

As I pointed out to a police officer friend of mine years ago in Fort Lauderdale, every employer has some, but not every incompetent employee is given a gun and a badge of authority. With greater authority comes greater responsibility, and greater accountability.
oldleprechaun on February 12, 2008 at 6:54 PM
Yeesh. I remember a time when I would have been shocked by this kind of abuse by cops.

Crap. How much competence do you gotta have to know you don’t dump paralyzed people out their chairs.
A man who was my professor, pastor, and friend is a quad. I have zero sympathy for any of those involved in this outragous and criminal act.
I don’t know if the one who called the paralyzed man a fake was kidding or not, but, dude, … !

Wow , did I just witness a black on white hate crime ? The officer who thought it was funny should have arrested her on the spot. I for one am glad he will be when he is punished right along with her. I still won’t hold my breath waiting for the hate crime prosecution, but that is about as close as you can get.

I wonder if the size of the check he is going to get is going to bankrupt the city? It should!
I don’t think I have ever seen anything so F up’d in my life.
It’s sad that the citizens of that city will end up paying for some idiots behavior.
lsutiger on February 12, 2008 at 7:54 PM
Bad cop, no doughnut. I’m thinking a blank check, key to the city and a siren for his new Knight Rideresque wheelchair. Some form of public humiliation for the officer would be nice too.
To you and other commenters pushing this tired tripe:
When was the last time Al Sharpton made news for injecting race where it was not relevant? Jesse Jackson? At what point do you idiots gain parity with Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson?
Every single day on this website and others, I read some barb about how “what if he was black” or “what if a white guy did that?” Many ignore the fact that there are many instances wherein racism is a factor. Also, there is a tendency to paint any minority as ready to seize upon race as a reason to bitch-and-moan. It’s an unfortunate and understandable backlash to the tiresome needling of retrograde race-baiters.
IMO there are more complaints now about racial double standards than there are about racism. Monitor as much media as you can for a week. Monitor HotAir comments for that same week. There’s no contest. You guys whine more than the original whiners.
I have never been ashamed to speak openly and honestly about race. I’ve stood my ground and called things as I’ve seen em all my life. As a black man, that has made me a target at times. But on the other hand I don’t have a ton of pent up racially-tinged aggression.
Since I don’t mince words with blacks, I won’t mince them with others. GET OVER IT! Try yoga or skydiving.
If you invoke race just because the people involved in a situation are of a different race than you, you are exactly like Al Sharpton or any other race-baiter.
This situation was perfectly awful without all of the “I’m not racist” birds chirping in unison. Somehow it’s always the people who “not racist” ones who find a way to inject race.
The thin veil of irony and sarcasm does not hide your true intent or frustration. Next time you invoke as a muted attack, remember this: Just because you say you’re not a racist, does not make it so. At some point, the attacks will graduate from passive-aggessive to just being aggressive. The acts will become second nature. Second nature despite your denials will reveal your true nature.

It was the guy’s own fault. He called the sheriff “dude”.
Tzetzes on February 12, 2008 at 8:22 PM
The funniest thing about this clip (if anything could be considered funny) are some of the comments posted at Huffington, where this video is hosted. Many commenters equate the police with “those Repugs, Bush-like justice, etc.”.
Clink on February 12, 2008 at 8:27 PM
They ought to do a reality show about that deputy trying to get another job.
“…and that’s why I’m not seeking a customer service position, ma’am.”
It is more than a little disturbing that there were no reports filed on this – though it’s possible that they were lying when they said this was the first they’d heard of it.
I wonder if any other surveillance videos are waiting to be delivered to the news station?
I’ll say one thing – I’m pretty much down on the press, but sometimes they do the right thing. It’s just that they need to do more good than harm, and they have a long way to go.

The officer probably should be criminally charged. A badge should not put her above the law.

But those aren’t police officers. Being a cop is so dangerous that we must allow them to assault quadraplegics whenever they become annoyed with them.

Somehow George Bush was responsible for this poor guy getting tossed from his wheelchair. This is evidence of obsession and dimentia on the part of the Huffpo commenters. Lets not drop down to their level here.
