He’s right — the Merida Initiative does sound just loony enough to qualify as a Paulnut fever dream. It isn’t.
You know whom this presents with a great political opportunity? Hint: Not Mitt Romney.

It is sad, really sad to think
weJorge wants to give 1.4 billion to stimulate Mexico’s economy but we can not get a fence built on the border.brtex on February 12, 2008 at 2:29 PM
Two comments not related to the substance of this audio piece:
1. I used to notice this with Howard Stern…they have so much time on the air so they just drag everything out. Three minutes to get about 30 seconds of info.
2. The powerful Ski Industry lobbied for 3 day weekends in the Winter? Is he nuts? What other cospiracies don’t I know about by not listening to Rush?
asc85 on February 12, 2008 at 2:31 PM
Way to stay on track there, Rush. What was he talking about again?
amkun on February 12, 2008 at 2:32 PM
Very Michael Savage-esque… shifting from topic to topic:
Malkin article tease, Lincoln reference, Washington reference, ski industry lobby 3-day weekend reference, global warming reference, and then the Malkin article quote (finally).
At least it’s getting some attention. :)

YAY for Michelle! 20 million listeners just got plugged at the same time. Good news for the MM stock.
ThackerAgency on February 12, 2008 at 2:39 PM
I work in the Ski Indusrty, American Ski Company spent millions lobbying for a national MLK weekend. Cost ‘em too, they didn’t have the money for improving mountain infrastructure. Guess it did improve condo sales tho.

I emailed the link and info to him yesterday after his show. I’m sure others did as well. Someone at RushBo.com reads the emails, I know. I’ve sent messages before and stuff has been mentioned.

Being on the interwebs and all, wasn’t it already world-wide?

When even Rush is paying attention, that whole concept about the NAU begins to create a small pang in the pit of my stomach.

Gracias Presidente Bush

I’m beginning to think we should have elected the nutjob Ron Paul.
With this, and what’s going on in Berkeley … I’m all in on a coup, if anyone wants to organize it.
Gregor on February 12, 2008 at 2:59 PM
It makes perfect sense to me. I live in a mad house that is CA. The kind of logic the proposal has makes sense when you live within the confines of a Blue state.
However, I’m afraid to re-evaluate this bill when I visit my parents who live in a Red State. My head will probably explode.
Weebork on February 12, 2008 at 3:02 PM
Perhaps it would be more appropriate to call it the Mierda initiative.
Mike Honcho on February 12, 2008 at 3:09 PM
Just what we need. Another bailout for Mexico. Was it his dad or Mr. Bill that gave them the first one?
Bigfoot on February 12, 2008 at 3:11 PM
Mierda… as in “mierda happens” !!!
stenwin77 on February 12, 2008 at 3:11 PM
Yup. We’re in deep, deep mierda.
Mike Honcho on February 12, 2008 at 3:18 PM
Wow. I missed this. Had to turn Rash Limbaugh off after an overdose of him talking about himself and attacking McCain while claiming he wasn’t attacking.
MrScribbler on February 12, 2008 at 3:22 PM
What? You mean Mexico doesn’t like illegals sneaking across their southern border?!
Ordinary1 on February 12, 2008 at 3:23 PM
I just emailed my congresscritter, Solomon Ortiz (d). I can’t WAIT to read his response!!
pullingmyhairout on February 12, 2008 at 3:39 PM
Savage was right about Bush again. Just a short time ago, he said Bush was a lame duck, but if you think he’s done with this country, then you’ve got another thing coming.
That is something only Savage does well. Rush’s Bush-bot chip kicked in; it was painful for him to even mention this latest stink.

Makes you think there’s something in the water in DC.
stonemeister on February 12, 2008 at 3:58 PM
There is. It’s called Cervesa.
Gregor on February 12, 2008 at 4:30 PM
Why isn’t this seen as good?
It’s making it harder for illegals by creating an additional hurdle.
Mexico’s southern border is narrower than ours. Mexcan labor is cheaper than ours and their security isn’t as human rights friendly as ours.
If this helps to keep more of them out, it’ll actually save us money. Wouldn’t it? Isn’t it cost effective if the illegals never reach our border?
I could see how you could be against it if thought Mexican officials are corrupt or
you think the illegal immigration from Central and South American is so miniscule, it’s a waste of time.
Marc01 on February 12, 2008 at 4:31 PM
Cerveza
Gregor on February 12, 2008 at 4:33 PM
Nap time.
Gregor on February 12, 2008 at 4:34 PM
I’d say that this isn’t seen as any good, because of your question, i.e. that the Mexican officials ARE corrupto, y mucho!
Why not spend 2/3 of that amount of money on our Southern border, while giving Mexico 1/3, but ONLY, if and when our own border fence is built?
I mean, why not give us Americans the first line of defense, since it’s our money?
localmalcontent on February 12, 2008 at 4:47 PM
I love it. Allah STILL can’t pass up a chance to insult Ron Paul and/or his supporters, even when it’s over an issue where Alah, Michelle, and Rush would all agree with Ron Paul about.
HotAir has become like a horrifying traffic accident: something I know I should just drive past and not look at.
Drum on February 12, 2008 at 5:01 PM
Was great to here Rush plugging MM. One thing Rush said about the D’s & R’s working together in Rhode Island was wrong. The Republican Governor is being run through the wringer by the Democrat Socialists here in RI.
Wade on February 12, 2008 at 5:11 PM
Bingo!
sanantonian on February 12, 2008 at 5:13 PM
“Why isn’t this seen as good?”
a. The border being defended is just a bit south to protect U.S. sovereignty.
b. The majority of illegal immigrants reside to the north of the Mexico/Central American border, rendering this initiative ineffective.

Could this lead up to Michelle sitting in for Rush when he is out playing golf? We can hope.
Wade on February 12, 2008 at 6:41 PM
Doesn’t really sound like you do. Has it occurred to you that he might be doing it to annoy people like you, and that the more you complain about it, the more he enjoys it? (I certainly do.) Just a theory.
Jim Treacher on February 12, 2008 at 6:44 PM
That was a great post from Michelle. Keeping their feet to the fire on the illegal immigration front. Well done. And this wasn’t the first time el Rushbo has plugged Michelle or Hot Air. He knows to check in every day, just like the rest of us. Thanks for the replay Bryan.

Dude. Where am I going to get my tacos al pastor?
fourstringfuror on February 12, 2008 at 7:55 PM
Ron Paul was right, and the conservatives mocked him. Gee, wonder what else he will be proven right about?
fossten on February 13, 2008 at 8:12 AM
The Race War, probably.
