Video: Team Hillary produces the worst political ad ever

posted at 4:40 pm on February 11, 2008 by Bryan

It’s set up as a Vh-1 Behind the Music documentary but comes off as a very lame uber pander to the vaunted youth vote based on some cool version of Hillary that doesn’t exist. Except that cool Hillary isn’t actually cool at all. The ad has Bizzarro Hillary, juke box hero of the age, leaving a band she founded with kids who are younger than her daughter to run for president. And she leaves the band at the very top of its game, to run for president so she can make college more affordable, or something. What cool person does that?

This ad came out on January 31, so it wasn’t produced by Team Hillary’s current leadership. Fwiw.

BadgerHawk on February 11, 2008 at 4:47 PM

The goggles! They do nothing!

Chuck Schick on February 11, 2008 at 4:47 PM

It is really, really, sad that this is how a major Politician for the most important job in the world is forced to campaign. What does this ad have to do with policy exactly?

jp on February 11, 2008 at 4:47 PM

What’s that word?

Oh yeah: lame.

yo on February 11, 2008 at 4:48 PM

Maybe Hill & Huck should get together & form a band?! They could call it “Huck & Jive”.

There was panic in her camp. “Obama is a rock star! Obama is a rock star! What are we gonna do???”

Then someone had this bright idea …

laelaps on February 11, 2008 at 4:48 PM

A documentary on obesity is more entertaining.

OMG! That is probably exactly what happened! I almost feel sorry for her. Did I say that?

kcd on February 11, 2008 at 4:50 PM

I actually experienced some pain when watching this.

Hillary can sob on my shoulder – it’s all over.

LimeyGeek on February 11, 2008 at 4:54 PM

A truly lame attempt to go after the young vote. At least she wasn’t wearing sandals and flowers in her hair. Oh no, now that song is going to be in my head all night!!noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

jerrytbg on February 11, 2008 at 4:54 PM

kcd on February 11, 2008 at 4:59 PM

How much you wanna bet that non of those kids in the video aren’t even registered to vote.

Kini on February 11, 2008 at 4:59 PM

Wow. Are you sure this wasn’t Patti Doyle’s last act as campaign manager? Maybe she was trying to get some revenge. It’s pandermonium! ©

Doesn’t matter… anyone who would supporter Hillary is retarded anyway, so pandering (like dishonesty and insane policies) doesn’t bother them in the least.

RightWinged on February 11, 2008 at 5:00 PM

The shot with a guitar on her back is the most ridiculous thing I have seen this side of Joe Biden’s wigpiece. I am actually sad for her.

The Race Card on February 11, 2008 at 5:01 PM

I loved the three word slogans at the end. So….messiahesque.

malan89 on February 11, 2008 at 5:02 PM

This vid highlights EXACTLY why Barack’s trouncing her of late.

I don’t agree with Obama’s politics or his policies but he instinctively understands how to CONNECT with people and fire ‘em up.

She just has a bunch of sycophants who TELL her she does when she really has no clue that all she does is turn most people off. Except for liberal feminazis and/or old hippies.

Barack RESONATES with young people.

Hitlery simply reaches out and misses.

The Pepsi generation has lost it’s fizz. And Hillary has been taught to cackle in perfect harmony.

Whatever happened to just having a conversation?

Kini on February 11, 2008 at 5:05 PM

Oh, yeah. She appears to connect with Latinos for some odd reason I can’t figure out.

The only thing that seems to make logical sense to me is the oft-quoted animosity between the Latino and African-American communities. Hate to say it but it’s the only good reason I can think of why the Latinos seem to vote for her and not for him. Otherise, I just can’t figure it.

Shirotayama on February 11, 2008 at 5:05 PM

Musta been all that rhetoric about Obama being the party’s new Rock Star.

scottm on February 11, 2008 at 5:07 PM

Speaking of campaign ads, I’m tracking a flight and there’re BO ads EVERYWHERE, with every refresh.

It’s a little much.

Dems just never learn.

saiga on February 11, 2008 at 5:12 PM

Obama is cool.

McCain doesn’t give a rat’s ass about being cool, which makes him cool.

Hillary desperately wants to be cool.

Damian P. on February 11, 2008 at 5:16 PM

I couldn’t be more opposed to Hillary and even I’m ashamed of this ad. How did this abomination even happen?

Beatnik Joe on February 11, 2008 at 5:18 PM

Uh oh. See the new HotAir thread with the Obama HQ in…Houston, was it???…with the big*ss poster of none other than Che Guevara on it?

That’s liable to wreck Obama’s freight train FAST.

Shirotayama on February 11, 2008 at 5:20 PM

Uh, maybe it’s meant as satire…?

Obama is cool.

Damian P. on February 11, 2008 at 5:16 PM

Yeah, when I was a kid I always thought drug dealers were the coolest!

McCain doesn’t give a rat’s ass about being cool, which makes him cool.

Damian P. on February 11, 2008 at 5:16 PM

Yeah, when I was a kid I thought being a rebel was cool.

Being cool…doesn’t make you right.

Mallard T. Drake on February 11, 2008 at 5:59 PM

For those in Seattle who remember, this would have been at the top of the Lame List, complete with the head banging. Lame Lame Lame Lame.

Mallard T. Drake on February 11, 2008 at 6:01 PM

I think there are a good number of people here who wish that instead of quitting a band to run for President, Hillary Clinton would quit running for President and join a band…

radjah shelduck on February 11, 2008 at 6:02 PM

She should have done some kind of gangsta rap video where she talks about poppin caps in Vince Foster, killin rednecks in Texas, and stackin benjis in illicit land deals.

LevStrauss on February 11, 2008 at 6:02 PM

This is the smartest woman in the world?

The one we’ve all been scared of for all these years?

I had to watch that twice, I just couldn’t believe it was real. How could she possibly think that people are so stupid to fall for this kind of crap?

People that think she still has a chance in this race are now officially insane. Even if she cheats, McCain will win.

It’s all over but the melting…

Dorvillian on February 11, 2008 at 6:05 PM

Rrrrriiight! Hillary’s a rock star like Helen Thomas is a rock star. How inane can it get.

No wonder her campaign’s a loser.

petefrt on February 11, 2008 at 6:14 PM

Funny thing about this? Put Obama in the piece rather than Hillary…… he’d wind up looking like an even worse tool! Obama is cool? I most assuredly don’t want whatever you’re smoking…..

MNDavenotPC on February 11, 2008 at 6:18 PM

Oh, yeah. She appears to connect with Latinos for some odd reason I can’t figure out.

Might have something to do with Hillary telling them that there’s no such thing as an “illegal.”

AZCoyote on February 11, 2008 at 6:19 PM

Slow, but I thought it was an OK ad.

WoosterOh on February 11, 2008 at 6:27 PM

Being cool…doesn’t make you right.

mksmithwriter on February 11, 2008 at 5:21 PM

Doesn’t seem to stop you from trying…

Why call Obama a drug dealer without any supporting evidence? Such stupid statements make Republicans easy targets for lampooning.

I predict it will be precisely that type of venom with which we will poison ourselves and rule out White House and Congressional wins for the next 8-12 years.

If you’re going to be a tool, be the right one for the job.

The Race Card on February 11, 2008 at 6:47 PM

This hurts but, here goes…. I thought it was a funny ad. It was different. You can’t talk at that particular demographic. This is the ADD generation and you have to catch their attention. The ad did that.

I’m going to run it by my teenagers and see what they think. They’re not shy about calling things “gay”.

sheesh on February 11, 2008 at 8:06 PM

The new bumper sticker:

SEX, DRUGS & PANTSUITS!

Texas Rainmaker on February 11, 2008 at 8:28 PM

Hillary is the biggest nerd I’ve ever seen, nothing could possibly ever make her cool.

mattyj86 on February 11, 2008 at 11:14 PM

Hillary will crush your hopes and dreams. She will quit you! (At least that is what I got from the add)

timpstewart on February 11, 2008 at 11:58 PM

It’s really sad that crap like this is supposed to appeal to my demographic.

I’m going to run it by my teenagers and see what they think. They’re not shy about calling things “gay”.

sheesh on February 11, 2008 at 8:06 PM

Yeah, it’s totally gay.

How about instead of “making college affordable”, we make public schools teach?

Ok, my 18 yr old called Hillary a poser(sp?). She said the commercial was pathetic. My 16 yr old boy, true to form, said the commercial was “gay”. I guess I was wrong in my earlier assessment because this commercial really annoyed them. Shows you what I know.
