I’m also a fan of lifetime torture for these guys. Call me sadistic, but the satisfaction that they don’t have an “out” is my catalyst. The death penalty is like a “Get Out of Jail Free” card to them.

Funny you should use the term “lifetime” torture because I think making them watch lifetime television for the rest of their natural lives would be far more painful than the chair!

So what? That’s the same argument as “We can’t invade Iraq, because that will just increase the number of Jihadis.”

Um… no, totally different things. The terrorists charged are completely under U.S control at Camp Delta. The trials will be military tribunals with US military officers presiding. The terrorists get the rights afforded military members (slightly different than civilian trials). Invading Iraq involved injecting ourselves in a sovereign nation.

This is merely giving lip service to human rights for the terrorists rights before we kill them (the internationalist view). Might be the right thing to do but could create long-term problems better solved by simply warehousing the terrorists for the rest of their lives. I’m not against the death penalty as a principle but simply saying I think that, in this case, it creates more problems than it solves.

Maybe it’s desperation instead? Of course the MSM will never print that idea even if it collectively has the mental wattage to consider it.

My gut is that maybe these jokers/enemy combatants might need to be ’shot while trying to escape’. That would solve a lot of problems. But we Americans aren’t about that, unlike our enemy. And I’m comfortable with that.

Too bad for us the Dems/liberals/socialists/Rosies/Obamas/Clintons/McCains refuse to grasp the same hold.

I don’t agree with that analogy. Increasing jihadis is not my concern, nor do I care.

I think that when a person props up martyrdom as honorable, we should do our best to make sure that their wishes are not followed through.
We have specific persons that will be propped up as martyrs and I don’t want to give that satisfaction to the jihads. It would be a moral victory (I know, oxymoron)for them.

I am leaning this way as well. The feel good factor notwithstanding, the death penalty will bring little justice and may be a forgotten memory real quickly (I also thought Saddam Hussein left this world too quickly without suffering as long as he should have).

Let them die a less memorable death of old age devoid of freedom or any contact with any friends and family. Let them serve solitary confinement; anything but death.

Death is too good for them. Terrorist don’t fear death. They abhor western control, and what better punishment then to be incarcerated by the United States.

So what? That’s the same argument as “We can’t invade Iraq, because that will just increase the number of Jihadis.” I would, however, like to see them executed by firinq squad and have it leak out after the fact that the bullets had been dipped in pig’s blood. That might give a few potential martyrs pause. Better yet, ship their bodies back to their home countries with a pig’s carcass in the body bag with them. I’m sure many of America’s pork producers would be happy to supply a carcass or two.

These death penalty abolitionists won’t need very much encouragement. If anyone here has the time, I would urge you to show your support of terrorists by sending them emails or even letters arguing that the terrorists should not be executed. And though we are dealing with Italians, it’s ok to write them in English. They’ll be happy to get some anti-death penalty letters from Americans.
