Planned Parenthood: Fear the Maverick
posted at 4:02 pm on February 11, 2008 by Allahpundit
Airing in Potomac, just in time for the primaries. The CW is that it’ll backfire by shoring up support for McCain among jittery social cons who are taking a SECOND LOOK AT HUCKABEE! More so than alienating the liberals McCain depends upon to give him the edge, though? A quick tour of the exit polls in South Carolina, Florida, and Missouri, three states where he and Huck were neck and neck, shows him winning big with the pro-choice crowd and Huckabee winning big with pro-life. With an open primary tomorrow and McCain competing with Obama to attract independents, what’s more likely? That abortion opponents will ignore weeks of rhetoric from talk radio about Maverick being a closet liberal and choose him over Huck on the strength of the PP ad, or that independents will say screw it and vote for the Messiah?
No worries. The curmudgeonly 71-year-old superhawk’s going to clean up those purple states against the young, dynamic avatar of Hope and Change.

Obama isn’t a moderate but the moderates in this country don’t know that yet. McCain’s job is to let them know.

This race is like choosing between jimmy carter and ted kennedy.
peacenprosperity on February 11, 2008 at 4:16 PM
I have NEVER heard a person (Obama) talk so much and say nothing! Platitudes. That is all he offers.
kcd on February 11, 2008 at 4:16 PM
Isn’t that nice of PPAC to air ads for John McCain! Hmmmm, second look at McCain. I as going to vote for him anyway, the HilObamaBeast is detestable to me, but the fact that the Planned Parenthood Action Committee actually rated McCain 0% means he is perfect as far as pro-life goes. Maybe I’ll actually start to like him before I go vote.
JustTruth101 on February 11, 2008 at 4:17 PM
And the American electorate sucks them right up. Sad, isn’t it?

Young people don’t vote. Old people do. I know it feels like doom to have Obama go up against McCain, but generally it’s the person with the most electors, not the necessarily the most inspiring, who wins.

A SECOND LOOK AT VOTING FOR ANAL WARTS
natesnake on February 11, 2008 at 4:20 PM
It really is sad. It just shows how desperate people are for leadership. Any Obama that comes along and can preach hope, change and a better America (even though he don’t explain how he will accomplish it) gets their vote. : (
kcd on February 11, 2008 at 4:21 PM
LOL!!
kcd on February 11, 2008 at 4:22 PM
All kidding aside, did anyone watch 60 Minutes’ interview with Obama last night? They guy is calm as a cucumber but as stated above, speaks only in platitudes. He’s nice enough, but not presidential material.
Also, I don’t care for his clap and point routine. Anyone else notice that? When parting someone, he points at them as they walk away. What is that?
It annoys me. I don’t know why. It just does.
natesnake on February 11, 2008 at 4:24 PM
Does James Dobson approve this ad?
jp on February 11, 2008 at 4:24 PM
Wow, that’s a hella dumb commercial by PP. Can you say “handed to McCain”?
Vizzini on February 11, 2008 at 4:24 PM
OK guys, the goal of the candidates in the General Election is to make you feel good about your country, your future, and them. Who is the best candidate running to do that right now?
bnelson44 on February 11, 2008 at 4:28 PM
OT: Veep Watch.
If it is McCain, his best choice might be Colin Powell. Talk about a home run, grand slam, walk-off, tape measure shot.
indythinker on February 11, 2008 at 4:30 PM
Why, yes, he’s “trailing Barack Obama by only 44% to 47%,” and leading “Clinton by 47% to 45%.”
Whoop! Go John, go!
Pimp(oops) Pump it out!Nichevo on February 11, 2008 at 4:32 PM
BAD IDEA. At least as far as conservatives are concerned. Colin Powell is not exactly conservative. He is in agreement that Gitmo should be closed, the terrorists should go into American courts,be given lawyers, etc. And many more liberal views. I for one, would be fit to be tied.
kcd on February 11, 2008 at 4:34 PM
Seriously folks. If you really won’t vote for McCain, could you explain why an 83 out of 100 lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union is just not good enough for you? For comparison’s sake, Hillary’s lifetime ACU rating is 9 out of 100. If Obama’s rating is north of Hillary’s I would be shocked. Is it just that McCain doesn’t vote every time according to the fax blast out of RNC Headquarters? Is it because he’s not waving a Bible around? What is the reason why you don’t like him?
indythinker on February 11, 2008 at 4:35 PM
I guess my comment on this was too Kos to have posted.
Let me just say that McCain’s antiabortion stance is to be praised.
Drum on February 11, 2008 at 4:36 PM
McCain-Kennedy No Illegal Alien Left Behind Act (for starters).
AZCoyote on February 11, 2008 at 4:40 PM
Not so much. McCain receives a chunk of his support from Independents, especially when he’s competing with Huck. Independents can only vote in one party primary, so they may go to Obama instead. That could be an advantage for Huck.
amerpundit on February 11, 2008 at 4:43 PM
PP, “concerned for the health of women,” just so long as those women have made it out of the birth canal. Prior to that, yer on yer own.
Drum on February 11, 2008 at 4:46 PM
Gee, I wonder why they might want to do that? Nah, it’s just plain stupidity on their part. Can’t be anything other than that. Just the same as the NYT and LAT both endorsing McSpain. After all, he is unbeatable, right?
Misha I on February 11, 2008 at 4:51 PM
It doesn’t help that his supporters keep tossing around the number 83 as though that weren’t an average score of an increasingly liberal (heading towards the 50′s in 2006) voting record.
Lehosh on February 11, 2008 at 4:58 PM
Right. His “Liberal now” is catching up with his “conservative used to be”. He is 72, it could take a while or maybe not at this rate.
kcd on February 11, 2008 at 5:03 PM
OK, he is getting less conservative. Slightly. He’s still going to be significantly better than Shrill or Hussein, don’t you think? I don’t understand the philosophy of “In order to win, I’m first going to lose in order to get everyone really fired up.” That’s a liberal idea, like from Arthur Schlesinger or someone.
indythinker on February 11, 2008 at 5:08 PM
Seriously folks. If you really won’t vote for McCain, could you explain why an 83 out of 100 lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union is just not good enough for you? […] What is the reason why you don’t like him?
indythinker on February 11, 2008 at 4:35 PM
Because he has the gaul to tell you what he really feels, as opposed to the traditional candidates who lies to your face and makes you at least feel good.
THE CHOSEN ONE on February 11, 2008 at 5:09 PM
What’s funny is the trend of McCain’s voting record. If you look at this chart from National Journal, it’s interesting to note when McCain’s “conservativism” peaked and began going downhill. His highest rating was in 1994 and began sinking from there.
The fact that he started turning left just as the Republican Revolution took over is so strange. Is he just trying to be contrarian or what?
Lehosh on February 11, 2008 at 5:10 PM
For the record, Barack Hussein Obama reminds me of someone with his arrogance, preening, madness, fantasies, transparently mawkish appeals to emotion, self-righteousness, mania, personality cult and bigotry and scapegoating (of conservatives). Frankly, he reminds me of a young Hitler, and also of al-Sadr in Iraq. Of course this would put Olbermann in the role of a Goebbels. If we allow Hussein to become President, it would be like voting Hitler in after the beer hall putsch. We might be fighting the Obama menace and the accompanying mass delusion for decades. Remember that some Jews were for Hitler in the beginning because they thought he wasn’t serious. I would like to think the American people will snap out of their hypnosis, but it is not assured. We need to shipwreck this guy’s political career immediately. If that means supporting John McCain, OK, good, no problem.
indythinker on February 11, 2008 at 5:14 PM
Yeah, Obama scares me worse than Hillary! Check out the HA topics.
kcd on February 11, 2008 at 5:19 PM
Regardless of what he says or promises, with McCain, the best SCOTUS nominee we could possibly expect would be another Anthony Kennedy. Meanwhile, from The Enabler or Hussein, we would get another Souter/Breyer clone-bot, and probably a young one who would be on the bench for the next 50 yrs, thus keeping Roe effectively carved in stone.

Allah,
When Huckabee wins the general election in November, will you admit that God had a hand in it?
ITookTheRedPill on February 11, 2008 at 6:05 PM
To answer my own question:
No, Allah won’t. All he will say is that those who have faith in God had a hand in it.
To which I reply that faith is the evidence of things not seen (God).
ITookTheRedPill on February 11, 2008 at 6:09 PM
ITookTheRedPill, I’m a Christian too, but…dude. What are you gonna think about God when Huckabee finally realizes he lost this thing last week?. Do you really believe God has endorsed Mike Huckabee? For the record, if Huckabee were to somehow be our next President, I would admit that God had a hand in it. There could be no other explanation.
As for McCain, I was hoping we’d have a chance to get him out of that Senate seat in Arizona, this just wasn’t what I had in mind.

I think McCain has a celebrity-like image to protect. And that is “The Guy Who Isn’t Afraid to Go Against the Flow”. At least that’s the media’s view of him. My view of him, however, is more of a “black sheep” analogy. I think he just likes sticking out from the Republican field because it keeps his name in the papers. It’s not a new observation, plenty of people have made it. He just figured out that by bashing fellow Republicans, he got lots of praise in the MSM. I’m sure he just grew to like getting praise from somewhere, and keep doing what produced those results.
pecan pie on February 11, 2008 at 6:29 PM
A 0% rating from Planned Parenthood? The lowest rating in the Senate?
My respect for McCain just inched up a little.
OneGyT on February 11, 2008 at 6:44 PM
Fixed.
That’s what it’s come to. You can have your choice in a nice, tight coil or as a mess in the bowl. You decide. Either way, it stinks.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on February 11, 2008 at 7:10 PM
Mine too. Anyone PP loathes and fears so much can’t be all bad.
inviolet on February 11, 2008 at 8:42 PM
I think Lehosh is trying to be contrarian.
The American Conservative Union, acuratings.org, says McCain’s lifetime rating is 82.3%. Yes, he has slid down to the upper 50s & low 60s for the last few years, but it’s much better than Obama’s 8.0% or Hillary’s 9.0% lifetime ratings, don’t you think?
jgapinoy on February 11, 2008 at 9:05 PM
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Premeditated Murder (AKA Planned Parenthood) hates McCain.
jgapinoy on February 11, 2008 at 9:06 PM
I am a former FredHead with no candidate in this race now, although I will not vote for Huckabee.
I am voting for Hillary on Tuesday in VA so that the Republican party has a chance of winning in November.
American-Infidels.com on February 11, 2008 at 9:59 PM
McCain himself should be running that ad. That’s the first thing I’ve heard that has made me want to vote for him.
Theophile on February 12, 2008 at 12:49 AM
All McCain needs to say is:
“I want to make this a country where Life is honored and no ever woman feels pressured into abandoning Hope, because a child is God’s way of saying ‘Tomorrow matters’. And that’s one thing I HOPE we never CHANGE about America.”

I was for Giuliani. Then Romney. Now, I’m thinking of voting for Huckabee solely to force McCain to fight for it at the convention. I guess I’ll decide when I get into the booth.
