Video: The obligatory “Shuster apologizes to Chelsea” clip

posted at 7:42 pm on February 8, 2008 by Allahpundit

“Pimped out”: Unconscious yet purposeful choice of words keyed to Chelsea’s gender? Or innocent choice of a mainstreamed euphemism that was thoughtlessly applied to a female?

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The left knows.

He did not “note the affection”, or if he did I sure missed it.

He is a pathetic reporter, a trite commentator, and shows little ability beyond as a hatchet-man.

I just love watching the left eat their own. Perhaps we should send them some MSG to go along with it?

I’m not a fan of her parents, but I am a fan of Chelsea Clinton. She has class and dignity. David Shuster knew what he was saying. It reflects very badly on his character. For the good of our country, I hope David Shuster is fired, and then he never gets another job in journalism or politics and we never hear from him again.

Nothing will happen to this guy.
Can you imagine if he had said this about Jenna Bush?

This is funny. To bad Hillary wasn’t so upset when “Monica’s Boyfriend” aka Bill, pimped on girls (for real) who were YOUNGER than Chelsea is now. Can you say Hypocrites R Us?

TOPV on February 8, 2008 at 8:02 PM

I believe this apology is what got him a suspension. Clintonistas did not think it was good enough. BTW, how many suspensions do you get before you are banned?

d1carter on February 8, 2008 at 8:08 PM

This was just like his last apology … a non-apology with a political messaged mixed in. The truth is that this guy Shuster is just not smart enough to speak off-the-cuff.

darkegop on February 8, 2008 at 8:08 PM

Shuster … “It was inappropriate”.

Sound familiar Bill?

The Oprah fans will fall in line.

Just how many states vote this weekend?

Janna on February 8, 2008 at 8:17 PM

She has class and dignity.

I don’t know – there’s something kind of creepy about a supposedly apolitical woman applying that kind of pressure to influential people in order to influence their decisions in a nominating process.

Anyway, let’s go back in time about a decade so we can tie together today’s two multi-post stories into one, in which everyone’s impression of Hillary will get reinforced: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/1997/11/26/MN59631.DTL

calbear on February 8, 2008 at 8:24 PM

Please…they can’t have it both ways. Either the kid is not gonna be in the public eye or she is fair game by speaking out on her mother’s behalf. Which is it? So Shuster said something stupid…not the first time, won’t be the last. This phony outrage victim card is getting old. If this was one of the Bush kids, they’d be hurting themselves trying to pat him on the back.

Big Daddy Cool on February 8, 2008 at 8:37 PM

Chelsea I remember Monica when she was your age….Love your dad

jed58 on February 8, 2008 at 8:40 PM

I can’t stand Shuster, but this story is a manufactured indignation.

Indignation is indignant.

Entelechy on February 8, 2008 at 8:40 PM

What makes this so satisfying is that he is being judged and suspended by his own standards. What’s happening to him is what he and his comrades have made their careers doing to the Right. I love it when chickens come home to roost.

TheBigOldDog on February 8, 2008 at 8:41 PM

Entelechy on February 8, 2008 at 8:40 PM

Shuster’s whole career is built on manufactured indignation on behalf of his overlords. That’s what makes this so satisfying for me. Karma baby! Karma!

TheBigOldDog on February 8, 2008 at 8:43 PM

Will he and Chrissie Matthews now have a testical free show together?

jed58 on February 8, 2008 at 8:54 PM

So, “pimping” is annappropriate due to gender? Thank goodness he didn’t say “whoring” or called her a “straight haired ho”

JayHaw Phrenzie on February 8, 2008 at 8:54 PM

The truth is that this guy Shuster is just not smart enough to speak off-the-cuff.

Heh, he has no trouble babbling, I think you mean ‘intelligently’.

That’s what makes this so satisfying for me. Karma baby! Karma!

Indeed. And make no mistake even if he had chosen a different word then ‘pimping’ he is attempting to frame Chelsea’s involvement as one motivated not by her own love and support of her mother, but rather as her mother using her without regard to her own wishes coldly for profit. It’s classless no matter what language.

He is by no means a hard-news guy. He is constantly trying to frame the perspective of the news by his interjection of his opinion. That he should have twice now gone beyond the bounds of what MSNBC allows is excellent. Remember this tool as the ‘”I’m confident” that Fitzgerald will hand down 22 indictments.’ Confidence isn’t the same thing as hope, Shuster.

Spirit of 1776 on February 8, 2008 at 9:00 PM

Good L-rd! He offended the Royal Family of the MSM! Lese majeste, anyone?

Meanwhile, their boy Olby continues his hysterical calling everybody who disagrees with him “Nazis” with no consequences at all.

Hypocrites, much?

Burn the MSM down and piss in the ashes.

Misha I on February 8, 2008 at 9:06 PM

Olberman says worse about the President nightly. He better hope he doesn’t run into Barbara Bush in a dark alley.

Shuster’s a jerk. We’ve always known it. Clinton’s are hinting MSNBC is pro Obama. Kinda fun to watch the shoe on the other foot.

Ordinary1 on February 8, 2008 at 9:07 PM

I keep thinking of Chelsea as still being a kid, but one of the news items about her said she was 27. Guess she’s all grown up now. I think that’s older than Monica was . . .

TX Mom on February 8, 2008 at 9:13 PM

He better hope he doesn’t run into Barbara Bush in a dark alley.

Heh. She could take him.

TX Mom on February 8, 2008 at 9:13 PM

And the festering of emplosion leading up to the DNC Convention continues one apology after another, the chain reaction is getting fun to watch!

Affection that we have for her??? Have you seen a picture of her? Good luck pimping that out.

oakpack on February 8, 2008 at 10:31 PM

An unfortunate choice of words, to be sure, but now Hillary is indeed pimping out her daughter as a tool in her faux maternal outrage. It’s simply nauseating. Chelsea has joined the big leagues as a POLITICAL MOUTH PIECE for her mama who wants to be President of the United States. It comes with the territory.

Rational Thought on February 8, 2008 at 11:08 PM

Sniveling, bed-wetting liberal douche.

Jaibones on February 8, 2008 at 11:30 PM

I don’t get it.

They are, in fact, pimping out their daughter. It’s a term that’s now part of the common vernacular, with no necessarily sexual or gender based connotation. He was factually describing exactly what the Clintons are doing: cynically using her in a ploy to gain votes. Pimping her out to the youth vote (who won’t vote anyway).

Is it just because she’s female? If he’d use the same phrase about Romney’s sons, would no apology be necessary?

Scratch that. Of course not. You can’t offend Republicans. Media rule # 1.

Nevertheless, I don’t get it.

I have to go watch Pimp My Ride now.

Professor Blather on February 9, 2008 at 12:12 AM

Who watches MSNBC anyway? Couldn’t care less about this guy, or Chelsea.

bluestater on February 9, 2008 at 12:14 AM

Shuster and Herr Olberdouche routinely say worse things about conservatives. Where’s the apologies and suspensions for that?

p0s3r on February 9, 2008 at 12:47 AM

I don’t get it. When did Chelsea earn my respect and how did she do it?

I’m with Shuster on the original comment- You’ll work for mommy, show up at rallies to wave your and laugh in front of regular people (pretending as if you live in a normal family yourself), show up at sororities you weren’t even a member of to talk about your mommy, but you won’t take questions from even a grade schooler. Spells media whore to me.

labrat on February 9, 2008 at 1:47 AM

Satisfying to see this “reporter” being forced to apologize, what a weasel. Unfortunately, allows Hillary to play the victim again and no doubt she will get a boost. First it was Matthews being sexist now Shuster. Almost deliberately helping her. Vast left-wing conspitacy.

koolbrease on February 9, 2008 at 2:24 AM

This is what you get for speaking truth to power. All during the Billy Jeff presidency, Chelsea was “off limits.” However, the press could slice and dice Jenna and Barbara Bush nine ways to sundown… but hey, no problem. God forbid you should diss Her Royal Highness, Princess Chelsea. Hillary’s reaction betrays what her presidency would be like: off with your head if you dare to speak out against her or her kid. Hey Hillary: grow a spine or a pair of cajones, suck it up and move on. Save the whiny, teary-eyed, petulant bs for someone who believes it. You and your brat are not untouchable goddesses and this is not the Roman Empire.

Kalifornia Kafir on February 9, 2008 at 3:33 AM

Chelsea is so ugly even her Dad wouldn’t date her… again.

2Tru2Tru on February 9, 2008 at 3:49 AM

Each day we learn more about what it takes to offend the feminists and the Left in this country. They are offended not so much by deeds against women as by words (consider rape victims found guilty, women used as suicide bombers, female “circumcision”, Burkhas). They reserve their greatest sensitivity for those who are most like them (Western liberal elites, female, white, upper class, bi-coastal). Even if you fit the criteria to be an eligible victim, you must also be sure to have the correct perpetrator (conservative white male not interested in jihad against them). Heaven help you if any of the stars do not line up right or if the perpetrator is a champion of their cause! (Bill Clinton). What makes for true entertainment is when feminists are caught in their own hypocrisy and it becomes painfully obvious how evil they are. Not a peep about Bill’s pathological behavior, but outright indignation about an off-hand comment about his daughter. That’s rich! Not a word about the slaughter of women by jihad, but rage at a verbal slight by an innocuous reporter. That’s evil.

Professor Blather on February 9, 2008 at 12:12 AM

Megadittos!

What if a reporter had said this about a Bush daughter? Not a valid comparison. Bush twins aren’t being used by their parents as instruments in the political process (and they keep a low profile). Chelsea is a campaign operative.

I’m not familiar with this Shuster person, but if Hil really wanted to shelter the daughter from political fire, she wouldn’t be using her (’pimping her’) in her campaign. But then to use her and claim she is off-limits for attack? Well, that’s just more of the same ole Clinton bs… that they put out to have their cake and eat it too.

petefrt on February 9, 2008 at 10:54 AM

I cannot help laughing so hard I am ready to pee in my pants! Here we have the Clintonistas #1 Mainstream Media Cheerleader having one of their own dare to step on the Sacred Name of Chelsea and now he is paying the ultimate price for his unforgivable comment. Now you can bet that if someone like Madman Mathews or Olby-Spew made a comment like this and directed it towards one of Bush’s daughters, it would hardly make a ripple as far as PMSNBC is concerned. But so much as dare put Chelsea Clinton in a bad light for even a fraction of a second, it would be better if the person responsible had never been born. In other words, it’s the same old mainstream media hypocrisy.

pilamaye on February 9, 2008 at 12:13 PM

Remember when Chelsea told the kid reporter (a fifth-grader if I remember properly)that, “I don’t talk to reporters”?

The Clintons want to do things their way – be able to say and do anything they want, while at the same time stifling others.

If Chelsea is going to be an active part of the campaign, she and her parents should have a thick enough skin to tolerate other people’s free speach. Just like the Bush daughters tolerated the nasty things said about them in 2004, without President Bush stepping in to castrate any male that said something nasty about them.

Hillary has effectively castrated David Shuster.

Exactly right. Only problem is…who watched MSNBC? Aren’t their ratings at the bottom of the already sub-par cable news ratings barrel?

Question: Now that we have all established a new standard of “non-offensive journalism” what will Olbermann’s show consist of?
