They took a fun game (my husband was a Master Architect early on, I was a Droid Engineer), and ruined it. Except for Eve (which is massive and can be overwhelming), there are no good space MMOs. I keep praying for a Star Wars Galaxies miracle… *sigh*

I’ll pick a PC any day of the week over a console! My husband and I sit across from each other and can play without having to buy two special use units (consoles) hooked up to a TV that doesn’t run 1600×1200 @85hz. Great team playing TF2 that way. =)

Civilization, LoTRO, WoW, Crysis, UT, EVE, C&C… PCs and PC games ROCK.

(It’s nice to talk about a fun topic instead of a disappointing election season once in a while)!

Just because one becomes an alcoholic it doesn’t mean everyone else is an alcoholic.
So you failed at time management and couldn’t control your addiction. Don’t assume everyone else has your same weakness.

heh…Actually, I can’t believe people still play games like this on their computer. Just not the same.

Yeah. Its waaaaay better. You really can’t compare a closed gaming system like a console with an open gaming system like a PC. You can aim a lot better with a mouse/keyboard than with a gamepad. You don’t have to throw out all your older games when you upgrade. Plus, you’ll never hook up a Thrustamster Cougar to a wussy little game box. And like Merovign said there’s tons of extra add on content you can’t get with a closed gameconsole system. Lucas Arts has to show the PC gamers some love, cause they’re the ones who kept LA going.
The PC version will probably (I hope I hope I hope)come out a little later, they did that with either KOTOR or KOTOR 2. Plus MS did that with Halo 2 and rumor has it Halo 3. If MS is smart they’ll ask LA to make it only for Vista. The entire world will upgrade.

Yeah. High resolution, mods that extend the game, precise controls, configurability, and a tool that can be used for more than just one thing. Hard to imagine.

Oh, and you can hook your PC up to a 50″ TV if you really want to.

I guess if you play video games 60 hours a week, it’s worth having a tool that does only that. I like video games, but they’re not a “lifestyle” for me.

Besides, game controllers are IMO not best for most kinds of games. If you’ve ever seen people with keyboard and mouse go up against people with controllers you know what I mean.

Bah, if it isn’t an MMORPG it isn’t worth the time.

You realize that Bioware is working on a KOTOR MMO, right?

Damn, what to get, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed or saving up for a new iMac.

Guys, there are these things out there called women. Unplug your little consoles, shave, put on a clean shirt, loose the Star Wars lingo, and go out and get a few of them. Don’t worry there are plenty to go around. Besides, they are a little like video games in the sense that if you crash and burn with one (and you will), there is another one waiting (another “life” if you like). And scoring with one beats wacking Darth Vader any day of the week and twice on Sundays!

Besides, the best video game ever was ‘”Red Storm Rising” for the Commodore 64! Nothing can beat the thrill of pizza, Cheetos, and planting a few Harpoons right on the bridge of a Kirov class battlecruiser after evading a Russian SSN! Ah, graduate school! (Once the reaction is refluxing….what is there to do?)

Nothing like electronic violence to relieve some real-world stress, ya know?

I still say, you don’t get the same “experience” from playing on a PC. And for the record, my thumb has endured literally 15 hours straight (GTA: San Andreas) with no soreness.

Plus, my 17″ lcd monitor is no match for a 50″ HDTV.

I have been expecting this next level of physics and interaction from game engines for some time now.

That’s one thing about the PS3 that I like so much…it’s advanced capabilities are far ahead of any games we have now…but give it a couple of years. I think the X-Box is going to need to be upgraded, whereas the PS3 is good to go for probably 10 years down the road.

Why can’t they come out with a good smuggler game. (Personally I’m all about the starfighter combat)

I’m sure the game will rock, but I also sure that they are grossly exaggerating how cool the DMM and Euphoria will be. I’m sure that after the 2nd or 3rd time a Storm Trooper grabs one of his buddies, it will become predictable, if not frustrating.

Seems more of a concept game. The AI/Physics engines should be the icing, not the cake.

Bah, if it isn’t an MMORPG it isn’t worth the time. I’m looking forward to StarGate Worlds.

P.S. I’ll never forgive Lucas for selling SWG to Sony and I’ll never forgive Sony for what they did to it.

The video card of the X-Box is essentially outdated, but can still perform well enough. The 360 has 3 processors to handle all the various calculations needed for games. My only drawback to the Xbox is its lack of RAM, I think it only has 512MB. I should have had more and I think that would help with more complicated games.

In any event, the consoles are fine compared to desktops. I didn’t say they were better, but they compete fairly well.

I have been expecting this next level of physics and interaction from game engines for some time now. I doubt that despite the new features this game will allow you to perform, I highly doubt the physics behind it is anywhere close to being realistic. Perhaps in the next gen of consoles they’ll be able to do that.

So it’s this game and Rainbow 6: Las Vegas 2 that I await with anticipation.

Wow! Why bother living in reality? Virtual reality is so much better. Not only do the non-player characters act and behave like real people but you can have superhuman godlike powers.

Why, you could enjoy yourself so much in this false reality, you could even wet yourself and sit in your own pee for hours and still be in complete bliss.

And you would never need to expose yourself to real problems with society like hunger, persecution and genocide. And better yet, if my character dies, he can simply regenerate from a previously saved location. Then when I have finished a mission I can convince myself what a good gamer I am and how I actually accomplished something while the rest of the world is falling apart.

Holy. Crap. Characters reaching out? Albino rancors? I might almost forget about the depressing political conventions that should be coming this summer.

Sorry to pick on you Wineaholic but your comment demonstrates perfectly what I’m talking about.

Video games already have an enormous number of addicts that are trying to recover. Games like this will only escalate the problem. This has all the promises of a religious cult.

I’m just venting something that I have been thinking while I’ve aged with video games from Pong, Space Invaders, Zork, Castle Wolfenstein(the 80′s original), Ultima, Warcraft, Doom, Quake, Half-Life, Halo, etc.

I cannot count the numbers of hours I have wasted in entertaining myself with this medium.

I love this “argument.” Somehow watching movies, sports, etc. are perfectly acceptable hobbies for an adult to have, yet playing video games is stupid and evidence of “not having a life.” Playing card games, gambling, or hell, even board games like Monopoly are perfectly fine too.
So basically, videos and games are mature and acceptable, but not video games?
Makes so much sense.

I believe all of entertainment venues could be taken to extremes but the major difference is that you can finish most of them in under an hour or in a night. Video games can require days if not weeks to complete. Not to mention the online multiplayer options.

I think I’ve finally had enough pseudo-reality.

Hey now! Don’t drage me into any who is a nerd and who is not battles. My comment was a joke, although I did have numerous star wars figures in the late 70′s and early 80′s I outgrew them, especially after my little brother broke them all, it was a sad day when he stepped on my Millenium Falcon I can tell you. I have an XBOX 360, but only play it maybe once or twice a week. I enjoy video games but don’t have a lot of time to play. Right now I’m working my way through Mass Effect, this has been going on now for a Month and a half. So there!
