In defense of the Clintons, Bill gets a fortune every time he does a speaking engagement, doesn’t he?

Obama better start looking under his bed at night. The last people who asked the Clinton’s that are dead :-)

TOPV on February 7, 2008 at 10:39 PM

Pressed by reporters for his thoughts, Obama said “I don’t have enough money to drop $5 million on a campaign.”

No, but you do get to say at every debate, “I turned down lucrative jobs at prestigious law firms to work as a community organizer on the streets of Chicago.” There is an old cliche, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. The American people don’t deserve to know where she got her money from unless it is because of violation of law. Stop whining, BO.

Wait, what? I think I have a right to know who is financing politicians running for office. Its their choice to run. They should disclose where they get their money from. I think the citizens need to be informed if a candidate is given huge sums of money from say Exxon or maybe an anonymous Chinese donor. It speaks volumes as to what their policies will look like.

Obama is not making that complaint. He is speaking direct of her ability to finance her own campaign (her income). It’s pathetic. You of all people my friend, should appreciate the right of privacy.

Spirit of 1776 on February 7, 2008 at 11:06 PM

And, for her, there’s another sensitivity. Given that she is making the case that she is an independent career woman, dipping into a rich husband’s assets might undercut that image.

Nonetheless the Clintons have resisted frequent calls to open the library’s books or release their income tax returns.

Wolfson added: “When will Senator Obama release the complete details of his relationship with Tony Rezko?”

Heh, give it up. Inquiring minds want to know.

It may be important, but it’s certainly shouldn’t be necessary until she’s nominated. Before the nomination, it’s just a political party squabble.

Bill Clinton was the first Black President people. He gets his money the old fashioned way–also known as the Jesse Jackson Secret Money Making Method.

He accuses corporations of racism because the product names don’t include the letters: B L A C K. Then he fleeces said corporations for money.

And on that note–I’d like to say the following:

1. Kudos to Obama for facing down America’s biggest crime family, the Clintons.

2. Kudos to Obama for not playing the race card.

Montana on February 8, 2008 at 12:32 AM

The Clintons will stonewall any demands to disclose their sources of income because they have progressed far beyond hundred thousand dollar cattle future deals. That kind of transparency is only due from those not entitled.

But for fun, can we ask again to see the Clinton’s college transcripts? We’ve been told for decades now what geniuses they are, so why won’t they release their college grades to the press? Wouldn’t that prove how smart they are? Do you think they don’t want to release them because they would be too awesome for us to process?

There is a reason why the Clintons are opaque.

Tantor on February 8, 2008 at 12:42 AM

1. Frank Giustra

I agree to the right of privacy 100%, UNLESS you are running to become the leader of the free world. In that case, you, as the nominee, are subject to the scrutiny of those who elected you. Therefor, if you killed a hooker when drunk as a 20 something, or drunkenly killed another as a teen, or are being financed by a foreign country, it IS the people’s business to know.

This is for the most powerful position on the planet, they should disclose everything. Especially where they get their money and their health…in detail.

Look at the Trines..

The First Trine

The first trine consists of the Rat, Dragon, and Monkey. This is the only trine in which all three member signs are categorized as Power Signs (making up 50% of the Power category). These three signs are intense and powerful individuals, capable of great good or great evil. They make great leaders, but the three have different approaches. Rats and Dragons have a tendency to be quite dictatorial and autocratic, whilst Monkeys are more diplomatic. Frustrated when hampered, these signs are ruled by highly potent energy and unpredictability. They are intelligent, magnanimous, charismatic, charming, authoritative, confident, eloquent and artistic. They can also be tyrannical, bombastic, prejudiced, deceitful, imperious, ruthless, power-hungry, and megalomaniacal. The first Trine of the Rat, Dragon, and Monkey is a much more powerful, militaristic, and dominant trine when compared to the third Trine of the Tiger, Horse, and Dog (the other three Yang signs of the Zodiac).

———

The Fourth Trine

The fourth trine consists of the Rabbit, Sheep, and Pig. The quest for these three signs is the aesthetic and beautiful in life. Their calm nature gives them great leadership abilities. They are artistic, refined, intuitive, and well-mannered. These souls love the preliminaries in love, and are fine artists in their lovemaking. The Rabbit, Sheep and Pig have been bestowed with calmer natures than the other 9 signs. These three are compassionately aware, yet detached and resigned to their condition. They seek beauty and a sensitive lover. They are caring, unique, self-sacrificing, obliging, sensible, creative, emphatic, tactful, and prudent. They can also be naive, pedantic, insecure, cunning, indecisive, and pessimistic. The Trine of the Rabbit, Sheep, and Pig is a weaker, more timid, and vulnerable trine when compared to the second Trine of the Ox, Snake, and Rooster (the other 3 Yin signs of the Zodiac).

Who knows.. maybe I can can blame my sign, for my being Idealistic and impulsive? :}

BTW, Fred Thompson is a Horse

The Third Trine

The third trine consists of the Tiger, Horse, and Dog. These three signs seek a true lover, and are like-minded in their pursuit of humanitarian causes. Each is a gifted orator and excels at verbal communication. Relationships and personal contact are of highest priority and each one seeks their intimate soul mate. Idealistic and impulsive, the Tiger, Horse and Dog follow the beat of their own drummer. Defiant against injustice, these three signs wilt without large amounts of physical affection and loyal support for causes. They are productive, enthusiastic, independent, engaging, dynamic, and honourable. They can also be rash, rebellious, quarrelsome, hot-headed, reckless, anxious, moody, disagreeable, and stubborn. Although these three signs are loyal, they can be very protective when lied to. The three signs do not enjoy being told what to do, but will listen when it is a person they love or trust whole-heartedly. The Trine of the Tiger, Horse, and Dog is a much less potent, less militaristic, and less power-driven Trine than the Rat, Dragon, and Monkey Trine (the other 3 Yang signs of the Zodiac).

Yin and Yang are Opposites.

Yin, is the dark element: it is passive, dark, feminine, negative, downward-seeking, consuming and corresponds to the night.

Yang, is the bright element: it is active, light, masculine, positive, upward-seeking, producing and corresponds to the daytime.

Read an interview with her in which she talked about how she’d had to overcome all the obstacles placed in her path by our racist society — how people had tried to hold her back by telling her her scores were too low, etc. Made me wonder if she was an affirmative action admit. Wouldn’t that be ironic?

SoulGlo on February 7, 2008 at 10:54 PM

Hardly.

Bill just took in about 20 million dollars after leaving his board position of less than two years with a foreign company.

Bill has a close friend in Canada. He brokered a uranium deal for him in a foreign country…worth untold millions.

The Clinton Foundation brings in tens of millions of dollars from foreign companies.

Hillary took in untold millions from foreigners such as Norman Hsu for her campaign…many of them had no idea who she was, or that they had donated money to her.

Those examples are, of course, just the tip of the ice burg, and just the stuff I could think of off the top of my head.

SoulGlo on February 7, 2008 at 10:54 PM

When I read that all I could think of is how so many of us have worked hard for our money, and in the process we have contributed something tangible and productive to society.

The Clintons have spent a lifetime in government and as we all know the 300 lb bureaucracy in the room creates nothing and sucks the lifeblood out of the 9-5 hard working stiffs by taxing us at the federal, state and local levels.

Now in their later years, Hill and Bill have turned to writing books and Monica’s boyfriend has taken to given speeches for kazillions of dollars. Again, they contribute nothing concrete, substantial or beneficial to society. They write books about themselves and give speeches about how great they are.

It’s all about them. Always will be.

Yet they condemn Corporate America, who employ millions and manufacture a cornucopia of products, products that improve our quality of life, our ability to be self sufficient and successful in our own endeavors.

Compare that to what the Clintons contribute …… self-aggrandizing books and speeches. That and $3.00 will get you a gallon of gas.

but it’s crap like this that prevents good people from running for public office

Absolutely.

Notice that Hillary Clinton said: “I used MY own money”. She carefully avoided using the words “our money”. So she was stating that it was her personal funds, not hers and Bills. She supposedly didn’t earn any money during her eight years as first lady. She said she donated all her profits from “It Takes A Village”. She has been on the public payroll since 2001 and she sure didn’t make 5 million as a US Senator. So the only source of the 5 million would be her “memoir”. I remember that she did some fancy footwork to get everything signed before she took office as a Senator to avoid Senate disclosure and ethics rules. Reportedly she got several million as an advance and made royalties on top of it. But her federal and state taxes would have taken a huge amount of her book money. And then the fancy suburban house would have cost alot to purchase and there must be a mortgage to pay. And property taxes are huge. So I think it is fair to ask Hillary: Just how much money did you make from the memoir and did you use this money. If you didn’t use this money, what was your other source of income for the 5 million? Did nominal husband Bill contribute any money to the 5 million? If he did, will he want some influence and policy making role in exchange for the “loan”? Of course the MSM will have no interest in this issue. If it was Dick Cheney they would be all over him like white on rice.

I agree one hundred percent. How is it that two people who have spent most of their lives sucking at the teat of government managed to make that kind of money? I guess I went into the wrong businesss.

Shall we see what’s under the pantsuit?

This could be the answer to America’s obesity epidemic. If we just post whatever’s under the pantsuit on the fridge door, nobody will ever eat again!

Soon the money will flow when the Clintons can get back in charge and start passing weaponry secrets once more to the Chinese.

I’m really confused. I can’t figure out for the life of me why this is a fair question to ask ANYONE. Just because she’s running for POTUS does not give us the right to delve into her personal finances.

Ya’ll all need to get a grip. Spirit of 1776 is the only one who agrees with me, and frankly, I’m a bit shocked that so many people think it’s a-ok to invade her privacy.

She made the money. Big deal. If she wants to waste it on her campaign, let her.

pullingmyhairout on February 8, 2008 at 10:39 AM

I think any intrepid reporter would ask Hillary Clinton: Do you and Bill keep your finances separate from one another? If not, did some of Bill Clinton’s money get used for the five million dollar loan you made to the campaign? If Bill Clinton’s money was used to loan to your campaign, won’t that give Bill Clinton special influence in a Hillary Clinton administration? Hillary will be even more beholden to her nominal husband. How could anyone serve as vice president to Hillary when Bill Clinton already has a special role and even bankrolled her campaign?
The Clintons shenanigans know no bounds.

A Clinton lying…whodathunkit? In other news, ice is cold.

Most presidential candidates since Watergate have released their tax returns (but not all the spouses have). With the unusual situation of having a former president with international financial connections, IMO the best way to defuse the situation is to release both their returns. However, that assumes they have nothing to hide. Do they?
