Engles is saying how sincere Huckabee comes across….arrghhh

Connie on February 7, 2008 at 1:21 PM

My only complaint against Romney for this speech was: Where was this energy during the campaign? Where was this during the debates?

This was the sort of speech that we conservatives needed during the campaign to offset all the media McCain-o-philes and Washington Republican types like Fred Barnes.

Weebork on February 7, 2008 at 1:21 PM

There was a lot of truth in what Mitt had to say, even if the fire and passions came late. The difficulty and agony of the campaign brought this out. IMO, sometimes difficulties are needed to clarify your voice and to give you that passion and drive. This may be one of the first major bumps in his life that Mitt has ever had.

Reagan had many bumps along the road, and they came early. This was of tremendous value in bringing home to him what he believed and what the principles were to which he would rally.

It makes me sick that these fine folks who are applauding Mitt don’t know that THEY ARE ABOUT TO GIT KICKED IN THE NUTS BY HIM!

I think they only recognized the need when it was already too late. Early on, only Fred was running for conservatives. Everyone else was aiming more center.

The moderates think they have a victory today, but I think the truth is that this country is more polarized than ever before.

Fox News:

Mitt Romney told a conservative group briefly stunned silent by the news that he is dropping out of the Republican presidential race…..The news was surely a blow to the CPAC audience, which appeared largely unaware of the former Massachusetts governor’s plan in the minutes before his speech.

I didn’t hear silence…I heard calls of “NOOOO”, and “Run! Run! Run!”, and Booos at any mention of McCain.

Do you think they really didn’t know what was coming?

AverageJoe on February 7, 2008 at 1:29 PM

This afternoon should be wild when McCain is on.

No it wont. They will sit there & listen to him spout his BS, knowing it is BS and knowing his record, just like like those gullible fools that have voted for him.

I could not agree more! McCain and the liberal “republicans” are dividing this party.

Here is a great article about this issue.

Blindsided
Posted by: Jonathan Garthwaite at 1:08 PM
In the half-hour before Romney’s speech, his supporters were gearing at their booth area for their big moment as Romney was slated to speak at 12:30pm. They grabbed foam “mitts”, noisemakers and signs and marched down to the ballroom where they expected Mitt Romney to give a “fight to the convention” speech. Because security was so tight due to the Vice President’s speech this morning, most headed into ballroom early and listened to Laura Ingraham’s strong defense of conservative values in the face of a McCain nomination and introduction of Romney. They had no idea what they were really going to hear.

Blindsided.

Yup. KICKED IN THE NUTS.

Comeback might be impossible after that, too. Pretty unforgivable.

ihasurnominashun on February 7, 2008 at 1:37 PM

It is a good article, because it urges:

A conservative who connects with people on the things they care about, and explains why each can and should be addressed by a conservative answer, can win. But it’s the substance of the answer that matters, not the conservative label.

Maybe Limbaugh, Ingraham and their cohorts in the movement need to convince average Americans that conservatism cares about them. Conservatism exists to serve America, not the other way around.

We Conservatives are guilty of resting on our laurels and not teaching how conservative principle DO benefit people in their every day lives. McCain is the presumptive nominee due to a successful “rebranding” effort by the leftmost elites in the Republican party.

Even Rush realized too late that he has to “go back to the basics”; teaching conservatism bit by bit. Speaking for myself, as one who already hold those principles, I don’t blame the moderates for regarding us as arrogant and rigid. I don’t like their taunting, but would they be as strident if they didn’t feel so vindicated? There IS a strong strain of WE KNOW BETTER, GET WITH THE PROGRAM in our rhetoric.

We’ve just gotten a strong rebuke and we had better pay attention. Let’s quit blaming and start teaching.

Unlike you and the ignorant path of denial you are still entrenched in, I, as most real conservatives have been prepared for this since Mitt began running. We have, and still have every hope that Mitt is and will continue to be more able to unit the party tham McOpenBorders.

Now, we all have to decide which way we will go. When McLiar gets up there today and starts kissing the bases’ ass, I will decide if he is sincere or if he’s just giving us lip service again.

McLiar NEEDED Mitt to get behind him because Mitt holds the conservative base in his pocket. He bowed out in a way that keeps them on his side. Now it’s up to McShamnesty. If he eats enough of the crap he’s been dishing out for the last several years, we, as the real conservatives, will listen to him.

And if he does kiss our asses enough that we end up supporting his conservative policies, he still has to win in the general. We conservatives are the best and the heart and soul of this country, but we cannot deliver the country to him alone. McLiarLiarPantsOnFire still has huge issues that he has not been vetted on and the MSM has given him a pass.

He will be a flip flopper. A war monger. An amnesty shill. A old man. His mom is a bigot and his wife is a thief. He will be pushing for the type of justices that scare people. He will also be working with a dem controlled congress and that party is over too.

See, for us real conservatives, this is about values, not vanity like it is for McVanity and his whore moderate/liberal followers.

csdeven on February 7, 2008 at 2:11 PM

RushBaby on February 7, 2008 at 1:28 PM

I agree and I also am compelled to say something about the moderates, by a McCain victory may have won the battle but not the war. The war I am referring to is the fate of the Republican Party.

Weebork on February 7, 2008 at 2:14 PM

Arrogant and rigid? Conservative is conservative, and that’s it! You either are or you ain’t! To start ‘leaning’ left or becoming ‘moderate’ means giving in to the democraps. But so be it. the voters spoke. After all this is a democracy and they said they wanted McJerk. Okay. That’s what they got. He’s definitely not my guy. He definitely does not speak for me nor hold the same ideas or ideals I have. He’s a RINO. He supports the democraps on everything except maybe the Iraq war. So, in November, we get either ‘white trash Willy’ and his wife back in so he can set new records for bedding women in the White house, or a black racist muslim as President. McJerk will NEVER get the votes needed to be President. The last two generals showed it’s only going to take a few votes to tip the balance to the democraps. Hell, the Oracle lost and even had the majority of actual votes in 2000. The democraps are dancing in the streets as I write this, with the news of the last true conservative, Willard, dropping out. They are in, and they know it. We can try and put in as many conservs as Congressmen and Senators, and look to 2012 for another Ronnie. Look to future. The best we can hope for now is that the democraps hang themselves, ala Crter, and we bring in a new savior in ‘12. Keep your powder dry, you’re gonna need it!

countywolf on February 7, 2008 at 2:25 PM

Hey, CS, while I actually enjoy being entrenched on ‘my ignorant path of denial’, I can see nothing til ‘12 that entices. How about some names of potential saviors.

countywolf on February 7, 2008 at 2:32 PM

Armey giving McCain credit on earmark problem.

Connie on February 7, 2008 at 2:52 PM

Some cheers for McCain as Sen. Allen mentions why he is supporting him.

AverageJoe on February 7, 2008 at 3:13 PM

False start….

Mixed when crowd thought McCain was coming out, mostly cheers, but there were some jeers.

AverageJoe on February 7, 2008 at 3:15 PM

McCains is up….. Definately, Mostly Cheers.

AverageJoe on February 7, 2008 at 3:25 PM

McCain keeps touting the Bush tax cuts. I wonder if he remembers he voted against them. I just feel like he’s lying to me and deep down inside, he’s giggling about it.

Big Orange on February 7, 2008 at 3:44 PM

Let’s see….He called folks like me, that were concerned about the border invasion BIGOTS and RACISTS. Right out of the La Raza (THE RACE) handbook. And that race does not tolerate my race. So Johnny boy audios.
