<blockquote><strike>When</strike>IF McCain <strike>gets trounched</strike> loses in the general, who do you think will take the heat? The MSM, who made McCain the media darling? The left leaning Repubs? The Independents who voted for him in the Primaries? The right leaning dims? NONE of the above! The “blame” will lie with the conservative base and talk radio. Mark my words…

Must be a lot of laughter going on among the Dem strategists tonight as the Repub's pick a "gray, cranky old loser" and Dole retread to pit against their "historical and vigorous" candidates of "change".

They Repubs did their job for them.

An anti-evolutionist smarmy preacher and a cantankerous old warhorse.

Against the Great (<em>Half</em>) Black Hope and the First Woman President.

Is Bill Clinton running the GOP secretly?

<blockquote>Look, I understand people are concerned about the military if Obama and Hillary get in, but how is John McCain better? The fact that he wants to close Gitmo and give all the combatants there access to ACLU lawyers negates McCain wanting to stay the course in Iraq because you know what? Giving enemy prisoners Constitutional rights means our soldiers died so al-Qaeda ops (like those who used the handicapped women as unwilling suicide bombers), get rights.

The Haditha Marines were convicted by Murtha, Schumer, et al before they were even tried and McCain thinks NOTHING about giving bloodthirsty murderers rights on US soil and access to taxpayer money so they can whine and complain about their treatment and access to Korans.

How is McCain wanting to close Gitmo a help to our soldiers who risk their lives catching these guys? How does it help the US taxpayer who now will have to foot the bill for the combatants who don’t get the ACLU’s attention? Glad to have our blood and treasure spent that way.

McCain thinks nothing about letting terrorists like Shukrijuma cross our border, and the best he can say is “If they want their goddamn fence I’ll build it”, but then tells Russert he’d sign amnesty. Aside from killing us economically, and handing the Dems millions of more voters, how does this keep us safer? How is this a more conservative position than the Dems’?

</blockquote>Great points - should have been made everytime McCain made his hollow claims on fighting the jihad (does he even know what it means, with its entire scope?)

How is McCain wanting to close Gitmo a help to our soldiers who risk their lives catching these guys? How does it help the US taxpayer who now will have to foot the bill for the combatants who don't get the ACLU's attention? Glad to have our blood and treasure spent that way.

McCain thinks nothing about letting terrorists like Shukrijuma cross our border, and the best he can say is "If they want their goddamn fence I'll build it", but then tells Russert he'd sign amnesty. Aside from killing us economically, and handing the Dems millions of more voters, how does this keep us safer? How is this a more conservative position than the Dems'?

I don't think Clinton or Obama will pull out of Iraq; the surge is working and in one of the debates last year, neither would promise to do that within the first few years of their term. So if I'm right, then the only other thing that McCain has over a Dem is he is anti-earmark, supposedly.

Well, he doesn't play the earmark game, but he's had over 20 years to fix it. If he attacked earmarks with the ferocity with which he tried to push through amnesty, they (earmarks) would be a thing of the past. I don't believe it's going to happen.

So what is McCain's grand plan for his Presidency? What will he be known for? What will be his cause celebre? I know what Romney's would be - the economy/cutting taxes/trimming pork like he did in MA. If McCain finally gets the Golden Ticket that he felt he's been denied (he'd lose against the Dems anyway, but let's assume), what will he do?

The truth is the only legacy McCain will leave in his wake is a fractured party and a bunch of moderates complaining that we all should just swallow our principles and vote for him anyway because the letter after his name is different than Hillary and Obama's.

Same problem the GOP has always had; it doesn't fight enough for what's important.

I think the hullabaloo that Rush has stirred up is his way of uniting the country. By marginalizing the far right conservatives, many moderate republicans and democrats feel they can vote for McCain because they don't see him as a right wing zealot that hates their very existence. (their impression of righties, not mine) Advancing a conservative agenda will be alot easier with a moderate republican president than it would be with a socialist democrat. And with the country being so weary of partisan politics lately, a true conservative would sadly have no chance in the general. But nobody is asking you to abandon your principles, I sure don't plan to.

I think Rush and Laura are still worth listening to... they just took it in the teeth.

One might really argue that not just talk radio but CONSERVATISM in general took it in the teeth tonight, since I do not for one moment consider Huckabee a conservative.

How many primaries has Romney won outside his homestates of Utah and MA? Struggling? No caucuses in the general I'm afraid. Good thing the GOP voters can see beyond the hype of our so called radio pundits.

Dennis Prager is awesome.

Obama looks as if he has sneaked Missouri. This has been a poor night for Hillary. Coulter and Tammy Bruce - your girl needs you <strong>now</strong>!

McCain didn't even get 50% of the vote in ARIZONA! He got over 50% in liberal blue states that won't matter to him in the general election. His media-annointed front-runner status isn't what it seems to those of us that can look beyond the hype.

Dennis Miller, Prager and Medved only ones worth listening to.

Putting all snarkiness aside for a moment, I'd like to believe you, but I just don't.
I think this election will mark the end of the revival that began with Goldwater in 1964 and reached fruition in 1980.
Maybe there's a truebeliever in McCain just waiting to burst out and lead us all into a new era of limited government, a vigorous defence of the nation, and a renewal of the traditional rights of citizenship.
But I just don't see it.
And now I'm thinking that the best thing now is for the "conservatives" to lose in Nov., lick their wounds, and regroup for 2010.
If in the next few months, you McCain supporters can disabuse me of this notion, I'll try to keep an open mind.
But right now things don't look all that swell.

Something fishy is going on in Missouri. <strong>Obama</strong> looks like he's now ahead with only 6 counties in the state. St Louis makes the difference.
