As much as I hate to disagree with you Slu (snicker), I don’t think it’ll get that much play or help Romney much even if he does reasonably well tonight.

Haha. We'll always agree that the field sucks, right?

...now all we’ll be hearing about returns on the East Coast that are expected to go to McCain

Yup. The Maverick™ is going to clean up in the Northeast.

But Maine held out. It's a matter of small pride, but pride nonetheless.

Had McCain let Romney take it, it would’ve given him an early win on the most important day of the race- now all we’ll be hearing about returns on the East Coast that are expected to go to McCain.

If Romney won you would hear nothing. The MSM is solely invested in McCain's campaign. They will do everything in their power to make sure he is the nominee, and then they will destroy him in the general. The media and party establishment dispise Romney.

If Romney stays close and in the race this evening, expect to hear about the WV convention a lot more, because even if it is just the way the system works, it feels slimy enough to backfire against the Maverick™.

As much as I hate to disagree with you Slu (snicker), I don't think it'll get that much play or help Romney much even if he does reasonably well tonight. Romney has tried to push the "Washington Outsider" / "Change" meme, but poorly- GW got away with it because he came off more as a "man of the people", where Mitt really doesn't. Also, for an "outsider" Mitt has very much played the part of a politician in his campaign, complete with negative ads of his own.

Mike Huckakbee just called me to tell me all about his wonderful victory in West Virginia, and asked me to come out and bring a friend, even if the weather is bad.

Agreed. This may (and I think should) come around to bite them in the posterior, but Huckabee and McCain are such huge horse's posteriors to start with, it may not make much of a dent.

Super Tuesday Super Updates...

Sad, unfortunate -- that's what Republican Party officials will say if McCain gets the nomination and 1/4 of the party stays home (or votes for somebody else) in November.

The more I think about WV, it seems a strategic error on the part of McCain in the sense that it allows the Romney campaign a vignette to bolster their "anti-establishment candidate" message. It might have been better for McCain to give up those 18 delegates than give Romney this talking point.

If Romney stays close and in the race this evening, expect to hear about the WV convention a lot more, because even if it is just the way the system works, it feels slimy enough to backfire against the Maverick™.

That having been said, it's going to take a miracle if Romney's in the race tomorrow noon.

Yeah, if say 60% or 70% of McCain's delegates went to Huck I'd call it strategic voting.

When it's 100%, it's clearly collusion.

But when McCain was knocked out, didn’t his supporters have to go somewhere?

I thought McCain was on the second ballot, but his supporters were instructed to go to Huck. That seems shady to me.

Team Mitt whines about "backroom deal".

Why is it whining, AP? It was a deal made backroom or not. what would you have Mitt do? Smile and say "awe shucks, that was a good plan guys. you really pulled one over on old Mitt!" No, you put foot to ass(or a press release) and call it like you see it.

Don't be such a beta-male.

Something tells me all of this proping up McCain is revenge to the conservatives (and talk radio) of the amnesty revolt.

Mike is clearly a tool. He is the leader of the largest portion of the Evangelical vote, bowing down to McCain, who doesn't think the social issues that are crucial to Evangelicals are all that important. As far as I can tell Mike Huckabee is well on his way to successfully and permanently compromising the Evangelical Movement.

McCain's problem is he wont be able to pull this stuff in the general election. There are no delegates to buy. McCain doesn't have the principled support needed to win.

HuckaGibot has the last laugh in WV. Good for him.

What's worth whining about in this situation is that ONCE AGAIN, McVain is defying the will of the voters by pulling scandalous, dirt-bag tactics.

I didn't think I'd sit it out, but I really can't imagine voting for someone with such character flaws as McVain. And I sure as hell won't defend him against the Democrats.
