Hayden names Al Qaeda jihadis waterboarded by CIA

Two of them you knew. The third: Abd-al Rahim al-Nashiri, mastermind of the Cole bombing. Like KSM and Abu Zubaydah, he went under the towel more than five years ago, back when the polls were in Bush’s favor and Nancy Pelosi was therefore still cool with this sort of thing. Our likely nominee has, of course, vowed to put a stop to this non-recurring behavior, so let’s pause for a moment and applaud him for his very bold stand.
Hayden said fewer than 100 people have been held by the CIA in its terrorist detention program. And of those, fewer than one-third were subjected to “enhanced” interrogation methods.
[The three] were subjected to waterboarding “because of the circumstances of the time — the belief that additional catastrophic attacks were imminent at a time when the U.S. had limited knowledge of how al-Qaida worked,” Hayden.
Exit question one, from the comments (and from one of my earlier posts): What is the ratio of lefties waterboarding each other in protest to jihadis waterboarded by the CIA at this point? 30 to one, maybe? Probably more, right? Exit question two: If Ramzi Binalshibh wasn’t waterboarded, what exactly did they do to him to make him cry?

But… But… We torture EVERYONE, don’t we? Aren’t WE supposed to be the most evil??
More libz have been water boarded than terrorists, huh?
Mazztek on February 5, 2008 at 4:02 PM
I volunteer to personally waterboard any of them again, or their friends if needed.
someguy on February 5, 2008 at 4:02 PM
Waterboarding is nothing compared to this:

Read some of Rosie’s poetry to him. He then tried to stab his middle finger, blamed Bush, then started to cry.

Just in, McCain wants to hug them as an apology

Don’t know.
But I’m sure he’s laughing after he hears that John McCain is the only man alive who will fight the war on terror.

You’re just, just MEAN! Don’t you even care how they feel?

After being one of the few Mac supporters still posting on HotAir for the last week, I finally feel like I understan what it’s like to be waterboarded.
On the topic, I understand Mac’s personal distaste for what he views as torture, but I disagree with him on this issue.
I don’t believe that the Marquis of Queensbury rules apply in warfare. I believe in total war. You go to war to win. Period.
But compared to a man who thinks serving his country is having his sons work on his campaign, I am not worried about Mac on the terrorist front.

They fixed him a ‘grasshopper’
(bonus points for catching the reference)
LimeyGeek on February 5, 2008 at 4:17 PM
Have you ever wondered if McCain likes to keep this issue in front of the public because it reminds them of his days as a POW and makes them want to vote for him? I’ll bet you haven’t.

whats the number of military personnel that have been waterboarded as part of their training?

Sure I do.
As long as they hurt a lot, then that is all I care about.
SimplyKimberly on February 5, 2008 at 4:21 PM
If McCain gets in the WH, he’ll close Gitmo (so much for the WOT) and give them all ACLU attorneys.

How many of the libtards who’ve waterboarded themselves had it done like Steve Harrigan?
JammieWearingFool on February 5, 2008 at 4:36 PM
Those lefty types who waterboarded each other were sitting in Starbucks 20 minutes later sipping cappuccino. When you’re tortured, really tortured, you stay tortured. You don’t really feel like a trip to Starbucks.
infidel65 on February 5, 2008 at 4:36 PM
Well, it’s good to know there will be no more suffering of the un-uniformed, militant head sawer-offers now that it looks like we’ll have the choice of a communist or a bleeding-heart Democrat in the election this year.
Whew, I’ll finally be able to sleep at night.
NTWR on February 5, 2008 at 4:37 PM
To be fair we should point out what these nice “Gentlemen” did and how many americans they have killed. I think they would have taken waterboarding over jumping from a skyscrapper.

Very sharp Tex, very sharp indeed ;)
Ronin is a fantastic movie!

Two of these guys are responsible for killing 3,000 Americans on 9/11, and the other guy is responsible for killing 17 U.S. Sailors on the U.S.S. Cole. I can’t understand why anybody would have sympathy for these guys.
SoulGlo on February 5, 2008 at 4:53 PM
For all the Joy Behar clips Ive been subjected to on this site, gimme the damn waterboarding.
Chuck Schick on February 5, 2008 at 4:56 PM
It makes us look really bad to claim we don’t torture only to find out we do. If torture is part of our arsenal (in rare cases), we should say so.
mycowardice on February 5, 2008 at 4:58 PM
Personally I want to see a death rows list of these guys. Forget about the waterboarding

What did they do to make him cry? They forced him to watch the 2000 Presidential Debates in a continuous “I agree with that, Jim” loop of Al Gore Debate Version 1, 2, and his more natural self, 3.
No waterboarding necessary when the above is in play. I’d spill the beans after only a few times after the interrogator hits the “rewind” button.
Weebork on February 5, 2008 at 5:14 PM
Other than not knowing the name of #3, what is newsworthy about this? We’ve known all along that only 3 people were waterboarded, and we had 2 of the 3 names right.
That being said, since it is in the news today, I’d like to see a microphone stuck in McCain’s face, and force him to make a comment.

As a conservative, I have some strong misgivings about allowing the state to use humans as a thing and not to treat them as a whole. Even vile, evil humans.
The history of the 20th century illustrates - a very bloody illustration - what happens when the modern state is untethered from that principle.
Certainly, these people are evil. And waterboarding is undertaken to prevent a greater evil from taking place.
I accept that. I recognize that. I support that.
But it’s still an evil practice. Using people - even unspeakably vile humans - as a means is dangerous.
I’ll have to differ from those who take enjoyment or celebration in this practice. I understand your point. I just don’t think it’s one we should embrace.
SteveMG on February 5, 2008 at 5:25 PM
Who is “taking enjoyment” or “celebrating” the practice, and what do you mean when you say this?:
But it’s still an evil practice. Using people - even unspeakably vile humans - as a means is dangerous.

SteveMG, protecting America is a dirty business sometimes. We got to do what we got to do to stay safe.
SoulGlo on February 5, 2008 at 5:43 PM
I wouldn’t waterboard…
I don’t care, if there was an atom-bomb set to go off in the middle of St. Louis, and a million American lives were at stake.
I have “principles” you know.

This just in: Pelosi, relying on the advice of Berkley’s mayor, believes that waterskiing should be substituted for waterboarding under the theory that a happy terrorist is a talkative terrorist.

Because liberals/progressives/Surrender Monkeys have more sympathy, and more in common, with Islamic terrorists.

I think that this proves that waterboarding is safe. And like Bill O’reilly was right when he compaired Abu Grab to college pranks :)

P.S. I wonder how Hayden even found out!

For all that can rationale that water-boarding constitutes torture can drop dead.
To equate a measure, that is a proven tool, to the savaging of ones physical being is beyond contemptible.
You ultimately bask in the fact that the result is another roadblock in fighting the lowest form of human existence we know.
And it makes for additional tragic tales for you filth to use as an excuse not to fight such evil.
The current, and future leaders of this country should tread extremely carefully when putting their name on laws limiting our ability to fight the banes of society simply because if someone I love is killed by such, and water-boarding, sleep deprivation, even a good old ass-kicking could have saved them. Im looking for the criminal who put politics before my loved ones lives, and I probably wouldnt be the only one.
The recklessness of some of our purported moral experts kills people.
Sonosam on February 6, 2008 at 2:20 AM
The left use waterboarding as a fraternity hazing tool to assure blind obedience from their followers. Doesn’t Abd-al Rahim al-Nashiri, look like a Demoncrate recruit for Alpha Beta?
The only problem is he is still alive after the waterboarding which means it is not as deadly as the Demoncrates want you to believe.
However it is an effective tool to encourage a person to tell the truth without having to resort to Sodium Pentothal which is considered cruel and unusual punishment-but much neater.
MSGTAS on February 6, 2008 at 9:14 AM
The glib and easy morality of the anti-American Left would hold that all choices are between good and bad. The more sophisticated and informed morality holds that very often moral choices are between bad and worse. Torturing terrorists is bad, but refraining from doing what’s necessary to stop a terrorist attack could well be worse.
If the terrorists took down the Sears Tower in Chicago and killed another three thousand Americans, would anyone take comfort by saying, “Hey, at least we didn’t waterboard anybody.” When Al Qaeda cuts the throats of stewardesses, annihilates families going to Disneyworld, forces hundreds of office workers to jump off hundred story buildings, bathes others in flaming gasoline, and then claims the right to kill two million American children, then you just have to do whatever is necessary to stop that evil. Any lesser effort is immoral.
