It’s one thing to stress a style of play that’s less susceptible to turnovers, as a Schottenheimer drills into his players. It’s another to concentrate on high-percentage passing, as in the “West Coast” scheme.

Granted, the Greatest Show on Turf was so powerful that it might score too quickly, and allow the defense to be worn down over the course of the game. But it’s the threat of the deep and medium passing that forces the secondary to play back far enough to open up the high-percentage short passes and running game that conservative coaches love so well.

But Herm is one of those defense-minded guys who operates under the perverse idea that you win by “keeping the other team’s offense off the field”, to the extreme of deliberately having your own offense be less effective.

I call it the “Prevent Offense”. Just like the “Prevent Defense”, it seems like what it prevents is WINNING.

Terrifically enjoyable to see guys like Bellichick, Harrison and Brady take it in the shorts, especially after that BS challenge on the punt that got them a second chance. With Brady getting pounded so much, (especially that bull rush by the rookie DT on the last series where he just planted Tom Terrific), I couldn’t help but think of the Nicholas Colasanto line from Raging Bull – “He ain’t pretty no more”

someone give tyree a medal, that play was all willpower…manning and tyree just straight up wanted it more and got it. amazing play, amazing game, those guys made a giants fan outta this lifelong jet fan.

Yep, the TD pass put the points on the board, but that Manning/Tyree pass play was what won the game.

I can’t get the above link to work, looks like NFL Network changed it to this instead.

This question may have been raised already but I thought FOX said NO Prez ads during the super bowl?! I saw an Obama ad twice at halftime yesterday. Whats up with that??!!

I thought I had read something about that too. Perhaps a special favor for Mr. O, as I’m sure other candidates would have run ads as well, and I only remember seeing the Obama ad.

As far as Belichick walking off the field goes, the clock went all screwy after Brady’s last throw: stopped at 2 sec, then ran down to zero, then was reset. Nearly everyone was on the field by that point. I did see Belichick shake Coughlin’s hand and congratulate him.

Not to mention the fact that Buckner’s error was early in the game and it was the pitching that really lost that game, not Buckner.

I watched as my Cardinal blew there Series, one to the Royals (KC is my hometown so that didn’t sting as bad), one to the Twins and the other to the Red Sox. I don’t if you saw late in the Pats-Ravens game when Harrison was taunting Ravens coach Brian Billick…classless. I can’t stand Harrison. The Pats should have lost that game too…And nice job Giants’ Defense…Brady was hit more in that game then his whole career combined!

I did see that. I share your contempt for Harrison. And yes, I have never seen Brady eat so much dirt.

And I have never enjoyed it so much. :-D

I think its fitting that harrison was the one getting pwnt on the play.. He’s the dirtiest guy in the league, and after the elbow to the head a few plays before, justice was served… Being from St. Louis, hes hated.. but he did introduced us to Kurt Warner, and a SB title (via Trent Greens broken leg in the preseason)

Never bet against the Giants playing a team from the AFC east in a time of war. GREAT game!
