Is there anyone south of Massachusetts who didn’t enjoy this supremely? I’m a Jets fan and even I was psyched by the end of the game. Good lord.
Here’s Burress’s game-winner, and here’s Belichick looking ill afterwards. Exit question: Who thought the scrub Manning brother would ever pwn Tom Brady? Click the image to watch.

No wonder you’re an athiest.

Absolutely amazing.
But Eli still uses too damn much time to get the ball snapped :)
Mr. Bingley on February 4, 2008 at 8:48 AM
The game was very compelling. And I really enjoyed seeing Brady get put on his back a few times.
Spirit of 1776 on February 4, 2008 at 8:54 AM
Then come take you’re coach back!!! He’s ruining my team.
srhoades on February 4, 2008 at 8:57 AM
Nope, unless you mean to compare him to Belichick walking off the field looking sick.
Here’s a preview of Super Tuesday night, which this Pats fan will enjoy supremely.
Big S on February 4, 2008 at 8:57 AM
Well, my prediction was wrong. It wasn’t the usual craptastic SB. Last night’s game was pretty durn good. Can’t stand the Patriots. Good for the Giants!
robblefarian on February 4, 2008 at 8:57 AM
.
More like a Hill-aphor. “Don’t crown the winner until after the game ends.”
.
.
Lord help me, I was rooting for the Giants (Bills fan) :(
artlover on February 4, 2008 at 8:57 AM
Whoa- Guess the GIANTS didn’t believe the POLLS.
else they’d a lost.
Ex-tex on February 4, 2008 at 8:59 AM
Well look what happens in the big game, after the NFL slapped NE for cheating…Belichick, looks like you have to go back to your cheatin ways.
right2bright on February 4, 2008 at 9:01 AM
Ex-tex on February 4, 2008 at 8:59 AM
Agreed. Funny how that works huh?
kcd on February 4, 2008 at 9:07 AM
Great game, the look on Bilicheats face at the end was worth listening to Troy-boy moon over Brady all game. The only sour note was Eli being named MVP. The Giants D won the game for them, some one on the D should have been the MVP. Heck the NFL should have givin the award to the entire Giants defense. Would have been hard sharing the SUV, but hey they can all afford one themselves.
deadbackpacker on February 4, 2008 at 9:07 AM
Belichick walking off before seeing Eli kneel and defeat him was bush league. Freaking crybaby. Be a man and take it.
JiangxiDad on February 4, 2008 at 9:09 AM
someone give tyree a medal, that play was all willpower…manning and tyree just straight up wanted it more and got it. amazing play, amazing game, those guys made a giants fan outta this lifelong jet fan.
ernesto on February 4, 2008 at 9:10 AM
I agree, very bush league. Wasn’t it his celebrated WR who did that 2 years ago? Fitting.
Spirit of 1776 on February 4, 2008 at 9:13 AM
Dude- you’re a Jets fan?
I’ve been a Jets fan since they were the Titans! we’ve suffered a very long time. But if the Jets are out of it, it definitely becomes the Giants, and this was one of the biggest treats for me in a very long time.
The Pats play dirty- witness Harrison’s forearm to the head of Toomer on a reception- and I am glad to see them go down.
AP- you ever get the feeling that someone in the Jets organization plots to ruin the team each year?
drjohn on February 4, 2008 at 9:16 AM
I thought this was another trick by Belichick- something like “Well, the game never ended so it doesn’t count.”
drjohn on February 4, 2008 at 9:17 AM
Show the clip of Eli breaking out of the tackle and hooking up with David Tyree for an INSANE catch! That was crazy.
What a game.
Dash on February 4, 2008 at 9:18 AM
Doh it IS that clip. Oops :)
Dash on February 4, 2008 at 9:20 AM
Mitt-a-phor!
Mitt the underdog can pull it out like the Giants!
GO MITT!
ctmom on February 4, 2008 at 9:20 AM
i think BILL BELICHICK dissed his own defensive team by walking out before the last second was played. After all, they had to stay on the field.
AverageJoe on February 4, 2008 at 9:21 AM
Just End The Season :)
Kowboy on February 4, 2008 at 9:24 AM
I don’t if you saw late in the Pats-Ravens game when Harrison was taunting Ravens coach Brian Billick…classless. I can’t stand Harrison. The Pats should have lost that game too…And nice job Giants’ Defense…Brady was hit more in that game then his whole career combined!
OK_Nate on February 4, 2008 at 9:25 AM
Hey AP, the Western End of Massachusetts has a mixture of Jets/Giants/Pats fans. We’re close to equidistant from Bean Town and NYC. Yeah, I know nit picky.
At my job on Friday most of the Pats fans were quite boisterous, while the Giants fans grit their teeth. Today it is the other way around.
One heck of a good game. Enjoyed watching it. The Giants won it fair and square.
Congratulations to the Giants.
I know I’ll be corrected if I am wrong, but I thought before the clock was reset for the last 1 second I saw Belecheck go over to the Giants coach to congratulate him. So he’s not a complete sleaze ball but still, he should have stayed out on the field.
Duncan Khuver on February 4, 2008 at 9:30 AM
Two things to take away from this.
1) Eli doesn’t have to be Peyton
2) Tom Brady is not Joe Montana.
Okay ~ three things:
3) Two brothers in back-to-back Super Bowls. Both the winning quarterbacks. And BOTH the MVP’s.
Top THAT.
tree hugging sister on February 4, 2008 at 9:31 AM
Throwing the replay flag on that punt was bush league as well, the guy was a step away from the sideline and had noimpact on the play. And since when can you ask for a replay on a call that wasn’tmade?
hulbstar on February 4, 2008 at 9:32 AM
The most relieved man in New England today?
Bill Buckner.

This question may have been raised already but I thought FOX said NO Prez ads during the super bowl?! I saw an Obama ad twice at halftime yesterday. Whats up with that??!!
kcd on February 4, 2008 at 9:45 AM
Two teams with cool uniforms – not those stupid Nike swoosh pants (Why not just wear a commercial on your butt? e.g., Broncos).
Jeff Feagles reaching for the aspirin bottle this A.M. But smiling.
whitetop on February 4, 2008 at 9:48 AM
By this time tomorrow this will be Jessica Simpson’s fault. If she would not have taken Romo to Mexico the Patriots would have played the Cowboys and not the Superbowl Champs, the New York Giants.
Guest1.1 on February 4, 2008 at 9:56 AM
Hey drjohn,
I’ll tell you the same thing I told Allah, get your coach out of my city! You can have Carl Peterson, too. Then you really will know sabotage, and egotism, and idiotic euphamisims . . . oh, wait. Herm was (is) your coach you already know those.
srhoades on February 4, 2008 at 9:56 AM
Belechick walking off before the game actually ended was pretty low class. The Giants defense played a helluva game.
Dave from Flint on February 4, 2008 at 9:58 AM
Nah, he was interviewed after the Sox won the series in ‘04. He said his death threats went up, “If it weren’t for you this would’ve happened a long time ago.”
srhoades on February 4, 2008 at 9:59 AM
Does anyone know what the gesture that Moss did after his touchdown means?
I have to say the Giants had a lot more class the entire game.
74impala on February 4, 2008 at 10:00 AM
I think that play right there, all on it’s lonesome, encapsulates the entire game effort put forth by the Giants.
The Patriots didn’t lose that game, the Giants won it. Man…whadda fantastic match!!
TheGoblinKing on February 4, 2008 at 10:04 AM
Seriously? Dang. Die-hard NE fans are insane.
Still, I live in NE and you’d think it was a national day of mourning or something.
Slublog on February 4, 2008 at 10:05 AM
That’s very sad. I mean, I’m as competitive as the next guy, but I don’t understand why fans can’t understand that nobody tries to make a bonehead play. I think of Buckner, and that Cowboy TE in the SB who dropped the touchdown catch. In life we all make mistakes more serious than dropping a ball, and we hope it goes away–but we revel in remembering athlete’s bonehead plays. I mean, in the end, in the big scheme of things, it is just a game. Let it go, folks. (that’s my bleeding heart speech of the day)
p40tiger on February 4, 2008 at 10:10 AM
Never bet against the Giants playing a team from the AFC east in a time of war. GREAT game!
TroubledMonkey on February 4, 2008 at 10:17 AM
The name is Smith. Jackie Smith. He was traded to the Cowboys from the Rams a year prior. He gained the most yards of any TE until Ozzie Newsome came along.
If it weren’t for that drop, at the end of his career, he’d be in the Hall of Fame. That is a certainty.
otcconan on February 4, 2008 at 10:19 AM
…err…my bad.
He was voted into the HOF in 1994.
otcconan on February 4, 2008 at 10:20 AM
Obviously you haven’t seen Tom Brady’s retarded brother, Bobby Brady, play yet. I here he’s got mad skillz.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on February 4, 2008 at 10:23 AM
Everyone outside on the NE area hates the Patriots. Justice was served last night. I wonder how Tiki felt this morning?

OK. I’ll stop the torture now.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on February 4, 2008 at 10:25 AM
I’m a Cowboys fan and I thought it was glorious to behold.
The Team of Destiny came up one game short.
Awesome!
And the back to back Manning Super Bowl wins is pretty damn fantastic too.
SimplyKimberly on February 4, 2008 at 10:31 AM
Play of the game. I still can’t believe Tyree caught that lame ball. Wow! And right in Rodney Harrison’s face. Harrison is the only guy on the Patriots I truly dislike; he’s dirty.

sry, lil correction
I think its fitting that harrison was the one getting pwnt on the play.. He’s the dirtiest guy in the league, and after the elbow to the head a few plays before, justice was served… Being from St. Louis, hes hated.. but he did introduced us to Kurt Warner, and a SB title (via Trent Greens broken leg in the preseason)
stlpatriot on February 4, 2008 at 10:49 AM
I can’t get the above link to work, looks like NFL Network changed it to this instead.

Once again the media picked a loser. Let’s hope that holds true tomorrow.

No thank you!
drjohn on February 4, 2008 at 11:14 AM
I did see that. I share your contempt for Harrison. And yes, I have never seen Brady eat so much dirt.
And I have never enjoyed it so much. :-D
drjohn on February 4, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Not to mention the fact that Buckner’s error was early in the game and it was the pitching that really lost that game, not Buckner.
I watched as my Cardinal blew there Series, one to the Royals (KC is my hometown so that didn’t sting as bad), one to the Twins and the other to the Red Sox. But I’ve never blamed any one player for the loss and never stopped loving my team (even with Herman Edwards as headcoach — but that’s football).
srhoades on February 4, 2008 at 11:18 AM
Come on! I threw Carl Peterson in there too! Look, even though he was scapegoated I’ll throw Mike Solari in there too.
srhoades on February 4, 2008 at 11:20 AM
We cheered every time Brady ate the ground. Fantastic game! :)
Conservative_SAHM on February 4, 2008 at 11:28 AM
I thought I had read something about that too. Perhaps a special favor for Mr. O, as I’m sure other candidates would have run ads as well, and I only remember seeing the Obama ad.
As far as Belichick walking off the field goes, the clock went all screwy after Brady’s last throw: stopped at 2 sec, then ran down to zero, then was reset. Nearly everyone was on the field by that point. I did see Belichick shake Coughlin’s hand and congratulate him.
TheFluke on February 4, 2008 at 11:28 AM
I think we should all e-mail FOX and find out the scoop!
kcd on February 4, 2008 at 11:31 AM
The NFL.com servers must be taking a beating. I can’t bring up any video.
TheFluke on February 4, 2008 at 11:31 AM
When this game ended I felt like I got rejected by a fat chick.
Zetterson on February 4, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Apparently Belicheat didn’t spend enough time looking at the Giants’ ‘walk thru’ bootleg tape from Saturday. Cheating sometimes doesn’t work, as we saw. Brute force and determination by the Giants, ALL THE GIANTS, did it. What a game! What a Super Bowl! It did not disappoint, as thy usually do. When I saw Belicheat NOT wearing his dirty, worn, good luck, hooded sweatshirt, I knew they were doomed. He wore some stupid fire engine red shirt to his downfall. What a jerk! He looked like he expected the Giants to lay down, as teams usually do, to the ‘awesome’ Boston onslaught. Boston looked like they actually are – a bunch of ‘one name’ ordinary players who didn’t have the Devil, (for years I thought Kraft sold his soul to the Devil to win games) on their side, or the other teams’ playbook, (ask Warner of the the St. Louis Rams), for a change, and actually had to play an honest game of football. Belicheat after the game looked very disappointed, to say the least. Hopefully ’spygate’ ain’t over either. Now Martz and the rest can come out and speak their piece about Belicheat and his cheating. To bad it’s not criminal, I’d like to see him do some time for trying to ruin our beloved Nation sport!
countywolf on February 4, 2008 at 12:21 PM
Yep, the TD pass put the points on the board, but that Manning/Tyree pass play was what won the game.
Midas on February 4, 2008 at 12:21 PM
I wonder if New Englanders will give Eli the same knickname that they gave to Buckner and Bucky Dent.
Bigfoot on February 4, 2008 at 12:22 PM
It was a great game. I am neither a Giants or Patriots fan, but when I was in the 5th grade I wanted to be Larry Csonka. Only a couple of years later I figured out I was never going to be a back and switched to offensive line. However, Miami’s perfect season is a special memory for me (the build up to the Super Bowl that year was even more exciting than Christmas) and I am so glad it is still the only one. That is one record I don’t want to see broken in my lifetime.
Buford on February 4, 2008 at 12:29 PM
As an Eagles fan I wrestled with who to pull for in this game, but about 5 minutes in it was just instinctively clear that I wanted the Giants to win, and I’ll deal with them having won a third Super Bowl later.
Terrifically enjoyable to see guys like Bellichick, Harrison and Brady take it in the shorts, especially after that BS challenge on the punt that got them a second chance. With Brady getting pounded so much, (especially that bull rush by the rookie DT on the last series where he just planted Tom Terrific), I couldn’t help but think of the Nicholas Colasanto line from Raging Bull – “He ain’t pretty no more”
Dudley Smith on February 4, 2008 at 12:41 PM
Poor ‘ol Mitt Romney, John f’n Kerry and Ted Kennedy can cry.
Chakra Hammer on February 4, 2008 at 2:18 PM
It’s one thing to stress a style of play that’s less susceptible to turnovers, as a Schottenheimer drills into his players. It’s another to concentrate on high-percentage passing, as in the “West Coast” scheme.
Granted, the Greatest Show on Turf was so powerful that it might score too quickly, and allow the defense to be worn down over the course of the game. But it’s the threat of the deep and medium passing that forces the secondary to play back far enough to open up the high-percentage short passes and running game that conservative coaches love so well.
But Herm is one of those defense-minded guys who operates under the perverse idea that you win by “keeping the other team’s offense off the field”, to the extreme of deliberately having your own offense be less effective.
I call it the “Prevent Offense”. Just like the “Prevent Defense”, it seems like what it prevents is WINNING.
