Video: Palestinians celebrate suicide attack in Israel

It was the first one in a year, and facilitated by that Gaza-Egypt wall breach.

The two homicide bombers who attacked the Israeli town of Dimona on Monday entered Israel from Egypt after Gaza militants blew up the Gaza-Egypt border wall, a Palestinian militant said.

One Israeli was killed in the attack, but one of the bombers was shot dead before he could detonate his explosives…

Abu Fouad said the group initially said the attackers were from the West Bank as a diversionary tactic. At the time, he said they didn’t know if the second attacker was still alive, so they wanted to confuse the Israelis.

Once they confirmed he was dead, they announced that they were from Gaza.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to suspect that the wall breach in January was done in order to facilitate this attack. That would make the humanitarian motivation just a cover story, and would mean that Hamas was in on the entire plot up to the highest levels. If that’s how things went down, it’s hardly shocking. Hamas is and always was a terrorist group first and foremost.

This video of Palestinians celebrating the suicide attack isn’t all that surprising either. It is a reminder of who the Israelis are dealing with and why they might tend to mete out collective punishment: These people elected Hamas and they support terrorist attacks on Israeli civlians. They’re not people who want a two-state solution; they want a one-state solution, and that one state isn’t Israel.

Update (AP): Israeli troops greet the other side. All things considered, I’m … not outraged. Although expect to see this incident cited by Pali propagandists as yet another “humiliation” warranting blowing up a bus or something.

When will the UN and other international agencies decry the collective punishment?

Oops, my bad. The Israelis haven’t responded yet.

I suspect Alaska would have been more peaceful.

Hey Isrealis! You’re welcome here anytime!

Naw, the UN is going to come down on Israel HARD for daring to defend itself. They should be smart like the UN and outsource the defense of all their nations to the United States.

BKennedy on February 4, 2008 at 9:24 AM

Isn’t Dimona the town that houses Israel’s nuclear facilities?

JiangxiDad on February 4, 2008 at 9:25 AM

“Homicide” bombers? Interesting new terminology. The press screwed up this time, though; it almost expresses a moral condemnation of the murderer instead of the Joo victim. Woops.

it almost expresses a moral condemnation of the murderer freedom fighter instead of the Joo victim oppressor.

Fixed myself.

The Palestinians elected a terror organization to run their govt (such as it is), they celebrate suicide bombings.. my sympathy level for them when the Israelis dish out some collective punishment that Bryan mentioned is pretty much zero.

Yakko77 on February 4, 2008 at 9:33 AM

That will exterminate the Israelis
It will be easier for us.

Uh, no. No matter what is given to you, Palestinians, you turn it into absolute crap.

Blake on February 4, 2008 at 9:34 AM

Cut off Gaza. No power. No food. No medicine. Whatever happened to that story about Hamas agreeing not to take any supplies from Israel? In any case, it’s not a humanitarian obligation to feed your enemies who are killing you. Let them starve in their own filth.

One Israeli was killed in the attack, but one of the bombers was shot dead before he could detonate his explosives…

What? You mean he wasn’t given a fair trial?

If he’s dead how is he going to take part in John McCain’s plan to close Guantanamo Bay and more the terrorists to the US for trials?

We live in interesting times. We need strong, effective leadership.

“Some people, of course, think that it’s possible to live with a nuclear Iran. That thinking is based on the theory that Iran, once it’s granted the privilege of becoming a member of the nuclear club, that it will be a responsible actor. Neither their words nor their actions justify that kind of thinking.” (Governor Mitt Romney, Remarks At Yeshiva University, 4/26/07)

Watch the video link again.

Israel responded to the suicide bombings by blowing up the car of the Popular Resistance Committee’s leader, Abu Said Qarmout. The attack killed Qarmount, and injured two members of the group who were riding with him. The P.R.C. has been behind a good portion of the rockets fired into southern Israel from Gaza.

These people are so derranged that they are starting to devolve into something less than human. “Disgusting” doesn’t even come close to describing these animals. The real story is who made the decision in the MSM to portray these people as desperate heroes all those years ago and why did the rest of the MSM follow like sheep? Was it antisemitism? Was it a hatred for Democracy and Freedom? Was it mental illness brought on by illegal drug use in the 60’s. All I know is that an entire nation of freedom lovers (Israel) is on the verge of extinction because a group of sadistic criminals at the UN have teamed with a group of intellectual morons at the NY Times to orchestrate another Holocaust. These people really are the new Nazi’s. Somewhere in hell, Hitler is smiling.

Gartrip on February 4, 2008 at 9:43 AM

The breach of the wall had been worked on for months, Bryan. You don’t blow up seven miles of metal wall without long preparations. Israeli security services said a “massive amount” of weapons and explosives, including long-range rockets, were smuggled into Gaza during the time the wall was down. Hamas was “policing” the border with Egyptians, refusing to let Egypt run the show at all, until they’d gotten everything into Gaza that they wanted.

Of course, the media only shows photos of the motorcycles that Gazans bought in Egypt. There’s almost no mention of the tons of weapons that went into Gaza as well.

Hamas, which is Iran’s client, is preparing for the next offensive against Israel. Hezbullah prepares on their northern border. And there is Hamas in the West Bank, as well as the other terrorist groups.

I’ve been writing about Israel on my blog for six years now.

The next war will have many, many Israeli casualties. Not that most of the world gives a damn about dead Jews.

It’s a relief to be around people who do care.

Those people have been used and abused for too long. I`m sorry I keep thinking this but, they are a lost people. I fear there`s no hope for them.

What people? The scummy Palestinian terrorists and their admirers, the sickening Palestinian citizens?

amkun on February 4, 2008 at 9:30 AM

“Homicide bombers” is a term used by Fox News to put the focus on the victims rather than on the perpetrator. It also reflects the intent of the bombers because murder is their primary objective. The suicide (”martyrdom”) is just a bonus and can’t be achieved without the murderous intent. It makes sense as an editorial decision, so Fox is the only outlet using the term.

It’s an interesting contradiction for me. On the one hand, the Palestinians I met while in the Middle East were wonderfully friendly and sweet people. On the other hand, this stuff is nauseating.

It’s hard to reconcile them both. I have to understand, I suppose, that it’s possible for them to be both sweet to the tourists while celebrating the deaths of Israelis (and me, if they had the chance). I suppose since I’m not all that two-faced, it’s difficult for me to comprehend people who are.

mjk on February 4, 2008 at 10:40 AM

And all cultures and people are equal, right?

Life experience can be an ugly thing, and in my 40+ years experience with Palestinians, (all the way before Arafat) has been how disgusting so many of these people are. When you think they have hit the bottom, they always bounce down lower. What a mentality these people have “evolved” to. It looks to me like they always seem to get what they diserve. Too bad thy lack the mentality to wise up.

saiga on February 4, 2008 at 10:40 AM

It annoys me how people react to me pointing out the obvious about this incident. I point out that the Palestinians would be react with equal joy on learning that any American had been murdered and are our enemies, and I get labeled some horrible right-wing war monger. Daring to point out the obvious should not even be given a political label like “left” or “right”. Nor should admitting that other people have declared war on us imply that I’m a war monger.

Of course, people who oppose minimum wage laws because the victims of minimum wage law are poor are someway called callous about the poor. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised by the mindless name-calling reaction of the left (or the Huckabee Right) about telling the truth about the Palestinians.

Egypt is a huge country. Take Gaza back and give half of Egypt to the bombers of peace.

Feedie on February 4, 2008 at 11:44 AM

The Palestinians are a good example of what happens when people are able to exist without being responsible for themselves. The billions that the EU and the US have sent these morons hasn’t made them any less homicidal. Look how well welfare reform has worked here!

With an Israeli government run by crooks and idiots, a left-wing Israeli media that exhibits clinically suicidal tendencies, the Israeli people are suffering and will suffer until they finally get another Begin who won’t take all the crap. Or at least an honest government. That would be new!

TexasJew on February 4, 2008 at 11:48 AM

Did everyone catch the quote by the Palestinian who was outraged over the IDF mooning incident?

“The Israeli society should be shamed by this footage, especially the families who raised such monsters,” added Tibi.”

Israelis moon, Palestinians go “kaboom,” but the Israelis are the ones who should be shamed…

Meanwhile, we send these scumbags billions of our tax dollars.

These people are as much our enemy as the rest of the Jihadiacs.

Hening on February 4, 2008 at 12:32 PM

How about we all quit sugar-coating what they really are: Demonic muslim terrorists. I’m so sick of the pc bs. They are causing death/destruction/chaos all over the world and getting a free pass from the pathetic media. Debbie Schlussel had it right when she said muslims were the new Nazis.

PoliticallyIncorrectSandy on February 4, 2008 at 12:57 PM

Collective punishment is a good synonym for war. I’m suspicious of any term which is only applied to Israel or the United States. Blowing up a pet market seems pretty collective if you picked that unlucky day to get your toddler a parakeet.

Beagle on February 4, 2008 at 1:19 PM

I don’t think it’s a stretch to suspect that the wall breach in January was done in order to facilitate this attack.

I think it is. The breach took a lot of resources, and they wouldn’t do it for the sake of a single attack that was more likely to fail or have a low body count than to kill the number of people they hoped to. If the point of the breach was to facilitate attacks, it would involve multiple attempted attacks, not just this one. At this point, we don’t know if any other attacks have been or will be attempted.

It is a reminder of who the Israelis are dealing with and why they might tend to mete out collective punishment

I think that just the fact that you say they might means that you’ve already bought in a bit to Palestinian propaganda. Compared to other nations dealing with serious terror threats, the punishment that Israel metes out is among the least collective imaginable. The fact that even a defender of their actions would assume otherwise shows just how powerful Palestinian propaganda is.

calbear on February 4, 2008 at 1:43 PM

I know this is off-topic, (I can’t ever seem to log into “Blogging the Quran”-I keep getting Error 404 every time I try) but the Fox News site had a side article on Muslim medical workers in Britain who are refusing to follow standard cleanliness practices by exposing their forearms up to their elbows for washing. Of course, the Islamic Medical Association fully endorses this refusal, and the hospitals and clinics aren’t enforcing it because they are afraid of being sued for religious discrimination.
Ain’t Dhimmitude great?

Personally, I look forward to the day that Israel decides that they have had enough, and they carpet bomb “Palestine” into oblivion.
That’s the day that I will celebrate.

ataloss on February 4, 2008 at 6:12 PM

Hey don’t get too mad, they are just celebrating some holiday that just happened to fall on the same day as the bombing… Just like 9-11
