Audio: McCain’s not so straight-talkin’ immigration robocall

This McCain campaign robocall was intercepted and preserved by an intrepid soul out in California, where Romney either leads by a little or a lot and where he has been surging over the weekend. Immigration is one of those issues where McCain’s maverickness shines through most brightly. Better hide that light under a bushel, stat!

Here’s what McCain says in the call.

SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN: On the issue of immigration, there’s no debate that our borders are broken. There are 12 million people here illegally. I’ve listened and learned. We must secure our borders first and restore trust and confidence in our government. As president, I’ll hire new border patrol guards, build a fence, ask governors to certify that their borders are secure. The 2 million people who have committed crimes will be deported immediately. No one will be rewarded for illegal behavior. They’ll go the back of the line, pay fines and learn English. For those already in our country, there will be no special privileges and we’ll punish employers who hire illegal immigrants. We’ll be humane and compassionate, but we will be firm. It’s a matter of national security.

What kind of fence would McCain build? Oh yeah…

How would McCain inspire confidence in government? Give former Mexican cabinet officer Juan Hernandez a post in Homeland Security? Along with Sen. Lindsay “we’re gonna tell the bigots to shut up” Graham as Attorney General? And by signing his own McCain-Kennedy bill once a Democrat Congress has sent it to his desk?

Yeah, probably all that.

From Dr Thomas Sowell

McCain was one of “the Keating five” — Senators who used their influence to try to protect a failing savings & loan company, which also became the subject of a corruption investigation.

During the 2000 primaries, the Associated Press reported Senator McCain’s joking about people with Alzheimer’s.

This went beyond bad taste because (1) it was known at the time that Ronald Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer’s and (2) the media to whom McCain was pandering hated Ronald Reagan.

It is especially ironic now to see McCain wrapping himself in the mantle of President Reagan.

I do not vote for Liars.

All the conservative pundits who are urging people like me to “take one for the team” seem to forget a few things:

1. McCain is a liberal democrat (yes I know about his voting record being 80% conservative but I doubt that number assigns weights to the IMPORTANT votes)

2. The primaries are still going on—McCain may have been crowned by the MSM and by news and internet pundits—but Mitt is still in the race (and others). Let’s continue the debates.

3. I vote per my beliefs. I vote for the person I feel best represents my beliefs and who can best lead our country. To help me know who to vote for, we have debates and primaries. I do not simply vote for the frontrunner. That is why I got so sick and tired of pundits who try to prejudice the electoral process just to show their written wit.

Back to the topic. McCain is a damn liar.

While securing the borders transistion Education Department workers into Border Patrol agency. Train ‘em and send em out on the straights and round ‘em up. Start with the large companies, first. Call out National Guard to truck ‘em to to the boarder. Force ‘em to build a wall comparable to the Great Wall of China. Shove ‘em over the top when they’re done.

Look…RIGHT NOW there are laws on the books in regards to people who are in this country illegally. RIGHT NOW there is funding set aside to build a majority of that border fence. If we’re not going to enforce laws we have, then I believe that no one can come up with new laws, and enforce those.

We really need to come to the realization that 12 million people are NOT going to be deported. By anyone. You can call it “amnesty” or whatever else, but I have to settle with calling it “reality”…whether I like it, or not.

There’s far too much over-reacting to the immigration issue. The GOP is tearing itself apart over it…and for what? Nothing’s changed. Even Reagan knew the reality of it. And of anyone on the ticket who’s closest to Reagan was, it’s McCain.

And anyone who thinks Mitt Romney’s plan of a case-by-case basis (sounds like amnesty to me!) is really going to work when you’re talking about 12 million people, is crazy. Just imagine the buerocracy that would have to be implemented just to deal with the paperwork alone?

I tend to give people who are addicted to prescription drugs after suffering debilitating pain a pass.

Where I get irritated with McCain is:

1. When he plays the class warfare game against Mitt (which would not be unlike John Kerry doing that while married to Teresa Heinz).

2. I loathe politicians who when caught doing something wrong (Keating Five) aren’t thankful that they got off and look for redemption, but turn around and create new laws as if those laws would have prevented them from screwing up in the first place. In his case his “tempation” gave us CFR.

Spot on. 8 years of a Republican POTUS hasn’t been able to solve the problem, because the President knows he cannot just uproot and deport tens of millions of people to God knows where. McCain’s proposal of securing the border and separating the criminals from the workers is sensible enough.

But the shrilling about it on HotAir is more about MM’s own crusade, and her personal antagonism with Geraldo Rivera. She’s invested far too much in the issue to drop it off the top of the agenda.

Did you just get off the Willie Nelson conspiracy bus? MM doesn’t post here and her views are likely at odds (at times) with either Allahpundit or Bryan. My views sure as hell are at odds with Allahpundit.

But seriously–McCain spent all that time trying to shove amnesty down America’s throat and he just now decides he needs to enforce the law?

Yeaa…mkay…I’m gunna-sorta-kinda-hafta call BS on that…mkay? Yeaaa….thanks.

There is no conspiracy. There is no derangement. There are many reasons for people to not like McCain–let alone to not like the idea of him being POTUS.

But it sure is easy to press the conspiracy alarm. No need to dig into the facts and then apply reason and logic.

Besides Oprah Winfrey picks our reading material. She may as well pick out President.

We really need to come to the realization that 12 million people are NOT going to be deported. By anyone. You can call it “amnesty” or whatever else, but I have to settle with calling it “reality”…whether I like it, or not.

“Waaa, Waaaaaaa, Waa… the problem is too big, can’t do it, it’s too Harrrrrrrrrd.”
Stop the tidalwave of people coming over our boarders, deport the criminals, allow the police to ask immigration status, enforce punishment of those who hire illegals… while making it easier for them to come here and work legally (while preferably holding a percentage of their paycheck at the boarder which would be given to them when they leave) and for us to track who IS, and IS NOT, in this country…. and those who are illegal will leave on their own w/o having to deport them.

There’s far too much over-reacting to the immigration issue. The GOP is tearing itself apart over it…and for what? Nothing’s changed. Even Reagan knew the reality of it. And of anyone on the ticket who’s closest to Reagan was, it’s McCain.

And look how well Reagan handled immigration? (Ref. 1st point above). Bill Bennett put it best when he said “Even Reagan was not Reagan before he was Reagan.” or something to that effect. Meaning your memory of someone is not often as it really was. Reagan is not a god and was not perfect. 1986 Amnesty bill (the one never to be repeated… like the NFA machine gun amnesty) was an example of that.

And anyone who thinks Mitt Romney’s plan of a case-by-case basis (sounds like amnesty to me!) is really going to work when you’re talking about 12 million people, is crazy. Just imagine the buerocracy that would have to be implemented just to deal with the paperwork alone?

And McCain-Kennedy will be any better? That bill was designed to fail… just like his new “version.” We have become sheep, we don’t care abour freedom and liberty, even as it is taken from us inch by inch from these career criminal politicians. Thomas Jefferson is rolling over in his grave at the thought of what we have become.
Wake up, vote, washington needs new blood… and we need an end to the string of gutless career politicians.
