Video: Huckabee accuses Romney of buying Hannity’s endorsement

Even more amazing than the accusation is the fact that the embed who recorded it buried it in a post about Huck’s dopey Romney/Hillary comparison. Skip ahead to 1:31; the beginning of the question is cut off but it’s clear enough that Hannity, who announced two days ago that he’ll vote for Mitt, is the subject. Huck himself refers to “Sean” in his answer. The background here is that Mitt’s firm, Bain Capital, owns Clear Channel Communications, which in turn owns all sorts of talent, Hannity included. Not until the last few weeks, though, when talk radio broke hard towards Romney to stop McCain (and, before him, Huck) was the Bain/CCC connection an issue. In fact, we’ve gotten several tips to the effect that Bain just recently bought CCC in a last-ditch effort to monopolize the media on Mitt’s behalf; for that lazy smear you can thank HuffPo, which duly repeated it on their site before googling for five seconds and discovering that Bain actually bought CCC back in November 2006. Which means that, per Huck’s theory, Hannity’s supposedly been in the tank for Romney for the past 14 months even while he was giving tons of airtime and admiring buzz to Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson.
And of course, true to Huckabee form, not only does this come in the context of a longer class-warfare harangue (per the emphasis on Mitt breaking up companies and laying people off) but he doesn’t have the balls to own the dirty trick he’s engaged in. He qualifies the accusation by stressing that “some suggest” Hannity might be in the tank, not necessarily our “Christian leader.” We’ll see if Hannity has more balls than he does by hammering him about this the next time he’s on H&C. I’m not optimistic. Click the image to watch.
Update: Not all talk radio stars are with Clear Channel either, needless to say. Ingraham is with Talk Radio Network.

The process to be McCain’s VP begins now.
RobCon on February 2, 2008 at 12:33 PM
Wow… just wow. Desperate times call for me getting Mitt lawn signs and taking the kids out with me for doing some postering. At least I have enough sense not to stand/post on the Ronulan corner…
I’ll probably get accused I’m being bought off. /s

Bought it with what?
Lobstergrams?
profitsbeard on February 2, 2008 at 12:35 PM
If Hannity’s radio endorsement is bought by Bain , who will his bosses at FOX tell him to endorse on the TV show?
JiangxiDad on February 2, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Is it too much to ask that our candidates refrain from theorizing that support for another candidate is due to some corporate influence, and not because they like their positions on issues over the other candidates (I know, crazy sounding, isn’t it)?
smithinmich on February 2, 2008 at 12:37 PM
I remember when Hannity had Huckabee on his radio show promoting him. I kept asking myself “why does he give mic time to this complete joke of a candidate?”
GogglesPisano on February 2, 2008 at 12:39 PM
Good job Huckmania. Romney only has a few days of life left. Come wednesday he’ll drop out after getting housed on super duper teusday.
THE CHOSEN ONE on February 2, 2008 at 12:43 PM
I love the logic Huck uses:”A vote for me is a vote for me”, but a vote for Mitt is a vote for Hillary. You can’t have it both ways Huck, if a vote for you is a vote for you, then a vote for Mitt is a vote for Mitt. This guy is such a dirty weasel, how anyone doesn’t see right through Huckabee is beyond me.
lan astaslem on February 2, 2008 at 12:43 PM
As I said before — the Huckster is in the tank to take down Romney and ensure McCain wins. He knows, and his staff knows, there is no way he personally can win. So why stay in at this point? To torpedo Romney and ensure McCain wins. That is the ONLY explanation. I’m betting he is going for the VP slot.
A McCain/Huckster ticket is guaranteed to lose, and lose big time. But even if, say, lightning vaporized the Hillery and McCain were to win — he would just amnesty the zillion illegals who would then vote Democrat for the next eternity. So it looks like we are going to lose either way. McCain/Huckleberry or Clinton/Obama.

EJDolbow on February 2, 2008 at 12:49 PM
Maybe if Romenee is nice he can be like Huckmania’s administrative assistant after Mav gives the Huckster a position like Ambassador to New Guinea.
THE CHOSEN ONE on February 2, 2008 at 12:51 PM
Huckabee mentioned that he must be conservative b/c Duncan Hunter endorsed him.
…and the Tancredo endorsement of Romney… means nothing?
HYTEAndy on February 2, 2008 at 12:51 PM
Huckabee just bought himself 3 hours of NEGATIVE press on the radio Monday and one hour of Negative press on Monday night on Hannity and Colmes.
Him not too bright.
EJDolbow on February 2, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Hannity announced yesterday that Huckabee called him and wanted to be on H&C last night. I watched to see the fireworks but there was no Huckabee. Sean even said on his radio show yesterday that the governor would be on H&C last night. I wonder what happened?
coffee260 on February 2, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Sorry AP, I lost interest after the first paragraph because Huck doesn’t mean anything anymore. And I’m not denying that he stands to ruin Romney’s chances (by splitting the vote), but what I am saying is there’s nothing that can be done at this point. I think we can all agree that anyone supporting Huckleberry is a dope in the first place, so no wake up call short of marital infidelity is going to make the boneheads leave his camp.
Exit Conspiracy Theory (in response to the one you mentioned and debunked above): Does anyone know what Huckabee’s wife’s maiden name was? I didn’t, until I just looked at his Wikipedia page: Janet McCain. Can’t be a coincidence, he’s clearly linked to the McCain family and is his entire campaign is a sneaky McCain campaign operation. So while Hannity has been in the tank for Romney for 14 months, Huck has been in the tank for McCain, to split the social-con vote with Romney since he married his wife in 1974. Got you now Huck!
RightWinged on February 2, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Absolutely disgusting.
IrishGirl17 on February 2, 2008 at 12:52 PM
My thought exactly, and Huckleberry won’t mind one bit since he is used to being a biotch for liberals.
DannoJyd on February 2, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Yeah, like Hannity needs the money, jackass. It’s amazing how the Huckster manages to lower himself further by the day. If I wanted to hear Marxist class warfare rhetoric, I’d listen to the Democrats. The gutless (”some suggest”) lack of ownership of his own words just makes it worse.
ReubenJCogburn on February 2, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Unlike McCain and Huckabee, ROmney does not need a job in the government to make himself feel like he is somebody important.
He will be the President or he will go home and enjoy the fruits of his labor the past 40 years.
EJDolbow on February 2, 2008 at 12:53 PM
I remember the time when Sean Hannity was proud of the fact that he was standing on principle by refusing to endorse a candidate in the primaries. Then, as if he never said such a thing, he proudly endorsed a candidate for the primaries.

Well the political ads have started running here in GA. I have seen Mitts and seen McCains and Obamas. To summarize
Obama – Change, Out of Iraq now I have no real policy postiions
McCain – Vietnam (Looks more like a recruiting commercial for the Navy)
Romney – Family values, success at a variety of endeavors, strong on defense
Even if I just woke up yesterday from a coma I would have to vote for Romney. He is the only one who gave me a reason.
Just A Grunt on February 2, 2008 at 12:56 PM
What a f**king jerk-off. I despise this guy more every day. He is as power hungry as the Clintons, he just doesn’t have the resources and the machine they do.
Here’s what’s wrong with this d-bag. He’s playing the victim with regards to Mitt and his money. Poor li’l Huckleberry is being out spent by mean ol’ Mitt. Well, playing the victim is the liberal core value. Liberalism can’t exist without victims. Time for this guy to man up, stop his whining, and act like a Conservative. He needs someone to slap him around like Don Corleone slaping Johnny Fontane.
Mallard T. Drake on February 2, 2008 at 12:56 PM
I don’t care what Huckabee says-my vote goes to Romney.
Huckabee is not being honorable. But he is being a politician.
Doug on February 2, 2008 at 12:56 PM
It’s actually kinda funny how Huck pokes righty radio like that. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t believe in those conspiracy theories, but that statement about corporate influence will surely get Rush et al into a spitting rage on Monday and Tuesday. Anyone who listens to Rush, Ingraham, Hannity, Levin, or any of the others already knows their opinions about Huck, and is not likely to be swayed any further away from him. However, if he can make those hosts look overly spiteful, he might be able to get a bit of an anti-establishment sympathy vote, plus a little extra airtime for free on account of the controversy.

Lol, take a nap, wake up… rub your eyes… then read my comment again. It was a JOKE! The only part that was true is that Huckabee’s wife’s maiden name was McCain, but I was making up a ridiculous conspiracy theory as a joke (I suspect everyone else got it?). XD, sorry man, but that was funny.

Still waiting for Huckabee’s first attack on McCain…..
the illicit double-team of John and Huck against Mitt is now SO obvious that it almost becomes a parody of itself.
And I guess “Vice President” Lindsey Graham must be wondering what HE can now do to wipe McCain’s arse and get back in the brownnose sweepstakes.

Tragically, Hannity is what passes for “aggressive right-winger” these days.
P.S. Does anyone else think that O’Reilly, with his mispronounced wordiness, is trying to evoke Buckley? Of course, it fails, since Buckley a)didn’t need to have a staffer look up a difficult word and b)used them correctly and fluently, not as a poorly executed punch-line.

The next time someone is at a Schmuckabee (Huckaphony, for Levin listeners) event could you ask him if the following is in his Bible:
If the answer is “Yes”, ask him if this rule (commandment) can be amended especially if you are running for president. Is this a living and breathing commandment that can be changed like he wants to change the Constitution?
WWJD? Not what Huck is doing.

What a jerk!
He actually smiled when he started the Bain Capital witch hunt.
He threw out Duncan Hunter a couple times and not a word about Chuck, apparently Duncan and Chuck are out for an Ambassadorship since they’re the ones supposedly canoodling his rosey red.
The only reason Huck is hanging on at this point is a McCain suck up and Romney envy.
Speakup on February 2, 2008 at 1:13 PM
Precisely my point! He tries too hard at being wordy, ends up looking dumb rather than intelligent, all in an attempt to convince the viewer that he’s “of the right.”
He’s of the center, at best. But he’s no conservative. That’s true of, I believe, all of the hosts of any Fox News show – except Brit Hume (I have no support for that, I just like his ties).

That really isn’t important in Huck’s bigger picture. It is essential he get the VP spot for the resume polishing and publicity potential. Can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, and his soul wouldn’t let him do anything really bad, anyway.

Disgusting. The more I learn about him, the
less I likemore I dislike him. The sooner he disappears, the better.petefrt on February 2, 2008 at 1:24 PM
He was true to it as long as there were multiple conservatives in the race. He didn’t choose between Rudy, Hunter, Romney, Huck, Tancredo et al as long as they were all in the race. But once it was a de-facto 2 man race (does anybody not on meds actually expect Huck to win this?) and one of the candidates has a strong track record of betrayal of the GOP, it’s perfectly legitimate for him to throw his support behind Mitt.
Remember, Rush doesn’t endorse candidates either, but he railed actively against McCain in 2000 once McCain became the GOP version of Vladimir Lenin.
infidelpride on February 2, 2008 at 1:24 PM
It surely has dawned on Huckabee that whether or not he is McCain’s running mate, after he won Iowa he had a shot at being the front-runner in 2012 after McCain goes down in flames this year. Romney is taking that away from him. That’s why he is attacking him so furiously. This is the opening of the 2012 Republican nomination campaign. So far Mitt is not taking the bait because he thinks he still has a shot at taking down McCain and winning the 2008 nomination

If nothing else disqualified you as having anything worthwhile to add to this site that first post alone does it for me. The second post is just proof you have no clue what honesty is.
The fact that you are actually supporting lying, smears, and dishonesty makes anything you say worthless. And also explains why you back McCain so much. Really, it is going to be enjoyable to watch him get destroyed and read you whine about the attacks & how unfair it all is to him.
You sound like a old school Clinton supporter. Anything your candidate does or says, or his underlings, is right and acceptable as long as it helps them win.
Thank you for providing even more evidence that McCain and his supporters have no core, no value, and deserve to lose. Really, I am happy that you are around.
Voidseeker on February 2, 2008 at 1:42 PM
Wow. Just when I thought Huck couldn’t be any slimier. He goes and pulls a stunt like this and proves just how naive I am.
If Romney wins the nomination, I can’t imagine any reconciliation with Huck or McCain. Not after all the two faced slimy tricks they’ve pulled. Huck is finished and will probably run for another public office in Arkansas (this time as a Democrat) while President Romney will campaign strongly for the person after McCain’s senate seat – Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

That thought crossed my mind as I created the obviously humorous conspiracy theory… but then I thought, “I don’t need to put a disclaimer on this… it’s so over the top, no one would believe HotAir would allow someone with this many screws loose to post here”. Evidently, I assumed wrong. Still, I thought identifying it from the get go as a “conspiracy theory” would have eliminated any confusion, not to mention the absurdity of what I was asserting.. then again, it’s not much crazier than what Truthers believe and there are tens of millions of them.

Agreed. Sometimes it’s a little too much like the Daily Show – the “hey, let’s throw out some anti-Bush chum and call it funny,” but other times I literally laugh out loud.
Sorta on topic: I voted in Maine’s caucuses today. Very early results put Romney ahead. Those results may hold here in the Bangor area. I give a very slight edge to McCain, but Romney turned out quite a few voters, and there was genuine concern about the possibility of a McCain nomination.
The fact that McCain has been endorsed by both Snowe and Collins is not a point in his favor among most GOP voters I know.

Ever since the “that’s not a cross, that’s a bookcase” story I have considered Mike Huckabee a fraud. He obviously considers us to be very gullible and stupid. All the more reason not to vote for McCain should he consider or make Huckabee his running mate. It’s time for huckabee to get out of the race and let the two top runners battle it out. (I did intend the lower case h on his name.)

Typical Huckster. Smear someone, in this case Hannity, while pretending like you’re not actually smearing them (with the “some suggest” statement).
I will lose absolutely all respect for Sean Hannity if he doesn’t complete unload on Huckadouche for this crap.
You have to love the utter hypocrisy of the Huckster’s too, whining that Fred Thompson took votes from them in South Carolina to help McCain, but he’s clearly taking votes from Romney now to help McCain.
BTW, Fred was in South Carolina to win for HIMSELF, not McCain or anyone else. It didn’t work out, but the fact that he hasn’t endorsed McAmnesty is evidence he wasn’t working with him.
I will never, ever vote for Huckabee in any forum. If McCain even thinks about selecting this clown as his VP, there will be a massive campaign against them by conservatives, and they will lose in a landslide.
