Open thread: Cutting-edge format to showcase same old crappy questions
posted at 5:21 pm on February 2, 2008 by Allahpundit
6 p.m. ET: It’s MTV’s version of a YouTube debate, with Hillary, Huck, Obama, and young America’s favorite publisher of racist newsletters fielding kids’ queries to decide who shall be the hippest of them all. Maverick and Mitt, being neither liberal, funny, nor rEVOLutionary, evidently decided not to bother trying. You can watch the livestream here in case you have nothing better to do at dinnertime on a Saturday night and don’t mind sitting through the umpteenth iteration of Obama’s and Hillary’s health-care answers just to see if anyone gets an oddball question about what kind of underwear they have on or something.

Blowback

Just great Romney and McCain!
How can you appeal to the valuable bloc that is either too young or apathetic to vote if you don’t participate?!?
SouthernDem on February 2, 2008 at 5:38 PM
I get Ron Paul, but what is Huckaboo doing showing up at something like this.
At least Mac and the current incarnation of Romney know better.
JayHaw Phrenzie on February 2, 2008 at 5:39 PM
Romney and McVain have some sense. They didn’t show up.

Didn’t the very liberal McShamnesty actually do one of those MTV things before? Yes, yes he did.

@ JayHaw Phrenzie on February 2, 2008 at 5:39 PM
He probably wants to at least seem like he isnt an old person with no connection to the youth of the country. If a candidate can’t handle a question from a couple of kids, its fairly sad. That said, I hate MTV.

Neither Barack or Hillary is worth listening to.

I want to see Hillary get attacked, as young liberals are fairly hostile towards her.

Yes they are if you want to see what the dems are really offering.
Its nightmare on Pennslyvannia avenue With Hillarstein or Obamakruger.

Besides, which MTV still plays videos?
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on February 2, 2008 at 5:52 PM
i’m a young voter (23) and i don’t even know what channel mtv is. history and discovery are on 64 and 66, though. word.
locke on February 2, 2008 at 5:55 PM
Obama already has, or at least decriminalizing it.
JayHaw Phrenzie on February 2, 2008 at 5:56 PM
What kind of underwear they have on?
Hillary – long line, extra-reinforced girdle. Socks stuffed in bra.
Obama – thong
Just guessing.
whitetop on February 2, 2008 at 5:57 PM
I’m also in my 20s and haven’t watched MTV in a while. All the channel has on is those spoiled girls from The Hills. No thanks!
terryannonline on February 2, 2008 at 5:58 PM
Please, Obama will probably offer to subsidize pot farms.
If you vote for RuPaul or Barack, I’m sure we can find a way to fix the latter.

MTV and “serious debates” just does not compute.
That reminds me, is Diddy planning another “Vote or Die” campaign?
South Park’s parody of that remains hilarious, three years later.

Instant polling! How about instant voting – quick, vote, before you change your mind!
Dems/McCain would love it!
mksmithwriter on February 2, 2008 at 6:10 PM
I will say, though he was never my candidate, I loved Rudy’s speech in Florida when he talked about Ron Paul, “who won all the debates.” That was funny.
He told it like he was Woody Allen, but it was still funny.
Come to think of it, he should have stayed in – he could have participated in this electrifying debate!
emailnuevo on February 2, 2008 at 6:10 PM
@ malan89 on February 2, 2008 at 6:08 PM
I doubt it. If the Paul supporters, me included, were spamming the poll, it would have been a lot more against huckabee. Its just that its a bunch of young people on myspace.

USA Today
Romney ahead in early Maine count
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Mitt Romney took an early lead in presidential preference voting by Maine Republicans as the first returns were counted Saturday from the party’s municipal caucuses, which GOP officials said were heavily attended across the state.
Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, had 59% of the vote with 3% of the towns holding caucuses reporting. Ron Paul trailed with 19%, John McCain had 18%, and Mike Huckabee and undecided votes each had about 2%.
The non-binding votes, the first step toward electing 18 Maine delegates to the Republican National Convention, were taking place in public schools, Grange halls, fire stations and town halls across the state.
Despite a sleet storm the night before that left much of the state coated with slush and ice, cars jammed the parking lot outside an Augusta elementary school where Kennebec County municipalities were caucusing.

I still say Paul supporters have to go through EVOLution before they can start talking about rEVOLution.
William Amos on February 2, 2008 at 6:30 PM
Dude, it’s rEVOLution.
If you spell “EVOL” backwards it comes out “LOVE”. Thus the whole “love revolution” thing. You’d think that a Paul supporter would know that.
