Horror: Terrorists used mentally disabled women in Baghdad mass homicide

There are differing accounts on how many were killed that Baghdad attack today, but CNN reports an unspeakably awful and cruel aspect to the attack: The terrorists use remotely-triggered bomb vests that they had put on mentally disabled women, one of whom suffered from Down Syndrome. They were unwitting and unwilling bomb carriers.
The bombs killed at least 98 people and wounded more than 200 at two popular pet markets on the holiest day of the week for Muslims, authorities said.
In both bombings, the attackers were mentally disabled women whose explosive belts were remotely detonated, Gen. Qasim Atta, spokesman for Baghdad’s security plan, told state television.
An aide to Atta said that people referred to the bomber at central Baghdad’s al-Ghazl market as the “crazy woman” and that the bomber at a second market had an unspecified birth disability.
“Demonic” is right.
“By targeting innocent Iraqis, they show their true demonic character,” said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, spokesman for the Multi-National Division-Baghdad.
“They care nothing for the Iraqi people; they want to subjugate them and forcefully create a greater Islamic sharia state,” he said, referring to Islamic law.
The use of mentally disabled bomb carriers isn’t new; it’s happened before in Iraq. The use of women in these attacks isn’t new either, nor is detonating the bombs against the carrier’s will. In Chechen Jihad, Yousef Bodansky reports on the Beslan massacre in much detail. According to Bodansky, there were several Black Widow terrorists involved, and after an accidental explosion might free hundreds of the child hostages being held inside that school, the Black Widows refused orders from their male counterparts to shoot the fleeing children. The Black Widows were wearing bomb vests, and the male terrorists responded to the refusal to shoot the children by detonating those bomb vests. That of course killed the Widows and everyone near them. I have no sympathy for the Black Widow terrorists, but I bring all of this up to point out the true brutality at work in the jihad. It’s ghastly.
I also bring all of this up in the hope that liberal readers might finally extract their craniums from their backsides and realize that whatever you think of Bush, he’s not the problem. He didn’t start the war and he’s not the cause of the jihad. Animals of the type who would blow up innocent mentally disabled women to kill scores of other innocent people cannot be reasoned with. There’s nothing to talk over with people like that. They live in a state of violent depravity that puts them beyond reason barring some massive change in their own minds. We infidels aren’t going to make that chance by playing nice. We have to defeat them.

So the Terrorists are using not so smart bombs?

That was MY joke. Jihad is what Jihad does.

Dude. That’s not funny. I think this is chilling. I weep for those women and the other victims of the bomb attack.

I would accept that except with that temper of his comes his disregard of the rest of conservative ideals. You know, things like lower taxes, free speech, secure boarders, all those little issues.
When he finally realizes that an elected official doesn’t know more about the economy than the people who are working in the economy, then, perhaps I’ll support him.

Animals. Evil would imply they have some capability of moral reasoning. They’re animals. I think I’m going to be sick.

If we pull out of Iraq they will move in and use their entire population to wage Jihad. 9/11 will look like a test run compared to that.

But… Code Pink told me that the US Marines are the degenerate animals. Aren’t these just freedom fighters, normal people in abnormal circumstances? If only the Marines stopped eliminating the able-bodied foreign jihadists, these heroic minutemen wouldn’t have to resort to this!
(I use sarcasm to deal with such unspeakable horror.)

We’ve known that this is what they do for how long? Wasn’t it last year that Hamas told a little boy that if he approached the Israeli soldiers, and pulled the string, candy and presents would burst from his chest? We’ve known that the Terrorists are lying cowards. They specifically target those young enough to be gullible, or impaired enough to be influenced.
If instead of Run Forrest, Run, someone had shouted attack them Forrest, attack, the movie would have been much shorter. It’s a sad truth, that these types who use the dummies are the real bad guys. It’s happening all the time, and the victims are the not so smart bombs. Tacky, yes. But is it true? Yes again.
Snake307 on February 1, 2008 at 2:19 PM
Unless of course we need to use enhanced interrogation techniques on these same people in order to protect American families. In that case John finds it completely inappropriate. Wouldn’t want to make these fine, upstanding citizens uncomfortable, would we?
Agreed. We’re discussing an act of terror by sick@ss jihadists using mentally disabled innocent civilians. Not the place for jokes.
amerpundit on February 1, 2008 at 2:19 PM
We can always submit and it will all go away.
tommylotto on February 1, 2008 at 2:20 PM
Now watch the media spin this attack into a great victory over the surge. The mainstream media encourages and enables these attacks to be ’successful’ to the extent they are. Compare their reporting to Americans hitting civilians by accident and you’ll see what I mean.
Laws of war are for Americans… only.

I’m going with Evil. Animals would imply they can opt out of their misdeeds because death, murder, and slaughter is their instinct.
No, these people are evil. They didn’t just happen to strap on highly explosive technology to the unwilling and incapacitated, they did it with the intention to kill, slaughter, and maim as many people as possible.
BKennedy on February 1, 2008 at 2:25 PM
Disgusting. And I don’t mean this in a flip or derrogatory way but maybe this means regular Iraqi’s are hard to come by for this sort of thing?
Geronimo on February 1, 2008 at 2:25 PM
They wire up women, they wire up children, they wire up the mentally disabled, and they’ve probably wired up pets and animals. All to cause mayhem in the name of their warped view of religion.
These are not civilized people – h3ll, they’re barely human by many definitions.
They’re coming – sooner or later these things will be happening in the US. Regardless of what we do on other aspects of immigration, BORDER SECURITY has to be one of our top priorities.

I’ve been mulling this over for the last few days…thinking about that “Grizzly Man” who died (along with his girlfriend) while living with the grizzly bears. It seems like it’s a glaring example of those on the left who believe that if we’re just nice to Islamists, or if they get to know us, or if we feed them, clothe them, give them $, they’ll leave us alone. This Grizzly Man truly believed that he had crossed over some barrier and the bears would be his friend.
I whole-heartedly disagree that those who do something like strap bombs on babies or mentally disabled women are animals. They are humans who’ve made the moral choice to live the evil that they are consumed by, so that’s where my analogy breaks down, but if liberals think that just because they hate GWB that the jihadists won’t cut their heads off, they’re just as deluded as the Grizzly Man was. They don’t recognize danger when they’re exposed to it, and I can only hope that hearing about this will make some of them think twice that America (or GWB, or the American soldier) is the bad guy here.
Sickening…but unfortunately predictable. They value death, and we as a nation, indeed as civilization value life. You can bet that if someone had been tipped off that a mentally disabled person was being wired with a bomb, and one of our soldiers had shot them first, it would be all over Al-Jazeera and every other Islamist website and we would be wholly denounced.

I believe Obama said in the debate last night, he will withdraw U.S. troops forthwith. Hillary said 60 days. I guess then the terrorists won’t have to use suicide bombers over there anymore and all will be well. Sounds like a plan. Except, they didn’t say what they would do when the jihadists start doing shopping malls and schools here, using mentally handicapped Americans.

I think Jazeera left out some details
Al jazeera’s spin
Hoda Abdel Hamid, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Baghdad, said that the US and the Iraqi government were facing one of their sternest tests yet.
“There is so much security on the streets [of Baghdad]. Every single neighbourhood is guarded by blast walls. There has been practically a vehicle ban and curfew here for the past two years.
“As they lift these very stringent security measures, the attacks come back, in the soft spots of the town.”
Abdel Hamid said that an increasing poroprtion of suicide bomb attackers were women, especially in Baghdad and in the province of Diyala, which lies northeast of the capital.
“One of the reasons for that is because it is mainly men who get thoroughly checked when they enter crowded areas – whether it is a market or buildings,” she said.
William Amos on February 1, 2008 at 2:32 PM
And some will actually use this as evidence that we shouldn’t be fighting these people…
Jim Treacher on February 1, 2008 at 2:33 PM
This is no surprise. Islamic jihadists are sociopaths. They have no sympathy, no empathy. Their only goal is to murder for their Sharia utopia.
To call them “animals” is an insult to animals.
Yes, indeed, the road to hell is wide.
OhEssYouCowboys on February 1, 2008 at 2:33 PM
What, happened so much you’ve become immune to the horror of it? Children are innocent and naieve, would you put them in your “not so smart bombs” category? Tacky, definitely. The only truth you’re showing is your idiocy.

Really? I’d much rather have soldiers like Generals Petraeus and Wallace, who have actually fought against this brand of Islamic barbarism, calling the shots rather than a 27-year retired naval captain, even a decorated one.
Frankly, a person with as volatile a temper as McCain has is rarely the person you want making strategic decisions. Vigor, valour, and passion are fine attributes for the soldier on the ground, but an absolute handicap in the strategy room. War is not a battle of passions and temper; it is the dispassionate and systematic application of political force on an unwilling adversary.
Given his war-heavy rhetoric and the casual way he tramples Constitutional liberties, McCain strikes me as far less a candidate for the top Executive in the country and more for the role of military dictator.
Romney may lack McCain’s military experience, but he MORE than makes up for it in his demonstrated executive expertise. A good executive always knows his own weaknesses and surrounds himself with experts on those areas.
Harpazo on February 1, 2008 at 2:40 PM
It was tactics like this that led to the Sunni sheiks in al Anbar to reject AQ. Let’s hope this incident provides a catalyst for good and decent Muslims to strengthen their resolve against militant jihad.
My heartfelt sympathy for the families of these women. Sounds like they had no idea what they were being used for, and their nationalities and identities have not been released. I wonder if they were abductees as well as…this.
RushBaby on February 1, 2008 at 2:41 PM
If for no other reason, I would want to see McCain elected just to send a message to these animals. It would tell them that despite all their efforts to break the collective will of this country through their brutality, America still elected the biggest hawk it could find to keep the fight up against them.
Dudley Smith on February 1, 2008 at 2:41 PM
I’m sure I’m repeating what’s been said here, but that is absolutely horrific. We have repeatedly seen the actions of the enemy, yet so many insist that global warming is the bigger threat or George Bush, or the American Military, or Israel.
Terrorists do not think we are people. They want to kill all of us if we do not submit. They will continue to terrorize anyone they choose to. The only thing they understand is fighting back. I wish we could negotiate with them, but it’s quite obvious that we can’t.

OhEssYouCowboys on February 1, 2008 at 2:53 PM
Death, murder and slaughter is their instinct, not that it exculpates them from their depraved actions. I won’t put up much of a protest if you want to call them evil, though. It’s close enough. Just as long as we agree that what’s called for here is an extermination; there’s no hope of rehabilitation.

RushBaby on February 1, 2008 at 2:58 PM
Right on. In fact, I suspect one of McCain’s major flaws as CiC would be his supreme confidence in his own abilities as a military commander, hence even more meddling in the day to day operations than would be helpful.
On the issue of joking about the intelligence of suicide bombers, I might note that the leader of the 9-11 group had a masters degree. Some of them are ideologically driven, and some, like these poor women, are victims of that same Islamic ideology. I even imagine some of the terrorists also joked about it. If the shoe fits,…

Well, I’ve been mulling the prospect of not voting, or even voting for a dhimmicrat, as a protest against the decidedly questionable committment to even a few conservative principles of the apparent front runner for the Republicans. Stories like this make it no contest.
If a dhimmicrat is voted in we will pull out of Iraq before the first term is over, and it will decend into chaos, most likely. Our stature will fall, AQ will have a base of operations and from there will infiltrate our borders and begin doing things like this. And, no doubt, would love to pull off a Beslan-like operation.
I know that Hillary and Obama would bend over backwards into a traditional left wing appeasement posture. McCain, well, he might acutally stand up to them.
Leonidas Hoplite on February 1, 2008 at 3:01 PM
This shows two things, that the jihadis are the worst humanity has to offer, which most of us knew already, but I think it also shows how desperate they are. This isn’t gonna endear them to anyone but other hardcore jihadists, and the whole point of terrorism/guerilla warfare is to act in ways that will win local approval.
doubleplusundead on February 1, 2008 at 3:02 PM
OK, let me get this straight. The animals in question strapped bombs to two mentally handicapped women, which of course if they weren’t being used as a bomber would be treated as property, and I’m the bad guy for making a joke? I should feel the horror and act through my intellect? Friend, I’ve been calling on our troops to dip their bullets in ham for a long time, and further to publicize the action. The only things cowards like that respect is force and fear. If they are afraid of you, they stay away from you, and leave you alone.
Instead we tell our Military that they can’t use ammunition manufactured in Israel because it might make our enemy angry. Oh, well we wouldn’t want them angry at us, that might make things worse.
We’re trying to win the hearts of the heartless, the minds of the brainwashed to hate us. We know they are cowards, otherwise Osama would have been on the 9-11 planes. If you think I am the real bad guy over a joke, then you’re a Dem alright. Because it’s that mentality that blames George Bush for the war in the first place.
Friends, when you come to the conclusion that you can’t negotiate with this, you can’t try and educate that mindset, then you’ll be ready to win the war on terror. Until then, feel the outrage at my jokes.

We have been spared so far by Pres. Bush’s initial good work against these Islamist scum suckers, but with Pres Bush’s reversion to the James Baker // Brent Srowcroft policy of treating the Islamists as potential business partners rather than evil incarnate, which is what they are, we will be seeing a great deal more this.
Clearly, with his total surrender to Fatah and Hamas, and with his surrender to Iran on nuclear weapons, Bush has lost his stomach for fighting the war that was declared against us and unless we get a new pres in their soon that will redouble our efforts at killing every single one of these bastards, we will see it here and even worse
georgealbert on February 1, 2008 at 3:09 PM
One in the same, my friend, one in the same. Unless of course, sponsoring terrorism in Israel doesn’t count. Then perhaps you’d like to explain to Israelis that they aren’t people.
The War on Terror is a nebulous thing. It isn’t, look there’s Hitler, let’s fight Germans! It’s, look there are some Islamic terrorists from any and all nations, um, where do we start? We start with the sponsors because without the cash flow, there isn’t terrorists. Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc, etc.
This war is going to take a long time and will be a messy thing, but if you’re not willing to fight now, you’ll never be ready. Even if another 9/11 happens.

I think that most in American and other civilized countries as well, will never really grasp the hatred, viciousness and pure evil of the terrorists. The handwriting was on the wall when Jorge Boosh let Iraq and Afghanistan have EE-Slom in their constitutions. Secularization and freedom of religion was in order. Ataturk must’ve broken some eggs, yet Turkey suffers creeping Islamification. It’s time to realize that the difference between a Muslim and a jihadist is the difference between a beta and alpha male. Jihad is integral to their ideology. Go ahead Bush II, keep importing the ummah.

Come on, dude, do you actually have anything to back up your assumptions? No, you don’t.
Read any old history of the twentieth century and discover yourself where the funding for terrorism comes from. You seem to believe that the US is always on the side of the angels.
Yes, Saddam funded terrorism and we’ve funded Saddam. And, to take just one of the present and numerous hypocritical blunders, now we fund Sunni insurgents so that they will step down in their war against our men and women! Fancy that.
The war on terrorism is indeed a nebulous thing. So, do we destroy a quarter of the planet so as to guarantee that we get a few good shots off? Apparently so by the looks of this thread.
Used to be a patriot carried an element of suspicion of the state. Not any longer.

There are few, if any, Hot Air members who would disagree significantly with the majority of your statement; however, the object of your joke was not the terrorists, but the mentally disabled women they murdered and used as murder weapons. Such joking smacks of moral callousness.

Very astute observation.

I watched Minute Men with my childen this past weekend and we asked each other where we would go if we could time travel. Originally, I said that I would like to go back in time to meet Jesus. Today, I would go back to Mohammed’s time and kill his sick ass before he started that sick, violent

Yeah, so?

Yeah, I’ve always saved the “Not-So-Smart-Bomb” description for those that willingly and knowingly blow themselves up.

Clearly Ron Paul can solve all our problems by retreating from everywhere. No more funding for allies! No more funding for enemies! No more having any positive impact on anywhere at all!
Reality is a stubborn thing, but Ron Paul is more stubborn!
RON PAUL ‘08!
REALISM IS NOT AN OPTION!

One thing to think about…as time goes on, these depraved tactics get more and more publicized. Slowly, slowly, even the sheep get it. That these guys are bad. It took the Iraqi Sunnis a while to get it. They finally did — and they are going to hate these guys forever. It will take the left leaning sheep in the EU and the USA a while to really get it. But eventually they will also. (Not the Leftists — they secretly dig it.)

Bryan’s right, of course, regarding the gallows humor. But let’s go easy on our fellow travelers here; either you laugh or you cry at these subhuman maggots in Al Qaeda.

Oops. Screwed the quotes thing up. Don’t mean to suggest that BKennedy would ever think similarly as I.

This will stop happening once we leave.
