Coulter: No, I’m not kidding about voting for Hillary over McCain

“He has no honor.” Quote:
In March 1968, McCain was put into solitary confinement, where he would be for two years. In July 1968, McCain’s father was named Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Command (CINCPAC), stationed in Honolulu and commander of all U.S. forces in the Vietnam theater. McCain was immediately offered a chance to return home early: the North Vietnamese wanted a mercy-showing propaganda coup for the outside world, and a message that only privilege mattered that they could use against the other POWs. McCain turned down the offer of repatriation due to the Code of Conduct of “first in, first out”: he would only accept the offer if every man taken in before him was released as well. McCain’s refusal to be released was even remarked upon by North Vietnamese officials to U.S. envoy Averell Harriman at the ongoing Paris Peace Talks.
And so it’s McCain, not Huckabee, who precipitates the long-awaited conservative crack-up. Man, did Patrick Ruffini pick the wrong year for this project.
Update: AC evidently prefers “a Presidency that would get rolled quicker than you can say Jimmy Carter.”
Update: McCain Derangement Syndrome?

So what if he is if he’s shooting at the wrong target? He beats up on Conservatives more then his “friends” on the Dem side of the aisle. Straight talk means nothing if his policies are at odds with a conservative agenda.

It really is disgusting when you think about it. Most of the people who are advocating we vote for this man, are the same people who have spent the last two years calling the man a traitor, and ranting that he’s the ultimate enemy.
Now you’re all ready and willing to reward him by making him President of the U.S.
Morons!
Gregor on February 1, 2008 at 6:06 PM
I don’t always agree with Ann, but she’s absolutely correct on this. Al Qaeda can’t destroy America. They can only launch terrorist attacks that we will always overcome. McCain sought amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants. His actions very well could destroy America. The only way America will ever cease being the most powerful nation on Earth and a fighter for personal liberty of every person on the planet is if it is destroyed from the inside. Likewise, the GOP is helping to kill conservatism. They supported Bush’s amnesty plan. Strike one. The are pushing a McCain nomination. Strike two. I predict that this year conservatives will leave the GOP in droves…and possible never come back. It amazes me how AP and others in the media think that conservatives will eventually come around. Many of us won’t. The best way in my opinion to get some attention is to take some drastic measures. If McCain is the nominee, I hope all conservatives will get behind the Dem nominee (but Republicans in Congress). I want the Republican elite who shoved McCain down our throats to have a very rude awakening. They cannot get away with spiting in our faces over and over again. I will laugh when million and millions of conservatives don’t get behind McCain and all the pundits wonder why their plan didn’t work. McCain is not a hero in any way. He is a disgrace to this nation! And before you fake conservatives get all worked up, I served in OIF. I say again, McCain is a disgrace to our nation!
davenp35 on February 1, 2008 at 6:06 PM
This is really smart of Ann. If the mainstream media picks this up (imagine the headlines) then everyone gets to hear her rant. Its a good way to get the word out to people NOT watching fox news or listening to talk radio.

I really don’t understand why people such as Allahpundit and John Hawkins seem to think we’re all “just joking” when we say we’ll be voting for Hillary or sitting out.
I still can’t fathom this logic.
So, to be spiteful over the fact that you, and your fellow conservative voters, failed to do what was necessary to prevent McCain’s victory - and that is, to say, forming a consensus on a “true conservative” candidate and making sure HE got the nomination - you’re going to refuse to vote for a man who you disagree with on most issues (but do agree with him on some, such as abortion and the war), in favor of a man (Obama) or woman (Hillary) who’s basically diametrically opposed to your beliefs on ALL of the issues?
It strikes me as inherently foolish logic full of the same childish arrogance you attribute to McCain. I’d frankly request that should Hillary or Obama get elected, it is you and yours who refrain from complaining about whatever they do in office, because it will have been your contribution to their cause that made it happen.

Anyone else noticed the historical parallel this all has to the early 20th century civil war among Republican conservatives and progressives?

And frankly I’m sick of the term “maverick”. It ia almost a term of endearment. How about, in terms of the conservative agenda, we use traitor instead? His “maverickness” has caused the GOP more problems than many of the most Liberal Dems.

As someone who hopes to become a McCain convert, I wish you McCain supporters would start explaining this global warming thing that you want me to believe in. Is this the same thing as that Gore movie?
Convince me that we should legalize countless millions of poor illegal aliens and bring their poor families here while at the same time eliminating the kinds of jobs that these people would be employed in by cutting co2 emissions. The basic math for that seems to show we’ll have a big problem if we go through with this plan.
But I’m willing to listen to arguments in favor of McCain’s global warming amnesty plan for our economy, if his supporters are willing to enlighten me.
Buddahpundit on February 1, 2008 at 6:09 PM

I’m so mad! I’m gonna vote for Obama or Hillary to teach my Party a lesson they’ll never forget! And after four years of a Liberal Dem ruining our economy, retreating from Iraq, appointing revisionist judges, and socializing healthcare, I’ll be able to say, “Don’t blame me, I voted for… uh… nevermind.”
CliffHanger on February 1, 2008 at 6:13 PM

NDConservative on February 1, 2008 at 6:13 PM
The Supreme Court nominees that Hillary would put forth would make Ruth Bater Ginsberg look conservative. We need conservatives on the bench and who do you think will do that Hillary or McCain. Hillary and Bill and their minions must really be enjoying the divisions on the right, we are playing right into their hands. Um..oh wait McShamanisty blah, blah, blah. What do you think the Dems will do if they win, Hillary stated in the last debat that she does not want illegals to have drivers licenses because it will make it easier for them to get caught.
Tobias2012 on February 1, 2008 at 6:13 PM
Why do you think either one of them really cares.
Why would they NOT want Hillary elected? They stand to make a substantial amount of money doing what they’ve been doing for years now if she gets the win. It’s like a comic act - they’ll have 4 years, at least, of fresh material to feed to the rest of you.
Vyce on February 1, 2008 at 6:13 PM
You guys who support McCain seem to think he will actually stay conservative on the few things people do agree with him on…why should anyone believe that when he is after all a “maverick”?
EnochCain on February 1, 2008 at 6:15 PM
I agree with the other posters who said they weren’t kidding either… and the fact that we told you MONTHS ago that we wouldn’t support a RINO. Hillary, John, whateh. Go ahead and get freaked out now that a significant bloc of former Republican voters will either sit out, write in someone else, or - horrors - put a check by Hillary. And go ahead and wallow in your sanctimony and vitriol to try to sway us (yeah, that oughta work). See how much comfort that gives you in the next 4-8 years (I’m gonna go ahead and guess precious little).

Personally, I agree with her.
Janna on February 1, 2008 at 6:17 PM
I’ve never called him a traitor. And I wouldn’t support him if there were any other choice. Any other GOP choice, I should say.
There isn’t. Mitt’s about done and you all know it. The air of inevitability is in the air.
Gauging from some of the comments in this thread, though, and based upon Ann’s remarks, I can just forsee it coming that, before long, there’ll be efforts to attack McCain’s military service, something which is admirable about him even if you loathe him for his politics. It’ll be interesting, and rather depressing, to see him get Swiftboated not by the other side, but by his own party.
Vyce on February 1, 2008 at 6:17 PM
What happens if McCain wins the Presidency and then decides he’s had enough of the GOP and leaves the Party? What happens if he pushes amnesty, effectively destroying America much faster than any terrorist group ever could?
davenp35 on February 1, 2008 at 6:17 PM
If you define “cognitive” as “foolishly and weakly willing to give up your principles and values to elect a liberal with an R after his name”… Then yeah, I’ll take “reactionary” because you seem to see that as the opposite.
I have very coherent thoughts on the subject of John McCain. I know his 25 year history in Congress, and I know how many times and to what degree he back-stabbed the R party. I’m not going to give up my Conservative principles to hand over the presidency to someone who would be no different on many liberal issues - including ones that are VERY important to me - to from the Democrats. If we’re going to have a Liberal, I’d rather it be a Dem. Then they will be blamed for the liberal crap that fails, and we will have a shot at the presidency in 4 years. If it’s McCain, it will be decades before we get it back because R’s will be blamed for the idiotic liberal policies.
But don’t you DARE for a minute tell me that my decisions are based on only emotions. They are well thought out, and are based on a much bigger picture than most of you are examining. You guys are about winning at all costs. I’m about winning the war of ideas, not just the piddly battle for the presidency. We lived through Clinton 1, we’ll live through Clinton 2 - if that is the course.
tickleddragon on February 1, 2008 at 6:17 PM
McCain will be a “conservative” right up to the day he’s sworn in. I wouldn’t put it past him to switch parties. He will do nothing he’s promised to do such as appoint conservative SCJ’s. Especially he is in this for only a single term like I think he is. If he isn’t interested in or up to two terms he doesn’t need Conservatives for anything after he wins the election.

John McCain has NEVER been a conservative.
Gregor on February 1, 2008 at 6:20 PM
If I may make an imperfect analogy, traditional conservatives may feel the same about the GOP as black people should feel about the Democrats. Used. The vote, money, and volunteer work are welcome but the values aren’t. Going along just to get along hasn’t worked, and it’ll only get worse if lightning strikes twice and McCain wins the general, because he’ll control the party apparatus. Not a winning combination for conservative values ever carrying much weight in the GOP, IMO.

I agree - McCain supporters aren’t, in my opinion, long term strategic thinkers. Winning in ‘08 only to be set up for decades in the wilderness seems foolish. I honestly believe that losing with McCain as the nominee sets the GOP for another long period of domination while McCain winning does the opposite. Think beyond ‘08.
DerKrieger on February 1, 2008 at 6:21 PM
If you read further in the wikipedia entry, it does state that he eventually ended up being BROKEN and signing a false confession of war crimes. not exactly Stockdale.
plus, he finished 5th to last in his class at the Naval Acad. But dad and granddad were admirals so he got to fly anyway. And then he crashed four (or was it five, I forget?) jets in roughly 23 hours of flight time. big surprise he ended up a POW with flight skills like that.
I think AC had a point when she mentioned that at least HRC isn’t stupid enough to realize when she’s been caught in a lie. McCain might actually be in the Joe Biden territory of Senate Stupidity, which is saying something.

DerKrieger on February 1, 2008 at 6:24 PM
Precisely. It’s like Global Warmers…they think they see the bigger picture because they look at 100 years worth of data for a trend. That is not the bigger picture, because the life cycle of the Earth is much much much longer than 100 years.
The bigger picture here, folks, is not the presidency in 08…it’s the continued march of Conservatism to the domination of American politics. The goal is much bigger than a 4 year presidency. If you can’t see beyond that, you’re useless to all of us.

It’s astonishing how far left some of our commenters are willing to see this country go, just to make their point. It really is akin to Dems hoping for defeat in Iraq to drive home their point that we shouldn’t have gone there in the first place.

Wrong. You’re missing the point. This isn’t about letting the Dems win to prove a point but rather to advance the conservative agenda. I have no point to make at all. McCain, through his policies, will damage the GOP and Conservative brands and keep us out of the Oval Office for a long time. However, if Hillary wins she will have the opposite effect and allow us to reclaim not only the WH but also Congress and the Senate.

She did make one good point in all that, however: Republicans will rally against Clinton, but they won’t rally against McCain. This is exactly what I’ve been saying. Though I can’t in good conscience vote for any of the four frontrunners, at least with Clinton/Obama the opposition will be clear and well-marked. The tragedy of Bush’s legacy is that it split Republicans. Even now there are people standing behind him and approving of the job he’s doing.
Mark Jaquith on February 1, 2008 at 6:32 PM
No one can realistically say that is an emotional decision. I follow what you are saying. I would go so far as to say it’s one of life’s great questions. Which is better: to live on one’s knees, or to die on one’s feet? Which has more sting: to lose to one’s enemies or to be betrayed by one’s friends? In fact it leads to what I suspect is Shakespeare’s most famous quote. I follow your meaning.

The supreme court justices that Hillary will appoint will last for generations, the impact of her socialized programs on our health care could cost you or a loved one their life while waiting in some clinic for medical attention, her government induced economic programs will shut down business and increase taxes to the point of people losing their jobs and homes, her pandering to the left’s views on the war on terror will embolden the enemies of America. These are long term and short effects that we should be concerned about.

Totally agree. She gave Baldwin lots of guano about not moving to Canada after GWB was elected, didn’t she?

If Romney is as smart as most assume he is, he should drop out now before he gets really embarassed super duper teusday. There might be another shot in 2016 and republicans ususally give it to the guy next in line.

Everyone in congress has to work with the Democrats. McCain is the only one who favors them over his own party.

You just don’t get it, do you. It’s your attitude that is causing the problem.
First: Those responsible for a Hillary presidency will be those propping up looney-tuney McCain, and accepting that his brand of non-conservatism is better than nothing. Well, we don’t agree with that logic. It will be those of you who are making his ill-gotten and really quite bizarre candidacy possible, who will be responsible for whatever Hillary or Barack end up doing . . . if YOU don’t come to your senses and jettison Mavijerk.
Second: Those of us who agree with Ann’s position, feel that there are more important things than simply accepting any old wretch who we’ve been fooled into thinking can beat Hillathing. If you or McCain think that he really does have some broad-based support, i.e., moderates (morons), centrists (morons), or democrats, … you are sooooo wrong.

A smart, brash, confident conservative woman in a little black dress. Exactly what is it you people don’t get about this?

If people out there are willing to vote for mccain because of judges, what was the gang of 14 about? His best freind is warren rudman who gave the country david souter.
mccain is the manchurian candidate and the chinese and vietnamese are rolling on the floor laughing.

You have the worst taste in women in the history of western civilization. Put a bag on her head, turn off the lights, a bottle of Jack, being in prison for seven years, maybe.
