Coulter: No, I’m not kidding about voting for Hillary over McCain

“He has no honor.” Quote:
In March 1968, McCain was put into solitary confinement, where he would be for two years. In July 1968, McCain’s father was named Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Command (CINCPAC), stationed in Honolulu and commander of all U.S. forces in the Vietnam theater. McCain was immediately offered a chance to return home early: the North Vietnamese wanted a mercy-showing propaganda coup for the outside world, and a message that only privilege mattered that they could use against the other POWs. McCain turned down the offer of repatriation due to the Code of Conduct of “first in, first out”: he would only accept the offer if every man taken in before him was released as well. McCain’s refusal to be released was even remarked upon by North Vietnamese officials to U.S. envoy Averell Harriman at the ongoing Paris Peace Talks.
And so it’s McCain, not Huckabee, who precipitates the long-awaited conservative crack-up. Man, did Patrick Ruffini pick the wrong year for this project.
Update: AC evidently prefers “a Presidency that would get rolled quicker than you can say Jimmy Carter.”
Update: McCain Derangement Syndrome?

I am getting rather tired of Anns antics. I still think she is hot, but she is resorted to having to make outrageous statements as a means for attention to get a point across.
firepilot on February 1, 2008 at 5:15 PM
Of course she wasn’t kidding . . . she is the epitome of a “right wing nut” and such proclamations are expected from her . . . and quite frankly, she’s not fit to carry McCain’s water.

I really don’t understand why people such as Allahpundit and John Hawkins seem to think we’re all “just joking” when we say we’ll be voting for Hillary or sitting out.
If John McCain becomes President of this country, I’ll be able to say that I had absolutely NOTHING to do with it. And yes, I’d rather have Hillary. By far.
Good luck to those of you who voted for him, and please don’t bother typing a single whining comment about ANYTHING he does from here on out. You deserve it.
Gregor on February 1, 2008 at 5:18 PM
I couldn’t care less what Coulter thinks, or who she’s going to vote for. As much as I love how she pisses off the Communists – she’s a self-serving, quasi-sociopath.
Ann, Hon – I don’t give a rat’s ass who you intend to vote for.
OhEssYouCowboys on February 1, 2008 at 5:18 PM
John McCain is not my first choice. Far from it. There are a lot of things I disagree with him on, and quite strongly. However, I disagree with Hillary and Obama on even more, and on some mighty important things (such as Iraq). If my choice is McCain or Hillary, I’d gladly take the lumps of a McCain presidency over the horrors of another Clinton one.
smithinmich on February 1, 2008 at 5:20 PM
Let’s see…McCain is in favor of amnesty for 12 million illegal aliens, against tax cuts, for raising taxes, against waterboarding, in favor of assault weapons bans(depending on the parameters), against drilling in ANWR, and supports the stifling of free speech if an election is nigh. All of this while rubbing elbows with Russ Feingold and Ted Kennedy, and it’s all coming from a vindictive guy who votes depending on whether the person pushing them through beat him for the nomination.
Yep…gotta be some kind of right wing nut to not want to see the next republican presidency be responsible for all that.

billy on February 1, 2008 at 5:28 PM
So Ann doesn’t care about Judges, abortion, the war on terror, winning in Iraq, taxes or controlling the budget/cutting pork. All things that McCain would be thousands of times better then Hillary. Does Ann remember Hillary saying that she would have to instate “the willing suspension of disbelief” in order to trust Gen. Petraeus. Does she want this woman as commander in chief? The MDS is really reaching terrifying levels. Hopefully, after a couple of weeks when McCain wins the nomination people will grow up and come their senses.
Complete7 on February 1, 2008 at 5:29 PM
Ann’s only useful insofar as she makes leftists have fits and tics. She’s the master of grabbing headlines and annoying ‘progressives.’
Beagle on February 1, 2008 at 5:29 PM
Look, McCain turning down a chance to go home is the bravest act I’ve ever heard. Ann is out of line by saying he has no honor, but I would caution people not to fall into a trap. For many, John McCain is now the Max Cleland of the Republican Party. Cleland lost his limbs in the Vietnam War and thus, any and all criticism toward the man and the way he voted in the U.S. Senate was deemed unforgivable.
It’s a little thing the Dems call absolute moral authority. Remember when the feminists said Clinton can diddle interns all he wants as long as he keeps abortion legal? This is where we’re at now. Many want to give John McCain the authority to do whatever he likes with zero criticism and if you do criticize him, you’re labeled as deranged.
These are scary times.

Ann will say anything to get on TV. Great sound bait(bite) from Ann
jero_jones on February 1, 2008 at 5:30 PM
Can we coin the phrase “Reactionary Conservatives”, to which Ann Coulter can be your spokesperson, to distinguish between those who are motivated by emotion vs those conservatives who are motivated by a thought process?
CliffHanger on February 1, 2008 at 5:30 PM
McCain is a non-starter. Better that the libs win and we broom them out in 4 years. The nation will survive. If McCain gets in it will be the death knell of conservatism for 8-12 years, in the end, he isn’t worth that and he has shown no loyalty to us, why should we reward him?
echosyst on February 1, 2008 at 5:31 PM
Allah, you aren’t playing the absolute moral authority card are you?
Dude.
ultraloser on February 1, 2008 at 5:31 PM
Coulter’s just telling it like it is. McCain has far more in common with democrats and Clinton, than he does his supposed base. Voting for him would essentially be a vote for her. At least if she wins the Republicans can legitimately fight and oppose her, vs fighting a Republican President.
darwin on February 1, 2008 at 5:31 PM
Ann offers strong analysis as she usually does. If you people who want to turn conservatism into a cult don’t want Ann, if you think she’s an embarrassment, I’d be delighted for Ann to become a defiant RINO like me.
And as a defiant RINO, if we’re going to have a president who supports amnesty and who isn’t serious about the war Islam has declared on us, then I prefer a Democrat to pick a couple of SC judges.
On the other hand, to be fair to McCain, I do like McCain’s emphasis on cutting federal spending. I’d rather cut federal spending than cut taxes. Over the long run, cutting spending–not cutting taxes–is the only way to actual lower taxes. Look up Richardian equivalence in wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricardian_equivalence
thuja on February 1, 2008 at 5:31 PM
Now we have the answer to the question “what would it take to get AP to board the Straight Talk Express?”
Not that I’m defending Ann on this one; my animus towards McCain would still never make me actually cast a vote towards Hillary or Obama, or to 99% of the other Dems (however, if Zell Miller was their nominee, all bets are off).

Yeah ok Ann. I’ll vote for him twice now, how’s that grab you? Then you can rail about me being a dirty liberal and everything else. No honor. Please. If someone said that about any other war hero you’d call them a traitor.
Dash on February 1, 2008 at 5:33 PM
I would be more tempted to follow this type of thinking, if the Dems didn’t control Congress which would make Hillary/Obama much more powerful than with a divided govt.
I also think we live in a world changing so fast and so complicated that its insane to just bow down and let them run Foreign Policy and the War on Terror on the national level. Remember, they think 9/11 was a crime and not an act of war. and that our courts should handle the matter.
with McCain, you still have the “Audacity of Hope” alive. No telling what he might actually do as President, could suprise us.
AND, who says just because you vote for him, means you have to publicly support and defend the guy when he’s President against the Dem attacks? If we all stand up and refuse to support him and are silent on it, it may well force the guy to be conservative!

Dear Allahpundit,
I could, of course, be wrong, but I don’t think she was referring to his Viet Nam service. Maybe she was thinking about him backstabbing the POWs who didn’t come back once he’d made it home so he could kick out his first wife and marry into money. Hmmm… Or maybe she was thinking about him slandering the Swift Boat vets in order to protect his pal, John “in a manner reminiscent of Genghis Khan” Kerry. Maybe she was thinking about his blatant lies about Romney and timetables? Maybe she was thinking about his greed and disregard for ethics and the law when he cozied up to 4 Democrat pals in order to make a quick buck off of bribes from the S&L industry? I could go on, but I’m sure you get the point.
It’s beginning to get a little bit more than just tiresome to hear every single charge against Juanita MexiCain “rebuked” with “but he served in Viet Nam!”
Reminds me of a different election not too many years ago, except that the imbeciles were on the other side back then.

You’re right Jim-Rose, McCain is not beyond criticism; nor am I, nor are you, or anyone else on this earth. But loonies like Coulter need to stick to his political behavior and decisions and stay the hell away from his heroic war time Service. McCain is also a little different than Cleland in that he punched out over North Vietnam after being shot down and was imprisoned and tortured for over 5 years. Clelland served honorably but was injured in a non-hostile accident.

John McCain is a WAR HERO.
So was Benedict Arnold.
Later, they both betrayed those who counted on their support.
John McCain supports the surge but OPPOSES pouring water down a suspected terrorists nose to save american lives.
John McCain SUPPORTS the Military- but in California he kisses up to RINOs at a Solar energy plant INSTEAD of condemning Berekley and Oakland for the Horrible Treatment suffered by OUR NEW HEROES in these California cities.

Well, most of my comments will be aimed at mocking and humiliating those of you who insisted on nominating a traitor and complete fraud to represent our Party, even though 30% or more of the conservative base clearly warned you in advance that we would refuse to vote for the clown.
It’s more likely that McCain will win anyway though, because I believe even Democrats will vote for McCain before voting for Hillary. So I’ll be perfectly safe spending the next four years blaming McCain and those who supported him for the disaster that’s coming.
I really doubt you’ll have to suffer through my comments for too long though. My ability to deal with such complete stupidity among this new breed of Republican has run out, and I’m quite sure it won’t be long before I say something that gets me banned. It’s really become a nightmare of a blog since Allah opened up registration again, and being banned would actually do me the favor of forcing me to spend my time doing something more worthwhile, like hitting John McCain upside the head with a shovel.
Gregor on February 1, 2008 at 5:47 PM
And what if you wake up the next morning only to find out the landslide is the other way, in favor of Clinton because so many of the votes cast in the primaries were from Democrat supporters who managed to set him up as their straw man candidate to ensure a Democrat win.
Just A Grunt on February 1, 2008 at 5:47 PM
Are we really thinking of giving Hillary the presidency (assuming she is nominated)?
If Hillary or Obama (especially Obama) get the presidency, expect them to be there for 8 years. Don’t “in four years, vote them out” me with that bullcrap. Anything and everything that goes bad during their administration will be blamed on Bush, and when he’s retired away in Texas, they’ll begin pointing at Republicans. The media will pick this up and run with it right into 2012. If we kiss 2008 away, we can kiss 2012 away as well. McCain may not be on everybody’s “nice” list, but we’d be wise to put a Republican in office this year.
McCain may not be the best, but there’s more promise with him that something good will happen somewhere than with either one of the democrats.

edgehead on February 1, 2008 at 5:50 PM
It IS irrelevant. Running the entire nation, making decisions on foreign and domestic policy require, and having the ability to start major conflicts requires a lot of characteristics. Being tortured at some point doesn’t make a difference one way or another, except in the way that it makes him averse to the use of waterboarding on terrorists.
I repeat, since a lot of you McCain lovers don’t get it: War experience does not mean you will make a good president. Your decisions in office do. McCain’s decisions in office SUCK.
So yes, quit babbling about Vietnam. Saying it has nothing to do with being president is basic logic, and doesn’t take away from whatever bravery he showed.
MadisonConservative on February 1, 2008 at 5:50 PM

Although I respect Rush and Ann, I think that they are wrong and will regret there decisions if Hillary is our next President. The notion that if the country is going to go down the tubes than let it happen under a Democrat would still be a lose for all Americans. One can try to remain optimistic about McCain over Hillary by the following: McCain will not usher in a radical Socialist economy and health care system, Hillary will, McCain seems to be a straight shooter whether one agrees or not, Hillary is the most deceptive politician ever, McCain can help eliminate the extreme polarization in America, Hillary will continue to cause division in our country, McCain has the stones and military experience at a time when we need a leader who firmly supports our military, Hillary is code pink. As far as immigration Pres. Bush also was for the most recent fiasco and the people said no.
Rush say he is a conservative first before a republican, agreed, but one should care about the country as an American first before being a conservative ,and for Hillary to lead our country would be a disaster that would last for many years to come.

Thank you. I wasn’t aware of that. Are there some links or literature you might point me towards in that regard?
a capella on February 1, 2008 at 6:01 PM
Ann is right on when she says McCain will be more damaging to the future of the GOP than Hillary. This is a fact because they will both have Liberal administrations; the only difference is that the GOP will be blamed for McCain’s failures while the Dems will be blamed for Hillary’s failures. As a long term strategy it is better that the GOP lose in ‘08, if McCain is the nominee, and the nation be subjected to Liberalism under a Dem rather than Liberalism under a Rep. I don’t agree with those that say any Republican is better than any Dem. In long term strategic terms this is just a false assumption. Reagan probably wouldn’t have been elected if not for the failure of Jimmy Carter. I’m not saying Hillary’s failures would produce a Reagan but the exposure to Liberalism on the Hillary scale would likely cause many voters to seek more Conservative government in 2012 whereas a McCain presidency will lead us to the same uncertainty we are currently experiencing. McCain simply has no strong convictions about anything. A McCain presidency will be more disastrous for the GOP than a Hillary presidency. I doubt I can be convinced otherwise.
And given his age is it likely he’ll run for reelection in 2012? If he even makes it that far. Who he selects for VP will be critically important since most VP’s wind up running for the big chair themselves. Do we want a McCain clone as VP? What if he chooses Lieberman?

John McCain earned America’s profound respect in Vietnam.
Then John McCain came home.
Now John McCain has earned Americas’s disrespect in Washigton D.C. and he is still working hard to earn it.
If the John McCain of the Vietnam era were still here, I might be able to vote for him. Sadly that John McCain is not here.
Mitt Rommey is here. He is running a full spectrum conservative platform. I will stand with him.
Stand with Mitt! Stand with Conservatism! MITT ROMNEY 08!

They’ll do the same thing under a McVain administration. The only difference being that they will be right.

I’d vote for a goat before John McCain. Friggin b&stard!

That is the approach that I take when I have a team that is down by 10 points with 3 minutes to go; I clearly illustrate the problem in vivid detail, and let them know that if they do not do this NOW, the game is over NOW.
