Open thread: Nuclear war in California

8 p.m. ET on CNN, one on one at last. The conventional wisdom has it that this is the Messiah’s chance to take her down a peg before Super Tuesday but I think it’s just as much her chance to prove she can stand toe to toe with him on the same stage. There are no significant policy differences to be hashed out here, only health-care arcania and withdrawal nuance. Which means it’s a matter of style, which in turn makes her the underdog.

This freaky little tidbit makes me think she’s about to play the gender card again, so look for some faux hurt feelings about the SOTU snub. It would be awesomely awesome if Obama hit her over the latest BJ revelations, but he’s probably wary enough about Rezko that he doesn’t want to get in the mud. What are they going to talk about for two hours? Hillary’s scummy Florida politicking? Batten down the hatches for the most excruciatingly substance-less — yet possibly vicious — debate yet!

Sound off below. Video to come, if there’s something worth clipping.

Small business groups are the way to go with health insurance. You get a huge group together and the prices fall dramatically.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooTed Kennedy name was mentioned,
thats a stake and garlic for Hillary!

Regulation, Mandate. More Government.

My thoughts are lets hang McCain out to dry and give the election to the Dems, but fight for the congressional races.

Win the Mid term Elections and get a REAL player in 2012

BKennedy on January 31, 2008 at 8:29 PM

Do those idiots in the audience really expect to get universal health care without paying thru the nose?

malkinmania on January 31, 2008 at 8:29 PM

Is that mayonnaise on the corners of her lips?

eucher on January 31, 2008 at 8:29 PM

Evil Big Pharma.

BKennedy on January 31, 2008 at 8:30 PM

If either one of these two win in November, we are going to be taxed to death and parented by the government for years to come. Gay marriage will be passed into law; health care for illegal immigrants will be instilled; gas will go up to $5 per gallon and utilities will be sky-high due to carbon taxes; we will be out of Iraq so fast that that country will go the way of Vietnam (and it will be blamed on Bush, of course). We will never hear the terms “radical Islam” et.al, and will be lulled into a dangerous slumber on the WOT. This could really happen.

carbon_footprint on January 31, 2008 at 8:30 PM

chrimeny… are they going to talk about ANYTHING else ?

cannonball on January 31, 2008 at 8:30 PM

The audience doesn’t know when to clap.

CABE on January 31, 2008 at 8:30 PM

Every single “plan” I hear coming out of their mouths involves money coming out of my pocket.

STG Democrats never met a tax they didn’t like.

The Ugly American on January 31, 2008 at 8:30 PM

Hillary “tell health insurance companies you must cover everyone and cover every pre-existing condition”

What’s next? Cell phone companies must offer service contracts to everyone regardless of credit score? Auto loans must be given to everyone regardless of credit score?

Where in the constitution does it give the government that kind of power?

MrSteve on January 31, 2008 at 8:30 PM

didn’t the drug companies do the R&D, costing billions of dollars, to produce these drugs?
What are they supposed to do? Give it away for free?

Hillary’s solution: Less doctors, less care

lsutiger on January 31, 2008 at 8:31 PM

Oh, and the most important casualty will be two to three SCOTUS judges chosen by these socialists.

It’s cottonmouth.

SouthernDem on January 31, 2008 at 8:31 PM

I might be oversimplifying things here, but wouldn’t healthcare costs go down if people took better care of themselves and stopped visiting the doctor because they got the sniffles?

Small Business Owners, you just got f***ed.

BKennedy on January 31, 2008 at 8:35 PM

Dear Obama & Hillary,

Tax cuts for corporations = jobs

Tax cuts for po folk = new Air Jordans

The Ugly American on January 31, 2008 at 8:35 PM

Mr. Obama, you forget something about the economy. If you take money out of the hands of job creators, they cut back on hiring, and even may have to cut back on the workforce to make the books balance.

The reason that Murdock’s tax rate was less then his employee was because he takes all of his income from dividends from his investments.
DRINK!(Bush administration)

lsutiger on January 31, 2008 at 8:35 PM

110 Billion annually. That’s quite a pocket of change. Nice shot at the straight talk express btw.

malkinmania on January 31, 2008 at 8:29 PM

Yes. I have had a long debate with a friend from New Zealand. I don’t care how you frame it to him, his healthcare is free.

Dear Obama & Hillary,

End free healthcare for illegals.

Problem solved.

The Ugly American on January 31, 2008 at 8:37 PM

Obama: Government has Moral Obligation to tax the hell out of you for inferior care.

BKennedy on January 31, 2008 at 8:37 PM

Correct me if I’m wrong… but did Hillary! just repeat verbatim what Obamamana just said regarding how they’d pay for their healthcare program?

MrSteve on January 31, 2008 at 8:37 PM

I have a moral obligation to pay for a jacka** who refuses to work.

VolMagic on January 31, 2008 at 8:39 PM

BKennedy on January 31, 2008 at 8:39 PM

I heard somebody clap when she said, “we’re going back to the tax rates of before George Bush became president.”

I think it was a reflex.

askheaves on January 31, 2008 at 8:39 PM

I made 14% more this year. My taxes went up 35% from the previous years. With more deductions, my refund is more than 50% less.

So if I am one of those rich ppl, how am I getting favored under Bush?
And, just as a footnpte, I am FAR from rich!

lsutiger on January 31, 2008 at 8:39 PM

Hillary just farted

VolMagic on January 31, 2008 at 8:39 PM

Hello…..good question.

Ilegal immigration probably hurts blacks the most.

Of course, Obama is dancing around this one.

The Ugly American on January 31, 2008 at 8:40 PM

How the heck does the economic question on immigration not come up in the R debates?!

Spirit of 1776 on January 31, 2008 at 8:40 PM

“Declining wages in the African American community”? Is that even accurate? Last I knew their incomes had become increasingly equal.

RightWinged on January 31, 2008 at 8:40 PM

They’re just “immigrants”

mred on January 31, 2008 at 8:40 PM

That is WAY easier than the Legal route.

lsutiger on January 31, 2008 at 8:39 PM

It’s been proven that, not only have tax receipts grown under LOWER taxes, but the share that the “rich” pay is actually now even larger (under Bush)!

There’s more out there that I’ve read before, but a quick search gave me this:

Probably right.

Spirit of 1776 on January 31, 2008 at 8:45 PM

Tax cuts tht went u[ instead of down? I wonder if Obama ever heard the story of the group of men eating lunch every day. 10 guys go to lunch. It costs $200 total. 5 guys pay $100, $50, $30, $15, and $5 respectively. A reduction in the cost of lunch from $200 to $150 means they each pay less, respectivley. Then the 5 guys who dont pay anything complain that the guys who do pay end up paying less.

This is America, and Dems hates it when honest, hard-working americans get a break from the tax burden. It is so gross and sick.

VolMagic on January 31, 2008 at 8:45 PM

So, there is no single candidate committed to controlling illegal immigration…

Meanwhile, 90% of my software team is still spending tens of thousands of dollars on lawyers and weeks of work trying just to get a greencard (or maintain their H1B).

Mojack420 on January 31, 2008 at 8:46 PM

Um…didn’t illegals sneek over here because they didn’t want to go through the normal path to citizenship? Why the heck would they come out of the shadows to go to the back of the line?

BKennedy on January 31, 2008 at 8:47 PM

YES! Make us more bankrupt by allowing more ppl into our system that do not belong here. They already are bankrupting small cities with free health care.
