Video: Fossil from the Paleozoic makes the rounds with Obama, preaching “change”

The most ridiculous spectacle of the 2008 campaign season might be 75-year-old Ted Kennedy, a man who has spent his entire career in politics, a man who has often personified divisive, attack-based politics, a man who owes his very existence on the national stage to his famous name, getting on the Barack Obama “change” bandwagon. The nation ought to be laughing up our collective sleeves about it, but instead Kennedy is treated seriously not just by the Clintons and Obama, but by the press as well.
Even the NYT’s resident “conservative,” David Brooks, is succumbing to Kennedy’s gaseous “mystique.”
Last week there was the widespread revulsion at the Clintons’ toxic attempts to ghettoize Barack Obama. In private and occasionally in public, leading Democrats lost patience with the hyperpartisan style of politics — the distortion of facts, the demonizing of foes, the secret admiration for brass-knuckle brawling and the ever-present assumption that it’s necessary to pollute the public sphere to win. All the suppressed suspicions of Clintonian narcissism came back to the fore. Are these people really serving the larger cause of the Democratic Party, or are they using the party as a vehicle for themselves?
And then Monday, something equally astonishing happened. A throng of Kennedys came to the Bender Arena at American University in Washington to endorse Obama. Caroline Kennedy evoked her father. Senator Edward Kennedy’s slightly hunched form carried with it the recent history of the Democratic Party.
This is the same Ted Kennedy who worked with the USSR to undermine President Reagan’s foreign policy. This is the same Ted Kennedy who falsely accused President Bush of concocting the war in Iraq for political reasons. Kennedy put his stamp on that slice of “Bush LIED” Trutherism and has never retracted it. Why does Brooks give this loathesome, hypocritical toad a pass?
Well, it will go over well at the weekend cocktail parties. What else explains it?
And what else explains why anyone would listen to one of the chief architects of the politics of division and personal destruction and one of the longest-serving dynastic politicians in the country when he talks about the need for “change?” Everything about Kennedy screams stasis, not change.
If Ted Kennedy really believes that the country needs change, he should start with himself and retire.

It’s like a debutante ball, and Ted Kennedy is the Grand Dame presenting her precious snowflake to the rest of the world.

Careful B. Aren’t we about to run the youthful Johnny Mac against him?
JiangxiDad on January 29, 2008 at 10:24 AM
“Bridge” to the past. heh heh heh
Hey, don’t leave out Kennedy inventing the principle of “Borking” someone and ruining the reputations of honorable men for his own political grudges.
Any truth to the rumor that after the cameras were turned off, Teddy told Obama to run off and get him a scotch? heh heh

Could not have been better stated.

“Fossil from the Paleozoic”? I thought all the dinosaurs (except for those who who grew feathers and evolved into birds) died from that meteor impact 65 million years ago. It appears I stand corrected.
Now I understand. Alcohol is a preservative. Maybe that’s why Teddy Rex has lasted so long.
Bigfoot on January 29, 2008 at 10:31 AM
“Change” in socialist, er, democrat language means one extra dollar for them, one less for me and you.
darwin on January 29, 2008 at 10:32 AM
Let me see if I got this right…
Obama has rejected the establishment “politics of the past” represented by the Clintons —
by reaching back to the politics of the past represented by the establishment Kennedys.
Does Teddah think he has found himself a nice inexperienced puppet that he can manipulate in the name of progressivism (while the Ice Queen would just give him the Glare)….
hmmmmm

Global Warming proponets are now touting immediate action to save surviving dinosaurs. A carbon tax AND a dinosaur tax.

AMEN! Here’s to hoping this endorsement backfires. His supporters may be young, but I bet Ted underestimates their intelligence.

Three things missing in that video clip ….
1. Accordian
2. Tin Cup
3. Leash

Is that one of those self-inflating floatation devices I see tucked under Obama’s shirt?

Oh man … that’s funny.

Gravitas, lefty-style.

Reminds of an Ozzy song. 10 points if you can guess which one.
Don’t forget, people, Obama is preaching a message hope! As in, “I hope no one notices I’m just as incompetent and corrupt as my competition.”

Er Ah, Osama Obama……

Don’t laugh, this is the same country that wanted a “change” in 2006 and so put him back in charge of a congressional committee, along with Charlie Rangel, John Dingell, Barney Frank, Henry Waxman, John Conyers, Carl Levin, Daniel Inouye, Pat Leahy, Robert Byrd and all those other young guns with fresh new ideas about how government should work.
Dudley Smith on January 29, 2008 at 10:44 AM
Helping take out Clinton in the primary instead of an agonizing, risky strategy of pitting her against the GOP nominee in the general is a bad thing? Maybe Ol’ Ted is doing us a favor.
captivated_dem on January 29, 2008 at 10:48 AM
Cap’n Ed at QC has a nice summary of what the Kennedy endorsment means in terms of the major split in the donk party. Old ultra left(Kennedy) vs Clintonian triangulation towards center. The old guard wants it’s toy back and Obama is the vehicle. This is very nice.
a capella on January 29, 2008 at 10:51 AM
Exactly. I think the Clintons are starting to feel about like Julius Caesar on the Ides of March. Never turn your back on Senators . . .
Dudley Smith on January 29, 2008 at 10:58 AM
CHANGE is overrated.
We should all remind ourselves who ended up in the White House the last time the Democrats were screaming “Time for a Change” at the top of their lungs. Remember, we had that liar Nixon who was forced to resign and his crony Ford who had the onions to pardon him.
Who was the agent of CHANGE that answered the call of the bleeting herd?
Jimmah Carter.
Hey Ted, that worked out swimmingly, didn’t it?
fogw on January 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM

You can’t make this up.

I would not be surprised if the Clintonistas are preparing retribution against Teddy The K for daring to go against Hill The Shill, in the form of newly discovered evidence regarding that little automobile “mishap” of his years ago mysteriously making its way to the editors of the NYT and the Washington Post.

Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment

I’ll bet Ted didn’t drive.

Obama is smooth. I like him personally, if not politically. But meatloaf head? That man is as cynical as I am. He weighed his choices and saw Obama as the winner, no doubt about it.
amkun on January 29, 2008 at 11:23 AM
I don’t like Kennedy, and I don’t think he has yet borne responsibility for the things that he has done to other people. But what he did with Obama was a rebuke to Clintonian politics. I give him credit for it. It doesn’t make the balance equal, but I give him credit for it.
Spirit of 1776 on January 29, 2008 at 11:28 AM
CHANGE is overrated.
Hillary wants to CHANGE us from a democratic republic into a socialist dictatorship.
The rest of the democrats want to CHANGE us from a modern industrialized society into a third-world backwater where we live without heating or air conditioning and eke out a living using pedal power supplemented by occasional blasts of wind. They also want to change us from a nation with 4% unemployment into a nation with 4% employment by destroying anything which looks like a business.
landlines on January 29, 2008 at 11:34 AM
I’d just add, much like what Santorium is attempting to do with McCain. Just Santorium doesn’t have the weight, er, influence or the baggage that Kennedy does.
Spirit of 1776 on January 29, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Wasn’t Teddy Kennedy’s relative a pacifist who thought Hitler wasn’t such a bad guy and maybe ol’ Adolf could be negotiated with? A diplomat or something, right? The apple don’t fall far from the tree….
I know that was a long time ago, but I still hold a tiny bit o’ a grudge.
mjk on January 29, 2008 at 11:37 AM
Yup, that was the old man … Joe Kennedy. Said it while he was sitting in London as our ambassador to Britain. Roosevelt fired him.
fogw on January 29, 2008 at 11:42 AM
That was his father, Joe the bootlegger. He was Ambassador to either Great Britain or Germany,..can’t remember which.
a capella on January 29, 2008 at 11:42 AM
Thanks, fogw and a capella, I knew I wasn’t hallucinating that.
I forgot ol’ Joe was a bootlegger. Respectable Bostonian famiy indeed.
mjk on January 29, 2008 at 11:48 AM
I hope this Kennedy flatulence become an albatross around Obama’s neck.
I thought Kennedy’s passion was a jug of Carlo Rossi Piasano.
He certainly won’t get comp’ed tickets to the Clinton Library and Massage parlor.

I see a new movie coming up: “Driving Mr. Teddy”

Whoah, you found the videotape and the bones stamped “circa 65 million BC”? Richard Dawkins will be thrilled.
MrJustice on January 29, 2008 at 12:05 PM
That’s the first thing I thought when I saw Obama on stage with a bunch of Kennedy’s… surrounded by “Change!” signs… Lol, WTF? Once again, you must remember that in order to be a Democrat you are required to be insanely dishonest at your core, or just incredibly stupid… that’s why stuff like this, or Hillary saying the other day that Bill’s attacks are because he’s so “committed” to her and “loves” her so much, etc. get said with straight faces. It’s just the whole idiot/dishonest Democrat culture, end of story.
RightWinged on January 29, 2008 at 12:07 PM
Obama – Change
Teddy K – Depends

HAAA!! HAAA!!!
When I heard Teddy hic-up Kennedy bloviating his endorsement about Obambi “new blood, younger, the next generation”, etc. I thought Kennedy, you old fart! Why don’t you step down from your 30 + years of clogging up progress in the senate with all of your BS! (of all the Kennedys still with us….)

Obama supports Palestinian state cutting Israel in half
Is there any doubt this guy is an A$$HOLE?
Andy in Agoura Hills on January 29, 2008 at 2:03 PM
Maybe like Hillary, he`ll claim that he has SO much experience, he can bring change. “So bring me back for my 127th term!……..TERM!”…………..I NEED ONE MORE SHOUT LINE-TERM!“
ThePrez on January 29, 2008 at 2:05 PM
Ted certainly brought change to Mary Jo Kopechne’s life. And he certainly brought change to South Vietnam in 1975 when he reneged on the US agreement to provide air support against a Communist invasion. You might call Teddy a real change agent.
Tantor on January 29, 2008 at 3:30 PM
I’m hearing a line from the Godfather movies running through my mind in a new form…
“Your father worked with Teddy Kennedy, but your father never TRUSTED Teddy Kennedy…”
Hillary found it out, Obama-lama-ding-dong needs to get himself a rear-view mirror to see where the knife is coming from.
52Ranger on January 29, 2008 at 11:49 PM
As much as I dislike Ted Kennedy, he looks pretty good. He looks like he’s lost some weight off his head.
