Obama advisor on Hillary snub: He was being polite
posted at 10:50 am on January 29, 2008 by Allahpundit
How blessed we are to have two primaries where the leading candidates hate each other. The spin here from Axelrod is that the Messiah couldn’t bear to see poor Hillary humiliated by having to make nice with Teddy in his presence. Really? Check out the photo Drudge is leading with. See that look on Obama’s face? We all know it. We’ve all worn it a thousand times. That’s pure, straight Hillary hate, baby. About 120 proof, I’d say. The eyewitness account:
As Clinton approached, Kennedy made sure to make eye contact and indicated he wanted to shake her hand. Clinton leaned towards Kennedy over a row of seats and Kennedy leaned in towards her. They shook hands.
Obama stood icily staring at Clinton during this, then turned his back and stepped a few feet away. Kennedy may’ve wanted to make peace with Clinton but Obama clearly wanted no part of that.
Anyone seen video of the fateful moment? There’s nothing on YouTube or RedLasso and Scarborough doesn’t have it here so I’m guessing it doesn’t exist. Tip me if you spot it. I’m curious.
Here’s something a little friendlier to warm the cockles of the organ of your choice.

Heh. I can’t wait for Obama’s next book: The Audacity of Grudges.
Re: Bush
Call me old-fashioned, but I really appreciate the warmth, real and artificial, shown the President at the State of the Union. Especially considering the vitriol he has to deal with the rest of the year.

The picture on your front page is more telling that the Drudge pic.
Obama has his back turned, while Hillary looks like she’s extending her hand in an attempt to get Teddy to save her from a sinking car.
Brat on January 29, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Oh Teddy, please back me, can’t you see I even wore my Republican Red Dress? The Clinton family has not had such good luck with blue dresses.

Here’s a question: Do you think the loser in the Democratic race, Hillary or Barack, will turn into the John McCain of
Democratic party? Meaning that the person who loses will become intent on not siding with the Dems any longer.
terryannonline on January 29, 2008 at 11:25 AM
This is somewhat off topic, but per the MSNBC clip – anyone else besides me think that despite her liberalness, Mika Brzezinski is kinda hot?
/ok, back to regular programming

In the Drudge pic, Obama and Kennedy look they’re hatching something else. Do ya think we can count out either Obama or Clinton standing as VP for the one that walks away with the nomination? Heh:)

Osamabama, don’t turn your back to a clinton.
davidk on January 29, 2008 at 11:35 AM
I find Axelrod’s explanation reasonable. If Kennedy was going to say something privately to Hillary, Obama could have just been giving them some space.
mikeyboss on January 29, 2008 at 11:37 AM
That would be a negative. I find her all shades of annoying as well.
Spirit of 1776 on January 29, 2008 at 11:38 AM
I have a feeling that Senator 0 is about to get himself a whole heaping helping of “polite” coming right back at him.
CK MacLeod on January 29, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Agree with you wholeheartedly about “Mika”, and I love you (artificial warmth.)
JiangxiDad on January 29, 2008 at 11:41 AM
Now, I don’t know how Obama was raised but my Mommy and Daddy told me that even when I don’t particularly like someone, I still shake their hand and am polite to them. Because that’s what decent human beings do. George W’s parents seemed to have raised him in that manner too as he’s unfailingly polite to those who would like nothing more than to see him in bad straits.
Of course, we are talking about Democrats. Perhaps decent human behavior is out of their realm. I think the past few years have proved that.

In the Drudge photo, Obama doesn’t look hateful at all. He looks amused, superior, even; as if Clinton isn’t even worth his hate.
As for the “snub,” it is one, but it isn’t as bad as it could have been. Standing there facing the two as Kennedy shook hands with Clinton and then turning away would have been much more inflammatory.

If I were Barack Obama, I wouldn’t want to shake Clinton’s hand after this bitter primary season.

Once the nominee is chosen, all will be forgotten. As I said yesterday, the Dems have no principles and will suffer from “primary amnesia” come the general election. Not to mention they will be enabled by the MSM to appear as one big happy family. However, the MSM will duly report of the bitter Republican primary season during the general election. CNN’s graphics last night touted “Republican WAR” regarding McCain and Romney. I haven’t seen such language used by them to describe HillBill and BamBam.

Hmmm. Campaign officials sure give weird excuses for people sometimes. Even if he wasn’t giving her an “icy stare”, by playing it up like he was doing something benevolent like giving them a “private moment” just sounds weird.

Watching Hillary and Barack and John Edwards debate reminds me of profoundly mature Jesse Ventura was.

Again, I’d love to see Obama in the same room as Ehud Barak.
Talk about being out of his league.
mjk on January 29, 2008 at 3:58 PM
Agree. Don’t see hate there at all; maybe a bit of disdain but mostly superiority. Which is as it should be. In spite of his extreme liberal views w/ which I totally disagree, the man seems to have a lot of class. Hillary has NONE.

I love Denis Leary, Mircat! And his opening song is very appropriate in this case, too. “I’m an a@%hole, (he’s the world’s biggest a%@hole), la da da da de da.”
