Video: Steve Novick’s “hard left hook”

Short, funny, left-wing: It’s as if Patton Oswalt were running for Senate! This guy’s considerably more impressive than Oswalt, though, especially given his medical history. The bad news: In July he trailed the Republican incumbent by 23 points; in November he trailed by six. The good news: The incumbent is Gordon Smith, who’s been siding with the left against the war for months. Worst case scenario? The Democrats end up with 58 seats instead of 57, Oregon’s seat keeps voting the same way on Iraq, and we get a senator with a wicked awesome hook for a hand. Who needs filibusters anyway, right?

Reminds me of an Obama speech – awesome delivery, little substance, except to clearly identify himself as a populist/leftist.

Wait, Oswalt is funny?
I’m willing to believe, but an you please link to the LOLZ from that guy? Because all I’ve ever heard is some mostly disturbing riffs from the guy regarding his pathetic D&D-geek lifestyle.

Does this guy support selective abortions for deformed fetuses?
ninjapirate on January 28, 2008 at 2:17 PM
We also get massive economy crushing global warming legislation.
This guy has been one of Oregon’s biggest envirotards for years
ChrisM on January 28, 2008 at 2:19 PM
Ouch!
natesnake on January 28, 2008 at 2:20 PM
You have to give some credit to his PR/Advertising Department. Those ads are unique and memorable.
natesnake on January 28, 2008 at 2:21 PM
Pretty good ads though, gotta give him that.
conservnut on January 28, 2008 at 2:23 PM
When I run for office, I’ll wear an eye patch.
People won’t remember my name, but they’ll say, “I’m voting for the guy with the eye patch. He looks serious.”
natesnake on January 28, 2008 at 2:24 PM
I won’t vote for just any eye patch wearing guy. It has to be wicked and awsome too.
KelliD on January 28, 2008 at 2:28 PM
Oh man, first a guy with a hook for a hand and now you’re talking eyepatches? There’s a pirate joke in here somewhere, I’m just too lazy to find it.
trubble on January 28, 2008 at 2:30 PM
I agree. No eyepatch is complete without a wicked battle scar.
askheaves on January 28, 2008 at 2:32 PM
If you can just tune out what he is actually saying, the ads are terrific. Memorable, funny . . . too bad he’s a leftist. Of course, in Oregon that’s probably a plus.
TX Mom on January 28, 2008 at 2:32 PM
You’re right. I’ll put some of that high-end scar makeup that’s made out of glue. It gives a nice pink scar.
I’m thinking a single line down the middle of the eye with 2″ of scar above and below the patch.
Would a small jewel in the center of the eye patch be too much? Too maniacal?
natesnake on January 28, 2008 at 2:39 PM
Did you hear about the new Pirate movie?
*places hand over one eye*
It’s rated “Arrgh!”
davidk on January 28, 2008 at 2:40 PM
TX Mom, you might be surprised to learn that there is only 1 deep blue county out of 36 in Oregon, most are blood red and a few are baby blue or purple.
ChrisM on January 28, 2008 at 2:42 PM
Pirate walks into a bar with a ship’s wheel sticking out of the zipper of his pants. He slaps 2 dubloons on the bar and says “Arrrgghh give me some rum!” The bartender says, “Sure, but I’ve gotta ask, what’s up with the ship’s wheel?” The pirate says, “Arrrgh, it’s driving me nuts”

I may not agree with what he says, but I’d have a beer with him.
pb5000 on January 28, 2008 at 2:50 PM
Yeah Gordon has been a putz wrt to Iraq, but he kinda got out of my doghouse by reintroducing a Senate version of Steve King’s house bill that disallows employers’ tax deductions of wages paid to mismatched SSNs.
Not that’s sayin’ something.
innominatus on January 28, 2008 at 2:50 PM
You never seen the Comedians of Comedy?
How about “Failure Pile in a Sadness Bowl”?

SouthernDem on January 28, 2008 at 2:51 PM
And besides, it’s kinda neat that someone in Oregon with a prosthetic hook made it past the “carnival ride operator” career plateau.
innominatus on January 28, 2008 at 2:52 PM
He gets my vote if he buys me a couple beers…and opens them for me as well…
RMCS_USN on January 28, 2008 at 3:00 PM
That. Was. Awesome.
darii on January 28, 2008 at 3:03 PM
Bad ideology, great ads! Maybe some of the GOP guys could take some notes.

Impressive…give that man a hand!!!
Lord, I apologize….
gozips on January 28, 2008 at 4:50 PM
SHORT on substance!!!
…and apparently trying to remake “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” into a comedy entitled “A Left Coast Liberal in Washington DC”. In each version, the main character tries to convince the backward masses that he is a wizard who controls the sun!
Question: if you shout into a Democrat candidates’ ear, do you always get an echo??
landlines on January 28, 2008 at 5:47 PM
I am surprised. Maybe there’s hope for the left coast yet!
TX Mom on January 28, 2008 at 11:51 PM
