Open thread: State of the Union, lame duck edition! Video: Bush on defeating Al Qaeda in Iraq

9 p.m. ET on Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc etc. Dispense with the laundry list, Dubya, and pull out the stops on one last appeal for resolve in Iraq. That’s the only way to redeem what’s otherwise bound to be a forgettable speech. It’s his last big audience with the country and it’d give the good people at Al Jazeera, who are front and center tonight, something to talk about afterwards. Why waste the opportunity?
We’ll get some of that, I’m sure, and if there’s a clipworthy moment it’ll probably come in that context, but be prepared for a long hard slog on the way. While we wait, enjoy this. Click the image to watch.

I’ve had the same thought…would the Clintons get to a point where they would knock off Obama if it was necessary to ensure that (the formerly “inevitable”) Hillary returns to power? I wouldn’t put it past them.
For all of the Democrat attacks on President Bush’s claim to be a “uniter not divider”, it’s amazing (and entertaining) to see how much a divider the Clintons have become not just between Democrats and Republicans, but within the Democrat party itself!

Lame duck editionLame attempt at humor while discounting a really great speech than many other Presidents pass on.That’s ok, when you all put your precious Mitt up against Clinton/Obama we’ll have something more to gripe about than misplaced humor. I think a Hannity caller hit the nail on the head the other day: “Romney is the Republican John Kerry for 2008.” I sure hope Rudy doesn’t drop out if he loses Florida. He’s the only guy that hasn’t waffled and that has the ability to beat Obama, let alone Clinton.
