And so we learn that there are in fact “endorsements” even Maverick won’t accept.
Nice job here by Craig Rivera in almost asking a coherent question. Almost.

Powerline is running some junk that McCain would appoint Lindsey Graham to the Supreme Court. Nice try.

Romney says he saw his father march with MLK, he’s lying and trying to cover up something….you can tell that is his weak spot!
HaraldHardrada on January 27, 2008 at 1:56 AM
Partial truth. Was endorsed by the members if I recall correctly. I only saw the clip of him explaining that on a show and saying he would love the national organization; did he claim the full NRA?
Truth. I have no problem with this statement whatsoever. Meant figuratively, I have problems used that exactly terminology in complimenting my own father. His explanation however = painful. A single line, “I meant it figuratively” would have sufficed.
Did he say that? I would guess that probably isn’t true. I don’t know though.
Spirit of 1776 on January 27, 2008 at 1:56 AM
Heh. My typo. Should read, “I have probably used”
Spirit of 1776 on January 27, 2008 at 1:57 AM
Why does Fox continue to employ Geraldo? He’s such a sleaze. If they want a pro-amnesty RINO to have a show, that’s fine – as long as it’s not Geraldo.

So no one can comment on why the MSM keeps calling McCain the frontrunner even thought Romney has almost twice the delegates and McCain supports terrorist prisoners getting better food and medical care than us soldiers (and US citizens)?

I think you will be surprised when Huckabee shows up the lead on super tuesday!
HaraldHardrada on January 27, 2008 at 2:07 AM
Exactly! So what is this with the MSMs obsession!?! Are they trying to make the news instead of report it!? Hmmm….Kind of reminds me of Israel/Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc,… GOSH! I see a trend!
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:08 AM
Well if we’re going to talk flip flops they’re all acting like fish on dry land. McCain is by far the least creative and usually just denies that his amnesty bill was amnesty because one member of the criminal family had to return to Mexico (not even their home country) for a few hours before our gov’t would rubber stamp their amnesty card with only a 1 working day investigation. Can you say “nice Koran there Juan”? Romney did his flopping but only flipped once. Of the whole sorry bunch I could vote for Romney if I medicate myself appropriately and get a ride to the polls. Rudy has to be admired for admitting he’s slightly to the left of Hillary on some issues but would act like a conservative if elected. I wouldn’t vote for him but at least he admitted it. I’m starting to think that Huckabee’s been brainwashed to actually believe that what he did in Arkansas was conservative. They must have brainwashed Walker Texas Ranger too for that matter. He won’t even have the good grace to say his position has evolved. He just grins and spins away the fact that he made Arkansas government huge and raised taxes a lot.
I can’t trust preachers who are involved in politics. There’s Sharpton, Jackson and we know how they lie thru their teeth. Now Huckabee comes along and denies his past. I can’t trust preachers who are involved in politics.

El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:20 AM
Ronald Reagan raised taxes in california by a billion dollars…ten billion in today’s money!
Reagan was a conservative and raised taxes alot more than Huckabee!
HaraldHardrada on January 27, 2008 at 2:22 AM
Buzzy
So look at it this way: Who do you want? someone who will guarantee to run even more businesses out of the USA with higher taxes or someone who knows how corporate America works because he was there and unlike any other candidate is actually a successful businessman who buys strugling companies and turns them around (sharp contrast to G.W. Bush)?
Plus the GWOT. withdrawl or defeat theenemy which we are in the process of doing now in Iraq?
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:23 AM
HaraldHardrada
But Reagan knew WHERE to raise taxes. Not just raise taxes to punish the rich, which are the employeres. Big difference.
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:25 AM
Any other ideas for Romney’s VP? Rudy would be good.
Romney-Thompson.
Paul-Cincy on January 27, 2008 at 2:26 AM
HaraldHardrada And since Reagans demise, Cali has prospered how?
In debt by how much? How much of their industry is moving out like Michigan?
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:26 AM
Romney/Guliani would be 2 “northerners”. not good and out of the norm. usually you want someone from the east and west, or, north and south.
Romney/Thompson would be a good match because Thompson already knows the Senate so they cant give him any BS, and he is the true conservative compared to the other candidates (besides Paul). he would complete the ticket.
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:30 AM
El Guapo,
Romney’s Leveraged Buyouts are a major NEGATIVE against him come the general election…
Essentially what it is, is buying a company cheap….firing as many people as possible to increase your earnings and then taking the company public again at a higher multiple.
They will crucify him about this…notice how they are silent now…but this would kill him!
HaraldHardrada on January 27, 2008 at 2:30 AM
Don’t get me started on Ron Paul! He is ahead of his time (or preaching above the choir’s level) as far as abolishing the Fed or re-instituting the gold standard, and some other issues, that is why some see him as a nut.
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:31 AM
HaraldHardrada
That is one way to look at it. I see it as trimming fat and doing what you have to in order to save a company. one of the reasons no one ever does this with the fed is becuase SO MANY jobs will be lost once the public is made aware of the many levels of redundancy and/or needless offices.
He may be exactly what we need. I am just an E-6 select in the AF, and i see from my view point so many ways to cut costs/streamline/make more effecient/save $$/ speed up our logisticis but i am not allowed to do so because of GAS contracts, guidelines, and regulations. millions if not billions are wasted because of this decades old legislation.
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:35 AM
GSA not GAS contracts. sorry.
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:37 AM
Paul didn’t come up with getting rid of the fed…Pat Robertson was the one who first ran for POTUS with that platform in 1988!
Get out of the UN
Get rid of the Fed
Get rid of the one world government CFR
Read his book New World Order made in 1991..it was a very good book
HaraldHardrada on January 27, 2008 at 2:37 AM
HaraldHardrada Now those i agree with! funny how the most educated are on the ball with the fed and the UN. and North American Union.
But so many dont know what Ron Paul was talking about, (and Pat Robertson), he is labeled as a radical nut.
I learned way back in Econ classes what can happen if the rest of the world caught on to our Fed policies and wanted to collapse us from the inside (ruin our market).
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:41 AM
All i can say, is STOP taking loans and make the cuts you have to (like cancel cable or stop partying) and pay your debts!!! If consumers start paying off their debts (even faster then the fed gov’t) the dollar value will go back up and inflation will slow if not reverse some. but if you keep taking out loans you cannot pay the $$ will keep falling becaues our FED is based on debt instead of tangible assets, and foreign gov’ts will keep buying our assets.
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 2:44 AM
Pat Robertson was an underestimated genius..underestimated like so many other brilliant southerners..(Mike Huckabee)!

In response to my q re what to do if McShamnesty gets nominated:
a) stay home
b) vote for the democrap
c) hold nose and vote to McCain to protect the court
If EJ is right, there is no reason to vote for McShamnesty. I don’t even trust him anymore with the WOT…he has lied to us about everything else…he’s a democrat, he’s talked to the dem leaders about joining their party, and he wanted to be Kerry’s VP.
If someone is going to ruin the country, let it be someone with a D behind the name, not a R.
I may have to vote for the democrap (unless Rudy or Romney gets nominated of course…..)

Huckabee is the only one who will keep the most of the big tent together!
On the polls I have found considering Romney bias..the most favorable to him gives him a whopping 20% of republican who will absolutely not vote for him under any circumstances!
I would guess 40% to 50% though.
Huck scores 8% boycott and Mccain averages 10%.
Therefore Huckabee is our strongest candidate in a close election!

One thing i find funny is that i have never heard any candidate who claims to be the best for green technology ask “why are we not allowed to recycle spent nuke fuel rods when France and Japan do so with technology we invented” (and without incidents/accidents)? This would practically eliminate nuclear waste and increase our nuke fuel for electricity almost infinitely.
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 3:08 AM

That is just NOT true, Rudy is anti-Abortion, but he IS Pro-Choice.. IF you can see the difference, and he would and does advise people into adoption as an alternative.
Abortion went down in NY City when he was in office faster than the national average and Adoptions went up, also the very high Murder and violent crime rates were significantly reduced.
Chakra Hammer on January 27, 2008 at 3:23 AM
He is right on that one. But Rudy isnt getting the support for some reason. Too many people still follow the media.

Look I was for Fred before he went out. I almost knew if he didnt win then it was likely we would end up with McCain.
Instead others backed Huck and Mitt neither who have any chance of winning the nomination. Huck is dead meat in states with small numbers of evangelicals and Mitt is dead meat in the south.
The ONLY candidate the could have beaten McCain was a conservative southern that could have built a base along all members of the Reagan coalition. Fred’s poor start hurt him but he could have won the nomination.
Now as it is the path is open to McCain and nothing is standing in his way.
William Amos on January 27, 2008 at 3:30 AM

Chakra Hammer on January 27, 2008 at 3:32 AM

Fred Thompson says “No” to Human Life Amendment
Chakra Hammer on January 27, 2008 at 3:34 AM
Not to be a ron paul-head, but he was federalist too. The problem with federalism is too many of the democratic governors would fail once they were held responsible fortheir states and fingers would point back to Washington becasue too many people dont know how our gov’t is supposed to work. instead they remember how the libs want the gov’t to work, thanks to the media and our wonderful education system. (i work with people who cant even name the 3 branches and their role/responsibilities and I AM MIITARY!)
El Guapo on January 27, 2008 at 3:36 AM

That’s why Fred was promptly rejected.
HaraldHardrada on January 27, 2008 at 3:36 AM
MR. RUSSERT: Let me ask you about an issue very important in your party’s primary process, and that’s abortion.
MR. THOMPSON: Mm-hmm.
MR. RUSSERT: This is the 2004 Republican Party platform, and here it is: “We say the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution,” “we endorse legislation to make it clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions.” Could you run as a candidate on that platform, promising a human life amendment banning all abortions?
MR. THOMPSON: No.
MR. RUSSERT: You would not?
MR. THOMPSON: No. I have always—and that’s been my position the entire time I’ve been in politics. I thought Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided. I think this platform originally came out as a response to particularly Roe v. Wade because of that. Before Roe v. Wade, states made those decisions. I think people ought to be free at state and local levels to make decisions that even Fred Thompson disagrees with. That’s what freedom is all about. And I think the diversity we have among the states, the system of federalism we have where power is divided between the state and the federal government is, is, is—serves us very, very well. I think that’s true of abortion. I think Roe v. Wade hopefully one day will be overturned, and we can go back to the pre-Roe v. Wade days. But…
MR. RUSSERT: Each state would make their own abortion laws.
MR. THOMPSON: Yeah. But, but, but to, to, to have an amendment compelling—going back even further than pre-Roe v. Wade, to have a constitutional amendment to do that, I do not think would be the way to go.

If McCain wins Florida he goes into Super tuesday with a chunk of Florida’s 75 delegate that would almost tie him with Mitt.

That was his best strength, however he tried to cover it with something that it wasn’t.
Chakra Hammer on January 27, 2008 at 3:40 AM
In other words, like the Fed Reserve System, people reject things they dont understand. Since hte FEd has been ther for so long, they assume it is needed. Just like Katrina proved that the majority is mislead into thinking FEMA is responsible in saving your house or neighborhood instead of your local fire dept and mayor/Gov. being the first responders. So why bother having a mayor of Governor?

He was campaigning as the president of “conservatives”

Chakra Hammer on January 27, 2008 at 3:45 AM
William Amos Those are polls. And as I said before polls are way too often biased, staged, or end up wrong. We have no choice but to wait it out. The GOP has a real race on their hands unlike the Dems who are arguing racism more than war or how to keep industry in America.

Abortion’s shades of gray: by Michael Medved
Candidates and voters should properly answer two questions about abortion:
* Are you pro-abortion or anti-abortion?
* Are you pro-choice or anti-choice?
On this matrix, all the Democrats would count as both pro-choice and pro-abortion: They consider “a woman’s right to choose” a sacred guarantee in the Constitution, they work closely with strident “abortion rights” organizations, and at the last Democratic Convention hundreds of participants wore T-shirts declaring their pride in their own past abortions.
Most important, Clinton and her colleagues may decry abortions as a “tragedy,” but they still favor the use of taxpayer money to pay for the procedure. In other words, they not only back government sanction for abortion, but also (unlike Giuliani) government sponsorship.
On the other hand, nearly all the Republican candidates are both anti-abortion and anti-choice: They not only characterize abortion as immoral, but they also want legal bans on the procedure except in special circumstances, such as threats to the life of the mother.
Among the major candidates, only Giuliani stands in the middle: identifying a position that is, in fact, simultaneously anti-abortion and pro-choice. He backs policies designed to discourage or even sharply limit abortion, and he opposes the use of public money for abortions, while leaving final decisions to women and their doctors in most circumstances.
Voters on abortion
Polling data show that strong majorities of Americans share Giuliani’s mixed position. They want to restrict abortion, but they don’t want to outlaw it.
Chakra Hammer on January 27, 2008 at 4:19 AM

I think that look on Cindy McCain’s face was fear. Fear that John McCain would blow a gasket in front of the cameras in response to a question he didn’t like or a question from a reporter he doesn’t like! Which leads me to believe that in fact he will, eventually, blow a gasket big time on the air. Someone is going to push his button and he will explode. Anyway, that’s my read.

The ‘78 quote has to be assumed as factual to have any problem whatsoever. And it was 30 friggin’ years ago. That was the topic of conversation around here for a little while, I thought they tried to track down the author to confirm and he was iffy. Maybe I remember wrong, I wasn’t particularly impressed at the time. And I was considerably less favorable to him at the time.
The hunter thing is a self-inflicted wound. It’s a stupid thing to say – an exaggeration for pandering purposes probably.
Spirit of 1776 on January 27, 2008 at 9:54 AM
I would add that comparisons to Clinton do not strengthen the case to me. On one hand you have a guy who expressed something that most people immediately understood, but was revisited for those who did not. And the other hand you have a guy who intentionally mislead to avoid the consequences of his behavior. I view them completely different because the motive appears completely different.
Spirit of 1776 on January 27, 2008 at 10:10 AM
1)It is not “federalist” to oppose abortion on “Federalist” grounds. Either you are against abortion, and believe it to be murder, or you aren’t; being “anti-abortion” while silmutaneously saying that each state should decide is like saying each state should decide if murder is a crime – not how to punish it, but if it is a crime.
2)Romney’s dad did march with MLK. Look it up, there are witnesses.
3)Stop attacking a candidate’s wife. It wasn’t fair to Thompson, and it isn’t fair to lying, Swift-Bot denouncing, first-amendment silencing, shamnesty-backing, Kerry-and-Kennedy-loving (and not the good Kennedys), Keating Five McCain.

For everyone that says they would rather vote for a Democrat than McCain, please put the bottle down. At least he says he wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent; Clinton and Obama will give us Socialism Light, ravage our economy, and put the war on terror on the back burner.
McCain is far from my first choice, and I’m not going to vote for him in the Florida primary, but there’s no way the Democrats offer a better option.

I see Harald has joined his CHOSEN ONE love and now we have 2 Moron.org trolls. McCain is a Dem – deal with that fact

I just read emailnuevo calling McCain “Keating Five McCain” and I started wondering why doesn’t McCain get more blame for that. Is it too late? Just like Murtha is still able to be influential among Democrats despite Abscam. Even at my greater apparent level of forgiveness for mistakes than most people, I think McCain and Murtha went over the line.

Exactly what I have been advocating for the last few months. Both men show great promise. McCain offers nothing but the same old crap by the same old RINOs.
Jaun McRino isn’t going to get his way on tax relief or anything else with the democrats running both houses of congress, so that argument is void.
