Video: The sadly obligatory “Canadian brown finches” clip

It’s been at the top of the viral video charts since early this morning, when I first saw it. And vowed that I’d never be so desperate for content, that I’d never stoop so low, as to post crap like this.
But it’s Friday night and the pickings are slim. And so here we are. Inevitably.
One simple question, to which I’m already 99% sure I know the answer: There’s no way this is real, right? I’ve spent idle moments all day long googling for “7 action news” and “canadian brown finches” but I can’t get a smoking-gun, foolproof, ironclad yes or no answer and it’s starting to bug me. The anchorman seems way over the top and the graphics are just a bit too amateurish, but the phony(?) Tivo bar at the beginning is a nice touch. Also, the news ticker items at the bottom would seem to place the clip at the end of December, which makes it strange that it was only uploaded to YouTube a few days ago.
Total fake, right?

I say bogus. News crews usually aren’t that large. Four people? I count the reporter, cameraman, sound man, and some other dude who comes running. Usually, a news crew is just a cameraman and the reporter.

The only really big comment threads are debate threads and atheism threads and I’m weary of all the whining we get from aggrieved religious people about how intolerant I am to post things critical of faith and then give you all limitless opportunities to respond to them (and attack me). The biggest threads I ever saw (and while not checking religiously, I have been around since the beginning) were the recent debate threads which approached 2,000. But then again, I stay away from the atheism threads like the plague…

First of all, there’s no such thing as a Canadian Brown Finch.
Also, finch shit doesn’t look anything like what’s in the video; it’s tiny, not much bigger than a mouse turd.

I say real. I live near Detroit and grew up on their television networks. As soon as I started watching this, I thought the 7 Action News symbol looked like it was from the Detroit station amerpundit mentioned.
I didn’t recognize the reporter but I never watched or watch channel 7 news much. They did have anchor Bill Bonds though who appeared in one of ‘The Planet of the Apes’ movies.

Yeah, I suppose that sucks. But you’ve had more 400 comment threads in the last two weeks than in the last 6 months. Sadly, half of those comments come from HaraldHooHa, but no matter.
You’re still one of the best thinkers on the right side of the blogosphere, and fun as hell to read, even when you’re getting slapped around by your lessers. Or maybe especially when you’re getting slapped around.

I live in the Detroit area too, and there is a “Channel 7 Action News” but they are a little more polished than that (believe it or not) and besides, Detroit at the end of December is F’n COLD (snow) and the trees are pretty bare (Duh). My guess is California.

Total fake. I worked in TV news for several years. There’s only a cameraman, sound guy and a reporter on most “human interest” stories like this at the local level. The guy who comes in from camera left, I would only assume, is the shot director; however, I can hardly imagine a local news station bringing someone like that along.

As do I. I read AP’s point, usually, but I don’t read the rest of the thread. No one is going to convince anyone in that kind of forum, and they make me weary. I also get tired of the biting at Allah. You know, if you don’t like those threads, don’t read ‘em. And if you don’t like Allah, don’t read him. There’s no reason to get all huffy about it.

Could be an out take. The fourth crew member could be a college student interning. The news reader could have gotten the name of the bird wrong. There could be a county in Iowa where the locals mistakenly call a real bird a Canadian brown finch.
It could be fake. But I lean toward 10 or 15 year old out take.
Jackie and Dunlap have higher production values and sometimes I think they’re not serious.

Allah, HA is still my first site for information. We may not have agreed on Fred, but that issue is no longer an issue, and I loved you all along!
We all fight with family…but when it comes right down to it. Our loyalties always out.
As a Christian, I’ve never minded nor argued against the religious stuff. We’re not all so easily offended over religion.
However, as to those really long threads recently…some of them were long, and made even longer by periods of lighthearted nonsense to break tension. For that, I know I’m guilty…and unremorseful.
