McCain’s connection to…$oro$?
posted at 4:59 pm on January 25, 2008 by Bryan
Let me preface this post by saying that I would love to support John McCain for president. I would loooooove it. Electing him to the presidency would be the biggest and boldest finger in the eye to the Clinton crowd that this country could possibly provide. While Bill Clinton was protesting the Vietnam War from England, making a mysterious trip to the USSR, dodging the draft and declaring that he “loathes the military,” John McCain was in the clutches of the North Vietnamese as their guest at the Hanoi Hilton. Five years John McCain spent in that hellhole, while Clinton was shagging coeds in the back of his El Camino and maintaining his “political viability.” Electing John McCain, especially if he’s matched up against Hillary Clinton, would punch more hippies in one minute than Fred Thompson can punch in a year.
But.
The problem with electing John McCain to the presidency is that he would actually serve as president, so you have think past the glory of the moment when all those Vietnam War protesters realize that they have been rejected, to consider what kind of president McCain would actually make. And I don’t think he would make a very good one. It’s not just that he still doesn’t get it when it comes to border security. It’s not just that he really doesn’t know much about economics (though he does have impressive advisers around him). It’s not just that he’s weak on the rights of captured terrorists. And it’s not just that he’s apparently yet another unreliable Republican on judges. And it’s not just that he’s apparently funded by George Soros. It’s all of that. Put it all together, and I think McCain’s weaknesses outweigh his strengths, however wonderful it might be to elect him as a statement against the 1960s anti-America crowd. And believe it, that would be wonderful.
As for the Soros connection, Michelle has it. Go read it. McCain’s patriotic and honorable supporters really need to ask themselves some questions about all this. George Soros has been using millions of his billions to fund some of the most dishonest anti-war agitprop of the past few years. He funds MoveOn, the group that smeared Gen. David Petraeus. He funds the anti-war marchers. He funds the shills over at Media Matters. Soros has made it his life’s work to destroy the Bush administration in the middle of a war. He’s a truly despicable character. And McCain and at least two of McCain’s allies, including Juan Hernandez, are financially connected to him.
McCain certainly has some amazing strengths, especially in his biography of heroic service, but he carries some incredible baggage as well.

The fact that McCain spent five years in a Vietcong POW hellhole nor more qualifies him for the presidency than the fact that nearly losing his right arm and almost perishing on the beaches of Normandy qualified Bob Dole.

McCain is a dilemma wrapped up in an enigma. A patriot in Vietnam and supporting our troops and pro-life, he is to be admired. A sellout on the border, the Constitution, tax reform, and more, he is to be disliked.
I cannot vote for McCain.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential… Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.
My childhood was typical – summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we’d make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds – pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum – it’s breathtaking. I highly suggest you try it…

Yeah, but he’s still closely associated with the directors of the company. Duncan Hunter, with all of his faults, wrote a letter asking Mitt to take a stance on the Bain/China connection and didn’t get an answer. That’s why he ended up endorsing Huck.

mred on January 25, 2008 at 5:24 PM
I don’t know anything as to how much influence he has, but current and former Bain employees are very close to his campaign. I’m not sure how much I trust Duncan Hunter, who seems a bit conspiracy-minded to me, but he was worried enough to inquire directly and decline to endorse when he didn’t get an answer. He explicitly stated that that was the reason why he could not endorse Romney.

I would like to take Hunter more seriously, but he made it extremely difficult by endorsing Clinton-lite Gov. Huckabee. That makes little sense to me as Hunter explemplied the concern about nat.sec. and ill.imm. Huckabee is, um, weak on both those issues. So I have to question Hunter.
I am, by no means, desiring to shill for Mitt or to make his problems disappear. I just want the conversation to be factual. I haven’t seen anything yet with regard to Mitt and China that concerns me. In fact China was a part of his message in Michigan if I recall correctly.

To be fair, Soros has been funding immigration-related organizations for a while. It’s not like he’s doing this on account of an anti-Bush or anti-American impulse (although eh has been very anti-Bush and lined up against the administration often for the past 8 years.) So the fact that he wouldn’t endorse someone who ostensibly agrees with his views doesn’t bother you? Basically, it comes down to either Hunter being overly conspiracy-minded, or that there is some truth that he is basing his concerns upon. I’m not sure what to think about that.

-It’s a known fact, Bryan, that a secret society…of the six wealthiest people, known as the Pentavirate…run everything in the world, including the newspapers…and meet tri-annually at a secret mansion in Colorado known as…”The Meadows.”
-Who’s in the Pentavirate?
-The Queen, the Vatican, the Gettys, the Rothschilds and George Soros…and Colonel Sanders, before he went tits-up. I hated the Colonel, with his wee beady eyes…and that smug look on his face. “Ooohhh, you’re gonna buy my chicken!”

No. It bothers me. I just don’t know what to make of it yet. I assumed that he would endorse Romney because Tancredo did. But I was watching Cavuto when Neil asked him if he would also endorse Mitt…and he answered with a No, because of China. But I’m saying I don’t know any facts about it except for the fact that Mitt is not at Bain. So I have one fact and one opinion (Hunter’s). I haven’t got them to match up yet, for me to take Hunter’s warning, I need facts.

I just came across this, and as a McCain supporter now myself, I will see what Michelle has found. I’d like to see what the Soros “connection” is…and if there’s any, McCain needs to “dis-connect” it ASAP.
But that being said, I have to say that was very well put by Bryan above. Well-written sentiment, done with class. Cheers.
This really has turned into some Pres. primary season. The Dem’s are at each other’s throats, and the Repubs aren’t faring much better amongst ourselves. Honestly, I can’t wait until the nominees are in place, and we can focus this anger and frustration at the other party…where it belongs… and not at our own side.

I recall before the last election the comments here about how the party was not acting like the party should; how many folks would just stay home on election day to protest.

He is retired from Bain and his holdings are in a blind trust. He has no control over Bain’s business decisions.
The non-compete/confidentiality stuff just means that if he were to start a new corporation or go work somewhere else, he could not steal employees from Bain and so forth.
This is standard stuff. In some instances one could have a fairly low level job with a company and not be allowed to work for another company in that industry and/or in that market for a specified period of time because of access to confidential/competitive information.

In late September, Bain requested a national security review with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, a 12-agency group with the authority to recommend the White House block or alter terms of deals that involve national security.
Acquirers often request national security views if they believe issues might arise as a show of good faith to the government that they want to address any concerns.

Bryan, this is false. You are one of a number of so-called conservatives who are engaged in a dirty, warped attack on John McCain. You are thus going down a very dirty road that will come back to haunt you.
If you think that you can pull a 2000 against John McCain and all wiill be well, you at Hot Air are being nothing but damn fools. You are helping to elect Hillary Clinton, to cut up the Republican Party and to soil conservatism.
This is 2008. The opponent wll be the Clintons, not an overrated Al Gore. The Republican establishment is largely with John McCain. And at a time we are engaged in a struggle with radical Islamic extremism, you would forego the guy (McCain) who is heads above everyone else in terms of being qualified to be Commander in Chief and who showed he knows his stuff with respect to the Iraq War –whch is why among others former Secretaries of State Schultz, Kissinger, Eagleburger and Haig have all edorsed McCain. Military matters and foreign policy should be the strong suit of Republicans, but they won’t be with Romney.
Notably, reported on page A4 of today’s Wall Street Journal are the latest poll matchups between leading Republicans against Hillary and Obama. McCain is shown as being tied with Obama and beating Hillary. Romney, Guiliani and Huckabee are shown as losing by wide margins to Obama and Hillary, with the widest loss margins against Romney.
You have been told.
