If the Republican candidate, whomever, does not play the “illegal immigrant will take your job” card, they are not worth choosing.
This is the fear card that can tilt the election. Here it is:
Do you want your job taken by an illegal immigrant? After 10 years on the job, do you want to be the one holding the sign in a Home Depot parking lot? Well, all of you union men, and blue collar men and woman, the people this country shoulders we stand on, your job is at risk. VERY clear. As Zogby indicated. Even 61% of Dems. don’t want amnesty (50% attrition and 11% mass deportations).
Note this is the ONLY poll that offers all three choices. Most other polls only offered Bush’s and McCain’s false dichotomy: “We can’t deport 12 million yada yada, THEREFORE we have to reward them with instant residency and a pathway to citizenship.” Bullcrap.

If only Mitt (only remaining candidate not guaranteed to sign Shamnesty ‘09?) would pound on this every chance.

Americans want attrition through enforcement. It’s law enforcement, stupid. It’s a winning issue.

And I wear Geraldo’s badge of “malignant” proudly. Just like Graham’s “bigots” badge.

That electability gap poll is a complete sham, for the following reasons:

1. Sample size: that is a hyper-anorexic sample which can’t even be taken seriously.
2. National polling doesn’t matter when elections are decided by electoral votes!

To figure out how candidates would do in the election, pollsters have to survey each state separately and find out which candidates would win each state against each other, and which of them would then win the election based on the electoral vote tally from it.

A small sample size like that will easily favor the more liberal urban centers and throw it all out of whack. Polls like that shouldn’t even be allowed to be released, they are 100% meaningless.

National Polls mean nothing right now with the national elections so far away. 6 months ago it was all Rudy and the soon to enter the race Fred. Now the polls are for McCain and Huckabee.. Using a poll to prove a point is worthless considering how wrong the polls were in NH.

I think it’s going to come down to a brokered convention with delegates being a deciding factor. I don’t see McCain or Huckabee winning a ton of delegates by winning over smaller southern states, while Mitt already has a sizeable lead in delegates by finishing first in 3 races and 2nd in 2 of them. Pretty good record despite the media’s infatuation with their liberal leaning McCain.
