OK. So either you’re not very bright or you are being deliberately obtuse. Who, in your imagination, do you think is listening on the other end. When you think “Government”, think DMV because THAT is how government is expressed. That is what you get when you have government involved. Low level bureaucrats are the oars of the ship of state. You seem to be buying into the fallacy that government can’t fight terrorism and respect civil rights at the same time. Where do you get such a notion? I don’t mind surveillance as long as it is done within constitutional bounds. What I am against is a blank check for the next Lib Executive that wants to maintain power. I want to be protected from them as well. Why don’t you?

At first I was reflexively in favor of Guantanamo and I still think we need to incarcerate the enemy as long as they pose a threat. However, on further consideration it occurred to me that I have no idea who is there and why. Can the government just grab anyone and declare them “Enemy Combatants”? How do WE know they are enemy? Couldn’t they just grab anyone and place them there with no recourse for the imprisoned? You may be OK with Bush doing it but what if Hillary is elected? Do you just trust her to do right thing? Are you sure that she will only listen to non citizen terrorists? Is that the kind of power you want to give her? What keeps government from abusing this power? What safeguards do we have against false imprisonment. Once you set the precedent it becomes a matter of degree. If the government want’s this kind of suspension of civil rights then it should declare martial law. If the crisis does not warrant such a declaration then they are bound to recognize the Natural Rights of all people, including the enemy. Recognizing those rights is what separates us from them.IMHO

A warrant is mandatory. Don’t try to scare me with sleeper cells and other threats. A warrant is a necessary protection of our rights.

Here here! I don’t trust the Government. The founding fathers in their wisdom set checks on executive power. I don’t care if it’s “For the Children” or to stop hypothetical terror attack. You stay out of my business unless you have a warrant.

You don’t trust the government. Who do you whine to when your parade gets rained on? Who do you whine to when you lose your job and miss a paycheck? Who do you whine to everytime you have any disscomfort in your life? The government, that’s who. Guess who you blame as well?
Do you think for one single minute, that someone in an intelligence agency, IRS, some social agency or any agency related to the government couldn’t legally expose your dirty little secrets. What about what the ACLU could do to you, and has done to people not of their ilk?
It’s groups that claim to be protecting your rights that are directly responsible for nearly three thousand murders on September eleventh, 2001st.
It’s time to stop playing paddy cakes and deal accordingly with the entities that want to harm The United States and its’ people.
