While we await the GOP debate, let’s watch Japan revel in its disaster fantasies. This monster is being created by projecting the image on a screen of water vapor.

Very Star Wars hologram like – pretty cool!
VeniVidiVidic on January 24, 2008 at 7:52 PM
There as always a Japanese fantasy after their WWII defeat to have some mythical beast rise up and defend Japan. Godzilla being the most famous.
In fact much of Japanese folklore talks of Japan being defended by the supernatural.
Nowadays we have Algore rise from the disaster of global warming to defend us by fighting manbear pig
William Amos on January 24, 2008 at 7:53 PM
didn’t godzilla destroy japan at first – to represent nuclear power? then became a symbol of defense for japan later on?
lorien1973 on January 24, 2008 at 7:56 PM
Yeah. Godzilla is basically an unintentional metaphor or stand-in for the US. Its relationship to Japan tracks a similar trajectory to ours.
Bryan on January 24, 2008 at 7:58 PM
Absolutely fabulous, but not against Killer Cars
Kini on January 24, 2008 at 7:59 PM
that is pretty cool but it needs the guys from MXC to narrate it. Its time for Kenny Blankenships most painful eliminations of the day!!!!!!!! LOL
Kevin43 on January 24, 2008 at 7:59 PM
What? Again?
TX Mom on January 24, 2008 at 8:00 PM

bnelson44 on January 24, 2008 at 8:04 PM
That looks terrific!
Wouldn’t be surprise if there isn’t one in Vegas, too.
RushBaby on January 24, 2008 at 8:08 PM
Cool. They also have grooves in their highways that make music as you drive over them, so your tires become like phonogragh needles.

Very true. It goes back much further than WW2 however. Consider the original Kamikaze, or “divine wind” which thwarted Kublai Kahn and the Mongol hoards as they attempted to cross the sea to invade Japan in 1274. That supernatural wind destroyed a force of 100,000 Mongols.

Ya know, as weird as they fundamentally are, sometimes, you’ve just gotta love the Japanese. They do it with such intensity, whatever that it is that they do, that you just have to laugh and say good onya! Example: Weird, but captivating on some level:

And they can laugh at themselves, unlike most other Asian countries (I’d like to think we helped here a bit):

Thanks Bryan. I just needed an excuse to post these and you provided it!

They do that water vapor trick at a casino called ’silverstar’ in Mississippi. It’s very cool.

Oh great, water vapour monsters,it better have
Blue Oyster Cult song “Godzilla” as the back
ground music.
Since my mind is on a tear, what else could they
make from water vapour, something smutty no doubt!
canopfor on January 24, 2008 at 8:40 PM

canopfor on January 24, 2008 at 8:44 PM
Disney has been doing this for years. It’s called Fantasmic. And it’s better. Why? Because there’s fire too. And Mickey Mouse. Nuff said.
robblefarian on January 24, 2008 at 9:17 PM
Thanks Canopfor! Although rice 3 times a day is getting old. I have to sneak out for a burger every once in a while… :)

SECOND LOOK AT GODZILLA
Actually it went something like this Godzilla was the villain then after Godzilla vs. mothera{watch the movie he wasn’t really a bad guy he was just real clumsy } then Godzilla became the defender of the world {I think the first Pro world Godzilla was Ghidorah the three headed monster also Godzilla chief nemesis}then in the mid 90’s he became the villain again{ I believe it was Godzilla vs. mechagodzilla 2} then in 2004 {Final war}Godzilla was a tweenier not only did he attack earth forces but then became the power that saved earth from the alien invaders . And there were actually 4 different Godzilla’s {3 died 1 in the original 1 in Godzilla vs. biolantra and 1 in Godzilla vs. destroyah} not counting meina in final wars. I know way to much about the G-man

Thanks for the link, Herikutsu! I don’t read Japanese, but I decided to click on it anyway. I assume you read enough English to surf this blog…
As one of the commentors on YouTube said, “That Pinklady song was too revolutional its time to understand!”
Heh.
As for the monster in the harbor: I suspect the involvement of the Disneyland Japan “imagineers.” This kind of projection technology is standard practice at Disneyworld Orlando.
