I think we might be surprised to see how many “true conservatives” will NOT vote for McCain.

I think you might be surprised to see how many “true conservatives” will NOT vote for Romney. When the general election comes around, and IF by some miracle Romney is the nominee, I will by no means vote for him, and in fact I will campaign heavily against him. The man is democrat in Republican clothing.

A RINO of the most obvious sort. Human Events magazine even named Romney as one of the top ten biggest RINO’s, yet we never hear a peep out of Malkin, Limbaugh, and other establishment goons about this because they can control slick mitt and he fits in with their agenda.

His supporters are just as shiesty and hateful as he seems to be.

Take what they say and reverse it, like Willy Wonka says…

They WANT McCain, because he will follow in the footsteps of another “war hero” Bob Dole…

Again, the discussion is not whether or not Dems or independents will vote for McCain. It’s whether or not CONSERVATIVES will vote for McCain, which they will not.

Since you’re the one who brought up polls, let’s see what they have to say:

South Carolina: McCain got 26% of self-described conservatives.

Nationally, 31% of those polled describe him as “conservative”.

In Florida only 15% of conservatives are backing him, but that’s still good for 3rd place amongst that demographic.

While McCain does appeal to moderates much more than to conservatives, I don’t see evidence that conservatives won’t vote for him. I won’t, but most will if it comes down to McCain vs Hillary or Obama.

And yes- if there was a do-over button that prevented any of the remaining candidates- Republican or Democrat- from winning, I’d push it in a heartbeat. But in the end my opinion has approximately zero impact in who wins or loses.

Well, that’s not exactly what I was saying. Hillary is in the process of running to the left at this moment. A few months ago, when Hillary was inevitable, she started to run a general election campaign. She began to move to the middle. The Kos crowd went bazzerk and she had to do a bit of a U turn and head back to the left once it became clear that Obama was actually going to give her a fight. She’ll have those anti-war votes nice and secure come general election time. They certainly won’t be voting for McCain. In other words, the independents (largely anti-war) and Democrats (entirely anti-war) will most certainly vote for Hillary once she is matched up against McCain. That is why the MSM is dying for McCain to win the primary – the independents that he is so heavily reliant upon will march like lemmings into the Clinton camp. That election will be one of the most lopsided elections in the history of the United States. It will be completely embarrasing to the republican party. The MSM will say the Reps put up their most electable candidate yet still lost in a landslide. Truthfully, the only real chance the Republicans have to be competitive this time around is if they elect someone the base can get extremely excited about. At this early stage it doesn’t look good. But we shall see.

Well, I’m certainly glad you’re not trying to be insulting. And yes, I’ve checked and I still have my balls, although they are a bit tender at the moment.

If I were to have applied your standards to candidates during past elections, I would’ve stayed out of most of them. Hell, I don’t even need to be registered to vote because my candidate-of-choice never seems to win. I should just withdraw to the backwoods of Idaho, build a shelter and stock up on canned goods until this sham we call “representative democracy” blows over.

Sorry. Ron Paul was nowhere on these polls and your comparison is completely off base.

McCain and Huckabee would’ve dropped out months ago, with Fred being a frontrunner. But it isn’t representative of the voting public, unfortunately.

Last I checked, Huckabee is on life support. As for McCain, it’s been explained many times but you’re apparently ignoring the explanation that McCain is winning on the backs of independent voters in open primaries.

Simply put, I’m not about to sit out a national election cycle. If it boils down to voting for the least offensive candidate in November, that’s exactly what I’ll do.
