How does Governor Fred sound?

Good enough as a consolation prize, ‘Heads? It’s down south and an executive position, but if he wins you’re bound to see less of him on TV and radio.
This Associate said that when an elected official runs for president, and experiences the day-in, day-out relentlessness of making their case and articulating their ideas, they tend to recall why they got into politics in the first place. This Associate said that in the last six weeks or so, Thompson really enjoyed campaigning, and began to express how much he enjoyed campaigning in Tennessee.
This Associate then suggested that Thompson is interested in getting into another race someday, and “the calendar and where things are” made the most likely possibility the next governor’s race in Tennessee, which is in 2010.
If he’s hot to campaign, he could always go stumping for Congresswoman Jeri. Exit question: Who’s really to blame for Fred’s campaign-trail sluggishness? Heart-ache.
Update: What might have been.

Sounds great if he moves to Texas!

Nope.
LickyLicky on January 24, 2008 at 2:57 PM
What’s more upsetting? That it was Ace’s fault? Or that it wasn’t yours?
lorien1973 on January 24, 2008 at 2:57 PM
Hey if Hillary or Obama picks Phil Bredesen as a runnung mate (which would, incidentally, almost guarantee them a win in November), there could be an opening in the Tennessee state house pretty soon.
Big S on January 24, 2008 at 2:58 PM
Thank god Simon didn’t name me. I’d never hear the end of it from heartbroken Fredheads.
ACE’S FAULT.
Allahpundit on January 24, 2008 at 2:58 PM
You’re sucking the marrow out of this the same as you did with iPhone.
Stephen M on January 24, 2008 at 2:58 PM
“Congressman Jeri”… sounds good. What district would that be? And probability of victory?
Vizzini on January 24, 2008 at 2:58 PM
Fredalanche!
CABE on January 24, 2008 at 2:58 PM
It’s too bad Huckabee doesn’t read ace’s site.
Slublog on January 24, 2008 at 2:59 PM
Pssst. Don’t read the Fred posts.
Allahpundit on January 24, 2008 at 2:59 PM
HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!! Now I kinda wish he had named you instead of Ace.
doubleplusundead on January 24, 2008 at 3:00 PM
That’s what I was thinking. With Perry out, I would love it. He could call it his Crockett Campaign.

Only if he could run in my state, Missouri.

There is a small island, somewhere in the Pacific, looking for a governor…it is a relaxing, peaceful place, with a slow pace, a place of tranquility…a perfect fit.
right2bright on January 24, 2008 at 3:02 PM
Governor Fred sounds fine. Governor of Pennsylvania that is.
MarkoMancuso on January 24, 2008 at 3:03 PM
Governor Jeri sounds even better. More presidential.
pedestrian on January 24, 2008 at 3:03 PM
I loved Fred’s commentaries. I believe that his views are right on! I support Mitt over Fred because of Mitt’s administrative, managerial and financial skills.
Fred would have made a good president and should make an excellent govenor.
He could also make a good vice president.
Fred; All the best!

Hey Torch, we now, as of 2 days ago, have a big opening here. I wonder if this is part of Blunt’s Master Plan?
Don’t run for re-election…. Fred beats the tar outta Nixon… Bond resigns for health reasons…. Fred! appoints Blunt to Bond’s seat…. Fred runs in ‘12 and crushes Hillary in a Reaganesque Defeat with Blunt as VP… Blunt creams Chelsea in ‘20….
Boy, this Fredhead needs less time on his hands!
JamesLee on January 24, 2008 at 3:13 PM
Huh? I thought it was your fault that Fred’s campaign fizzled …?!?
(scratching head)
thirteen28 on January 24, 2008 at 3:14 PM
Maybe she is the one behind Bill’s outbursts. She knows she could never win if Hillary wins.
“Daddy, I just heard that man say…”
Just like her parents, sniff.

Fred can run for Senator in Florida and replace crappy, incompetent Martinez.
Enoxo on January 24, 2008 at 3:19 PM
Here is an idea, let’s write him in for president and we can share him.
TheSitRep on January 24, 2008 at 3:20 PM
VP, Governor, it doesn’t matter. Fred! is always a winner when he gets to go home every night to this.

Woo hoo.. a Tennessean as a Texas Governor!
Deja vu all over again.. ;-)
Actually, I hear that Kay Bailey-Hutchison is going to give it a run when Perry is done. I think she can take it and keep us Red!

natesnake on January 24, 2008 at 3:30 PM
Sounds better than nothin’, but not as good as Vice-President Fred.
CP on January 24, 2008 at 3:30 PM
Read your article and I feel the same way.
I ain’t even gonna watch the debates. I pull the lever for Mitt, but if Mitt isn’t the nominee, I’ll write in Fred.

(misspelled on purpose)
Him and his “Proceeds benefit older politicians” gambling and lottery.
Lynn Swann soooooooooo shoud have won.
mrfixit on January 24, 2008 at 3:52 PM
Maybe Fred could challenge the Jerkinator?
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on January 24, 2008 at 3:52 PM
Yeah, I can’t wait to get Fast Eddie out of office. Sad part is, Lynn Swann was probably a worse campaigner than Fred. Beyond that, he didn’t really have a good grasp on issues, dude was a really, really weak candidate.
doubleplusundead on January 24, 2008 at 3:55 PM
Thanks. I know it isn’t too popular an idea amongst the win at all costs crowd.
SimplyKimberly on January 24, 2008 at 3:58 PM
I’m willing to begin the Draft Fred for Texas Governor Campaign. He would fit in real well down here. And Perry is a turkey.

Yeah. I don’t who else we could have run. I don’t think Santorum could have done much better.
MarkoMancuso on January 24, 2008 at 4:03 PM
Yeah, have him run in Missouri, the job is open right now.
dean_acheson on January 24, 2008 at 4:03 PM
Kinder threw his hat in the ring, but I don’t think he stands a chance against Nixon here in Missouri.
That last sentence…..EEEEWWWWW, YUCK!
Torch on January 24, 2008 at 4:07 PM
Me says, YES!! And I can vote for him.
bubby62 on January 24, 2008 at 4:14 PM
Ooops, that didn’t exactly sound right did it?
JamesLee on January 24, 2008 at 4:24 PM
She didn’t gut anything, she stood up for Texas land owners to have a say in how much of their land was taken by the feds and whether it was a physical or tech or combination of security barrier. Some ranchers in Texas rely on the Rio Grande to water their cattle. Last time I checked .. individual rights to ones own property was still a Republican core value.
Texas Gal on January 24, 2008 at 4:56 PM
Fred as Governor,sounds good,VP would be better(sigh)!
canopfor on January 24, 2008 at 5:11 PM
Heh.
Everyone knows he is just drumming up his profile for Lieutenant Governor.
Valiant on January 24, 2008 at 5:19 PM
No compromises or consolation prizes. He is dead to me!
(Kidding, kidding…)
Grayson on January 24, 2008 at 5:41 PM
If only he’d move to Wisconsin to run for governor,….
steveegg on January 24, 2008 at 5:47 PM
I am really turned off by all you New Yawk elitists who think we Southerners are a bunch of rubes. What makes you think we’re any more foolish then the voters in Iowa or New Hampshire? They saw through Fred’s fraud. What makes you think Tennesseans won’t see through it? They will realize he is a pro-choice federalist posing as a pro-lifer. They will be turned off by his lobbying activities and terrorist enabling. They will not appreciate his devotion to Spencer Abraham’s open border agenda. His Tennessee contributors will not forget how he stole their money after he dropped out of his last race by funneling the money through a PAC to his son. And the barefoot toothless banjo playing moonshiners will never forget how he relentlessly pursued the big bad Federal government’s war on their hooch. No. The Tennessee voters will not be fooled again.
tommylotto on January 24, 2008 at 5:59 PM
No, because I don’t want to move to Tennesee! I’d rather him be Veep or a frequent commentator on issues. Something more national so that all Fredheads can enjoy :)

Aslans Girl on January 24, 2008 at 6:32 PM
Oh, just wanted to add that just the other night I was thinking “watch him run for TN governor now because he’s all fired up”… so I’m not surprised by this. I’ve read over and over again how he had just started to like the actual campaigning, he saw how much a true conservative was longed for, and he realized how he was the only true conservative in the race. I just don’t want to be jealous of Tennesseans if they get him as Governor (’specially when I’m here stuck with Blagojevich).
-Aslan’s Girl
Aslans Girl on January 24, 2008 at 6:36 PM
Hey tommylotto,
I live in Nashville, was raised in Boston, and would vote for Thompson as governor in a HEARTBEAT. Fred would’ve been re-elected to his senate seat had he not stuck to the promise he gave voters of “two terms and I’m out”.
Fred’s out of the race. Give your hate a rest man.
Tman on January 24, 2008 at 6:41 PM
No, No, No. Fred does not need to run for Governor. Fred needs to be the Attorney General in the next administration.
schmuck281 on January 24, 2008 at 9:20 PM
BTW, I actually wish I could live in Tennessee sometimes, especially with windchills approaching 30 below zero where I live, it sounds quite welcome! Just that I am rooted where I am. Hopefully Fred will take something national… *crosses fingers for VP*.
