Hillary getting a bad rap on “brooms and vacuum cleaners” line to Latino audience

posted at 10:40 am on January 24, 2008 by Allahpundit

Would a woman known for enjoying an occasional ethnic joke and clumsily tailoring her message to minority audiences really stoop to a stereotype like this? Well … yeah, probably — but she didn’t. We picked up the ABC item in headlines last night and the Freepers have been in hog heaven with it for hours but in fact the “brooms” line is campaign boilerplate for her. The boss snarked about it months ago. No “macaca moment,” then. Or, if you want to apply the Time magazine standard, maybe it is!

Here’s a little candy to make it up to you. First, from WaPo’s report on Hillary’s desperate distortion of Obama’s comments on Reagan:

For some rank-and-file Democrats, the tack against Obama is prompting a reevaluation of Clinton and her husband. Bill Clinton gained enormous popularity among Democrats in the 1990s partly because of his ability to achieve tactical triumphs over Republicans. Now, watching the use of rough-edged tactics against a fellow Democrat, some of those who supported him then are having second thoughts.

“They’re obvious distortions,” said Ralph Byrd, a retired electrical engineer in Greenville, S.C., who voted for Clinton in 1992 and 1996. “We’ve had enough spin in the White House the last eight years, and we don’t need any more. It’s deliberate distortion that we don’t need.”

And second, this. Go crazy — like a Hillary worker with his own free hotel room!

The mistake is understandable. Hillary Clinton and Brooms go together like Bill Clinton and Interns.

“Obama hasn’t done his spadework” – HRC
“Obama is just the neighboring boy” - HRC surrogate

I’d like to add a snarky remark here, but I think her campaign speaks for itself.

pathetic.

The point is that while some media sources are willing to bend over backwards to smear the GOP nominees, Clinton’s gaffe will be met with a sudden burst of responsible journalism.

Hah, of course the DUmmies assume the poster of the hotel article is a troll.

Is McCain a RINO?
Is the Pope Catholic?
Does a wild bear chip in the woods?
Did Bill have sex with that woman?

Here’s a interesting story about the town of Mexico, Maine sending their liberal governor a message about illegals. A snippet: “Mexico Selectmen voted tonight to send a second letter in asking Governor Baldacci to rescind his order which, in effect provides protection to illegal aliens and makes them eligible for more privileges.”

Wow bobby04040, that was annoying as hell.

As for this post, this is why AP is indispensable. It would be easy to write up a thoughtlessly, partisan post lambasting Hillary on this, but I prefer the objectivity.

Aw, don’t pay any attention to Dave S. I used to live in Maine and I enjoyed it.

It’s the arbitrary and distracting bold text I found annoying. Maine seems okay.

The so-called jounalists will react to this the same way they did with Billy Jeff back in the 90s.

She’s clever, brilliant, a masterful tactician, the best politician evah.

In other words, she can lie with the best of them …. and that my friends would be Bill.

fogw on January 24, 2008 at 11:22 AM

She’s such a freaking idiot. She always says the stupidest things. “I’m not some little woman standing by my man like Tammy Wynette…” “I didn’t choose to stay home and bake cookies…” “Brings your brooms and vacuums to the White House!” Does she enjoy randomly offending large segments of our population???

The Dems own the minorities and have a place for them. If these untermensch of the Liberals are legal, have good jobs and are self sufficient they might actually vote Republican…..and we can’t be having that.

Hillary has a lock on the Latino vote

bnelson44 on January 24, 2008 at 12:07 PM

…”if this is the way a campaign is managed how well would the White House be managed.” Did this person MISS the 90′s and the aftermath of the Clintoon ‘admnistration’? HELLO?…Despite the way they left the WH–like The Grinch, drug dealers, graffitti artists and vandals?
Anyone remember Hilly’s memo to the women who worked in the WH: ‘You must wear underwear’?
WHO IN HEAVEN’S NAME WANTS A REPEAT OF ALL THAT, AND MORE?

Christine on January 24, 2008 at 12:15 PM

Hillary has a lock on the Latino vote…I would say ‘Si!’ only because, if they vote, they won’t vote for a black man. Just a general observation!

Christine on January 24, 2008 at 12:19 PM

That’s a very far-reaching generalization. Barack Obama earned 65-75% of the Latino vote during his past campaigns. Cities all across America have black elected officials getting Latino votes. Furthermore, you ignore the fact that many Latinos span the racial spectrum. Many Latinos are also black.

Yes, there are political and community clashes between blacks and Latinos. But that does not mean “they won’t vote for a black man.”

Just a general observation.

The Race Card on January 24, 2008 at 12:35 PM

If the “rank-and-file democrats” are only now “reevaluating” the Clintons as to their propensity to lie and distort, well then, they deserve her. What a pathetic group that party is. Let me explain it to them: When your guy (and his gal) are lying, immoral, corrupt, power-hungry animals, they tend to be that way with EVERYONE. You bought ‘em. You own ‘em. And now you’re stuck with ‘em. Have a nice day.

Rational Thought on January 24, 2008 at 12:46 PM

I think I’ve said this before, but I firmly believe that HRC is hedging her bets by tying up the Mexican vote. She knows she’s going to have trouble getting the blacks in the primaries. With the natural tendency toward racial conflict between the two groups, she has chosen to divide and conquer the party.
