Sweet consensus on the point raised yesterday about whether it’s fair for Billy Jeff to campaign for Hillary (answer: yes) but there’s a split of sorts on whether Hillary’s really trying to win the black vote. MM makes the case that she is, but I’m skeptical. I think what Hillary’s really doing is damage control, knowing that she can’t win among blacks in the primary but also knowing that she can’t afford to alienate them for the general by polarizing the race too obviously by race. See also Kaus’s post on the “ghettoization” of Obama, precisely the sort of thing his post-racial campaign has been designed to avoid but which he may be saddled with whether he likes it or not, especially if South Carolina ends up being close and the media seizes on the “race won it for him!” narrative.
You can see MM’s sympathies towards Obama (and KP’s too, to some extent) in this clip. He’s America’s best hope for defeating identity politics. What a shame he has to be such a leftist.
Unrelated to the above but worthy of mention just because a Rush shout-out always is, here’s Limbaugh loading his rifle with Malkin-brand ammo on a RINO hunt for McCain.

Michelle said: “The democrap party needs an enema.” Yes, and better make it an extra large.
Great job Michelle.

You have to wonder if it’s dawned on him that if he were the exact same guy he is personally and oratorically but a Republican with the philosophy of governance of Ronald Reagan, he’d be on the widest, smoothest glidepath to the White House in history.
Of course, bear in mind that the very bad news is that no matter how fracttious this gets on their side, it’s all healed when/if she picks him as her running mate.
More and more they’re looking like JFK and LBJ to me.
Typhoon on January 23, 2008 at 6:53 PM
Haha, that’s a great mental image.
AbaddonsReign on January 23, 2008 at 6:58 PM
Michelle is absolutely right.
And before this is all over, Kirsten will probably need an enema too. Endless denials and spinning can get you all clogged up.
Always Right on January 23, 2008 at 7:03 PM
I think that a higher percentage of Republicans want to vote for a black guy, but will not do because of his politics.
I think a higher percentage of Dems will vote for him because he is black, regardless of what his politics are.
Maybe we’ll get lucky down the road and he’ll become independent or Rep. If he loses, I would love to see some influential Republicans cozy up to him and start whispering in his ear.
Imagine an Obama delivery of the Republican platform. I can dream, right.

KP: “Of course Obama is being double teamed, what else did you expect?”
That there is comedy gold.
Mcguyver on January 23, 2008 at 7:09 PM
White Liberals always think they own the black vote wiht all the pandering they do.
But they are the ones that create race baiters like Sharpton and Jackson and dont understand why when they do that they turn on their “Masters”

…and that shout out from El Rushbo was great too. His daily email, Rush in a Hurry had a link to a Hot Air story back on Jan. 17th.
You know what they say, birds of feather flock together.
Zorro on January 23, 2008 at 7:11 PM
I think the Clintons did try to marginalize Obama by making him the ‘black’ candidate, which is a real shame. I think she is more than willing to slough off the black vote for now, because she can afford to win the primary on identity politics, and then expect them to rally to her in the general. Obama was making grown reporters cry, so they had to do something to end his appeal and the best way, and the dirtiest, is to go back to identity politics. A bitter pill for Obama because he has run a campaign on the idea that one can transcend self and situation.
No problem with Bill campaigning. After all, his political history is going to be held against her in the general.
Spirit of 1776 on January 23, 2008 at 7:18 PM
For some reason, I think she will choose Bill Richardson as a running mate. He seemed to suck up to her at the debates.
terryannonline on January 23, 2008 at 7:23 PM
Maybe, but one of the results of her painting Obama as the black candidate is that she secured a large percentage of the Latino vote, which ostensibly be the reason for her to invite Gov Richardson onto her ticket. I think the way that things played out in Nevada really speak to the success of her strategy. A side ‘bonus’ is that she will be able to dismiss a SC primary win by Obama as won by the black vote and not really representative of his general appeal.
Spirit of 1776 on January 23, 2008 at 7:28 PM
I hope you’re right. But if she rips up Obama and then walks away, man…
It could get kinds of ugly we haven’t even thought of.

Sorry, should not be posting while eating pizza.
Wade on January 23, 2008 at 7:33 PM
Rush speculates on Morris piece, (without attribution), that the Clintons will lose SC and point out the black vote to play the race card.
I think Rush is right on, but my slant is Obama took the white vote in Iowa and is well liked across racial lines. If the Clinton southern strategy is to inflame the white democratic vote it may backfire. If Wolfson or McCauliff do infer this after SC, the black vote is lost and the white vote may not all go to HRC because of her negatives. Food for thought……
Starlink on January 23, 2008 at 7:40 PM
I think they’ve got the Messiah boxed on this. Push, provoke, back off, bring it up againg, apologize, always thru surrogates. Kaus and Morris are right.
They can’t beat Jesus Christ, but they sure can beat Jesse Jackson.
The Clintons and dirty politics. “Nobody does it better.”
commissar on January 23, 2008 at 7:43 PM
Did anyone else notice that Heather referred to the Clintons as Hill and Billary? Was that a slip? Was it intentional? Or was it … wink, wink … an intentional slip?
JimmyHuck on January 23, 2008 at 7:47 PM
You know, speculating that Hillary will tap Obama as Veep if she gets the nom makes me wonder if the reverse is true. Would Obama tap Hillary to be Veep if he gets it? Wonder what that would do to his chances of winning the White House?

A shout-out from a drug addled gasbag. That’s always worth celebrating.

steveegg on January 23, 2008 at 8:15 PM
Vely intelesting! The Boss thinks Barracko actually has a chance against the Clintdumbs, huh! If he indeed gets the nom then it could be 2 democraps - a racist black muslim against Abels’ brother Cain, er, Mc Cain? What a choice! What a disaster for America. In either case — NO FENCE!
countywolf on January 23, 2008 at 8:38 PM
Good job by Michelle. The hostess said Hill and Billary toward the end of the clip. funny.
But the problem with this process isn’t with any of the candidates, it’s with the 2 party system. You all better pray that McCain doesn’t get the nomination because what on earth would you talk about if you had to express support for an R as a conservative?
Do you start supporting a third party instead? I think that the African Americans are ready to start their own third party candidacy. Obama could probably run and win third party. One question. . . if there are 4 parties running, does that mean that there are 2 third party candidates?
One thing that I’ll be grateful for if McCain wins the nomination is that the country will be looking to end the monopoly of the two party system in favor of a government that actually represents its people.

Michelle your on top of your game, and your absoluetly
right an anema is coming. If this feud keeps going,it’s
going to be an all out brawl at the convention.
On one hand you have Bill and Hill who want the Liberal party to stay as is,lock step, don’t get out of line,
we are the only party that can take care of you.
Obama on the otherhand is saying I want change,no I won’t
stay in line,I will not lock step with you,and we are tired
of the Liberal party status quo,we had fifty years of this
Liberal party saying we can’t do it.
So Obama wants a new direction for the Liberal Party,
and for Hillary and especially Slick Willy who wants a
third term, its not going to happen.

Just had supper at Perkins. My delightful young black waittress and I got to talking about politicians. She said she was extremely offended by Bubba nodding off at the MLK ceremony. She said, “Why did he even bother to come?” Doesn’t care for “his wife” either. Hope she’s indicative of a growing segment of American blacks.
whitetop on January 23, 2008 at 11:02 PM
RC, I agree completely with your first point, as the Michael Steele candidacy showed. I call it voluntary affirmative action; a great percentage of Americans want to see an end to areas of our society where minority citizens have not gone.
Blacks who have achieved extraordinary success in the GOP and conservative America have been celebrated greatly — Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, Condi Rice was adored (until it became impossible to do so with a straight face), Ward Connerly, Thomas Sowell.
But I have no use whatsoever for Obama and his socialism, no matter what race he is. If your point is wouldn’t it be great if he had a Road to Damascus conversion? Hell, yes it would. I’d love to see him spouting Friedman economic theory and the Bush doctrine of preemption and Ron Paul’s plan to abolish the Federal Department of Education and his plan to reform Social Security with privatization and a flat tax.
But, dude — he’s a socialist.

My skin crawls whenever someone says, “Bill Clinton, the first black president.”

Rush Limbaugh praised Michelle Malkin because Michelle Malkin did a hatchet job on John McCain. I am sorry to say this, but the column by Ms. Malkin was garbage. Immigration is but one issue; and on that issue, to say that McCain has not learned is to ignore what McCain has been saying for six months about how given the way that the American people feel, law enforcement must come first. The kind of rant that Michelle writes only serves to undercut the one Republican that the polls show can win in November. It obviously has not occurred to Michelle that if the Democrats take the White House, then it is full speed ahead for more than just de facto amnesty; all the Democrats fault President Bush for not achieving the passage of last summer’s immigration bill.
What the American people should remember instead about the past couple of years is that McCain constantly visited the troops in Iraq and was right all along about the strategy to be employed there, first in criticizing the prior light footprint strategy as leaving too few boots on the ground and then in vocally supporting thte surge and General Petraeus at a time the Democrats were declaring defeat and most Republicans were either looking for a way out (e.g., Senator Lugar) or looking at their feet (e.g., Romney). How many times has Romney visited the troops in Iraq? ZERO.
What the American people should know is that the most qualified person to be the next Commander in Chief is McCain. When it comes to military matters, national security and foreign policy, McCain is unequaled, which is why he has all the endorsements he has — among others, John McCain also has the endorsements of former Secretaries of State George Schultz, Henry Kissinger, Lawrence Eagleburger and Alexander Haig, former Navy Secretaries John Lehman and William Ball, General Norman Schwartzkof, former national security officials Bud MacFarlane, James Woolsey, Tom Kean, Tom Ridge and Robert Inman, former Cabinet Secretaries (outside State) James Schlesinger, Jack Kemp, Robert Mosbacher and Peter Peterson, Senators Sam Brownback, Richard Burr, Tom Coburn, John Thune, John Warner, John Kyl, Pete Domenici, Trent Lott, Lindsey Graham, Joe Lieberman and Gordon Smith, former Senators Phil Gramm, Alphone D’Amato, Dan Coats, Warren Rudman, Mike DeWine, Peter Fitzgerald and Slade Gordon. That is a conservative group of people who have carried public responsibilities.
What the American people should have in mind is that John McCain is pro-life and has never run for office (unlike Romney) as a pro-choice, pro-gay rights candidate, that McCain has a 82% approval in his voting record from the ACU and that no one is more of a fiscal hawk on cuttiing spending than McCain. McCain’s economic proposal stresses making the Bush tax cuts permanent while cutting federal spending, cutting the corporate tax rate and giving R&D credits to enable businesses to prosper and create real jobs.
Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin have just lost it completely. To use the name of one of Michelle’s books, they have become “Unhinged.”
Phil Byler on January 24, 2008 at 8:02 AM
KP can’t hold a candle to MM. Why do they even bother putting her on the same screen? KP is like a yappy little dog biting at MM’s ankles. MM is a class act. She talks VERY well (not too fast or too hysterical.) And should have her own show. When I look at these other women “experts” on anything, they pale in comparison to MM.
PoliticallyIncorrectSandy on January 24, 2008 at 8:48 AM
p.s. to Phil Byler: We will never forgive McCain for his shamnesty bill–trying to shove 50 million criminal aliens down our throat. Ugh…
Rush, Ann, and MM are the cream of the crop. They’re smart! VERY smart!
PoliticallyIncorrectSandy on January 24, 2008 at 8:52 AM
With all dude respect, Obama, Bill and Hillary are all lawyers, arguing their cases in front of the largest jury ever. It’s not always “Whoever is the best liar wins.”-sometimes, unintentionally, the truth wins, and in this case, America wins, if the next President is a Conservative Republican. Call Mitt whatever you like, but he isn’t a “Lawyer”-he is a businessman who hired lawyers. I’m witt Mitt.

Watch out ladies after the election ‘Wild Bill’ will have a lot of time on his hands and trouble keeping his hands to himself. Also, ‘Wild Bill’ wearing his ‘Code Pink’ shirt means Cindy and her crowd better watch their backs and fronts.

For the first time in my life I wish I were a registered Democrat, just so I could vote for Obamma against Hillary.
Dear Republican Party, please give me a candidate who will do something about immigration in the general election. Because if you don’t, there’s just not going to be much reason to vote Republican…unless Hillary is the Democratic nominee.
