Video: Dems pledge to force universities to allow ROTC on campus

Rob Port’s totally skeptical, I’m only mostly skeptical. Any Democrat who’s elected will have to make a show of “toughness” at some point to prove to the center that he/she isn’t a thoroughgoing leftist stooge, especially Hillary because of the gender suspicions she faces. A stand on the Solomon Amendment is a quick and easy way to do it since it’d earn them lovin’-the-troops bonus points and ostensibly prove they’re not afraid to confront one of their own core constituencies.

As usual, Obama’s a little shrewder than the other two. Watch as he turns the amendment from a right-wing measure aimed at forcing lefty universities to accept the military into a left-wing, Rangel-esque measure aimed at making the military more uniform by class. Click the image to watch.

I’m absolutely stunned.

Wait! Wait! They’re lips are moving.

Sugar Land on January 23, 2008 at 9:47 AM

Yeah right, and as soon as they’re elected, that’s one more promise down the toilet.

Tony737 on January 23, 2008 at 9:50 AM

Really, more proof that they will say anything to get elected so that they can then proceed to stab us in the back .

bbz123 on January 23, 2008 at 9:52 AM

Of course they do . . . now, about these bridges I want to sell. We know they lie but what really bothers me is the people that believe them.

rplat on January 23, 2008 at 9:52 AM

I call bs on this. The most they’ll do is give it a half assed attempt.

thekingtut on January 23, 2008 at 9:54 AM

It’s also completely superfluous, seeing as how Mt. Olympus has already handed down its judgment on this issue.

This is the type of completely empty political gesture you’d expect from both.

Wasn’t it the Clintons who made the Marines on guard in the White House wear civilian clothes because they were put off by the sight of the Marine uniforms? Is that the same Hillary who’s gonna force universities to accept the military, a military she herseld does not accept? Is this the same Hillary who used Air Force liaison officers in the White House as waiters at her social functions? These are the same Clintons who appointed people to the Pentagon who briefed their astonished uniformed staff that they considered everyone in uniform their enemy until they proved themselves differently.

Even after years of Clinton lies, I remain astonished at their dishonesty.

Tantor on January 23, 2008 at 9:59 AM

As I noted on the night of the debate, I honestly don’t think Obama knew what the Solomon Amendment was when he was asked. That’s why he shifted the discussion.

Michelle on January 23, 2008 at 10:00 AM

Not buying it. No “Sister Soulja” moment here.

KelliD on January 23, 2008 at 10:11 AM

ROTC on campuses for a military that won’t need it. That’s an easy promise.

Tantor on January 23, 2008 at 9:59 AM

I remain astonished that people actually want this back! What, eight years wasn’t enough?

jdawg on January 23, 2008 at 10:20 AM

I don’t think whether we believe them matters. I think we’re better served if the Left believes them.

MikeZero on January 23, 2008 at 10:29 AM

Should either gain the White House, I don’t think I’ll hold my breath waiting for this to happen.

MCPO Airdale on January 23, 2008 at 10:37 AM

My sons are shooting for ROTC and NROTC scholarships and are top in their perspective classes. Their HS teachers and fellow students ask them why they want to serve in the military since they are too smart. The oldest told them that he wants to be with the rest of the smartest Americans, in uniform.

Great kids…..(proud dad posting)

This isn’t going to go over well with the Nuts. Expect some crude “Hitlerly” photoshops to pop up on Indymedia sites later today.

Heh.

Allah, I love you, brother, but I swear you must sit around thinking about new ways to give the benefit of a million doubts to these lying douchebags.

Good Lord, man. Give me one effing statement of any kind in support of the Solomon amendment by these craptastic, pandering scumbags in the last four years, before this BS festival with Russert.

Obama, spell Solomon for us. Hillary, give us video of the scolding you gave Yale and Harvard for their ROTC failures and abject anti-Americanism. Edwards … oh, never mind you worthless douche.

Jaibones on January 23, 2008 at 10:46 AM

I should have linked to Michelle’s debate coverage from that night. She nailed all of this squarely, including our National Idiot Edwards changing the subject — “It’s nawut anuuff to tawuk abaout ait, Tayum…”

Jaibones on January 23, 2008 at 10:50 AM

Let’s not forget that Clinton ran on the promise to immediately lift the ban on open sodomy in the military- the gay vote was critical to his victory in 1992. Don’t ask, don’t tell came about as a result of the backlash when the homosexuals weren’t immediately rewarded for their efforts on Clinton’s behalf.

Senator Clinton has made the same promise this time round. Do we really want to trust the Clintons again with the well-being of our military? I don’t think so. There is a reason why the military is majority Republican.

The electorate can’t be as stupid as she thinks they are.

can they?

franksalterego on January 23, 2008 at 11:00 AM

Here’s your answer …..

Democrat front-runners for president are Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards.

fogw on January 23, 2008 at 11:18 AM

Remember the SNL skit with Chris Farley as Newt doing Its A Wonderful Life. Hillary is President and the USS Nimitz is turned into a homeless shelter.

Point made

franksalterego on January 23, 2008 at 1:18 PM

These “people” act like a recorder has never been invented.

Perfect answer.. : )

kcd on January 23, 2008 at 2:42 PM

Do they know what ROTC is though? :)

I loved that skit!

Thanks for reminding me of a time when SNL didn’t suck.
