Just as a reaction to the ad, as a Floridian it makes me flinch to see shots of a hurricane coming. I’ve seen some of the widespread damage. We had minor roof problems during the fall of 2004, but our lives were chaotic for a couple of months. I really don’t want to see visual reminders.

I don’t think it’s the candidates that are the problem this election, it’s the electorate which would find fault with a “sunny, 72 degrees” forecast.

We already have a natural disaster fund, it is called the general treasury and that is the problem. Rudy’s full plan will limit the billions for which we are on the hook right now and the ridiculous payouts that go to people that build their homes below sea level and in the midst of Hurracaine Alley. Now they get goverment bailouts mostly for free.

It’s amazing to me that we’ve come to a point in American politics where it considered “lame” to tout your record on dealing with crisis. I don’t think it’s the candidates that are the problem this election, it’s the electorate which would find fault with a “sunny, 72 degrees” forecast.

What do you mean by collectivism? That in times of catastrophe we should pool our national resources to help each other out? Sure, it’s open advocacy of collectivism, then. Bribe seems a strong word, too, considering the purported bribe only pays out in the event of a natural disaster.

Brat, that is a fantastic article. What makes it impressive is that the cameras weren’t rolling. He wasn’t making news footage. He was doing work to help a neighbor without any alterior motives in mind. THAT is a rare quality amongst politicians today. In all honesty, its something I never thought I would see or hear about. I didn’t think people like that were the type to run for high political office anymore. Again, thanks for posting that. Its too bad more people won’t ever know about it.

Hurricanes and insurance don’t just affect our lives after a storm. Many now have significantly higher insurance rates and hundreds of thousands have had our (yes, our) insurance policies canceled.
