I posted this earlier, but Harald obviously has a problem with reading comprehension, especially when it disproves his "Huckabee is a conservative" delusion:

In 2000, Huckabee insisted on controlling the state party’s separate Victory Committee, but the committee’s finances were so poorly handled that a Federal Election Commission investigation resulted in the largest fine ever handed down by the FEC to a state party. That same year Republican Rep. Jay Dickey lost the 4th District seat he’d held for eight years.

In 2001, when conservative Republican lawmakers opposed a higher sales taxes and fees the governor supported [yes, Huckabee supported higher taxes, if you hadn't heard], he began calling them “Shiites.” [that's the RINO calling the conservatives Shi'ites] Huckabee’s positions on fiscal policy became indistinguishable from Democrats’ positions. [In other words, he was JUST LIKE A DEMOCRAT] A year later, he openly campaigned against a ballot initiative to remove the sales tax on food and medicine. While he and Rockefeller won re-election in 2002, Sen. Tim Hutchinson didn’t. [Meaning that the liberals won and the conservative didn't.]

In 2003, Huckabee not only begged lawmakers for new taxes to make up a budget shortfall, but he rebuffed conservatives’ (Republicans and a couple of Democrats) plan to cover the shortfall by tapping one-time money and cutting pork. [The RINO rebuffed the conservatives, and refused to cut pork. What a ...surprise.] In 2004, President Bush won re-election, but Huckabee campaigned for some Democrats - even some who had Republican opponents - and Republicans lost state legislative seats for the first time since 1990. [Huckabee directly sabotaged his own party.]

In 2005, a term-limited Huckabee frustrated conservatives when he pushed a bill to give in-state college tuition and scholarships to the children of illegal immigrants. The next year, Democrats swept Republicans in every race for statewide constitutional office and Republicans lost legislative seats for the second consecutive election cycle. [Huckabee had a huge impact - a grossly negative one - on the Republican Party in his state. Thanks to his efforts, his party was weakened. I would say that made him a cheerful ally of the Democrats - thus a Republican IN NAME ONLY. Get it?!]

Wake up, Harald. You are completely and utterly deceived. You have eyes that cannot see and ears that cannot hear. I used to feel sorry for people like you. Now I have no patience for such willful ignorance.

Actually he called some RINOs shi’ite’s in 2001 way before any other candidate even knew the difference between a shia and a sunni!

HaraldHardrada on January 24, 2008 at 4:43 PM

That's funny. I remember reading about Shiites and Sunnis during the Iranian hostage crisis. Of course, what they said at the time was that Sunni Muslims were moderated, and it was the Shiites who were radical. This was because the Iranians were Shiite, and Al Quaeda had not yet attacked us.

So the conventional wisdom before 9/11 usually painted the Shiites as the "dangerous" Muslims, and the Sunni as the moderate ones we could all get along with.

Which means, that if Huckabee was calling people "Shiites", it would be to tag them with a spiteful name, similar to calling them Nazis or Fascists. And as we all know, those names are freely applied to conservatives by liberals.

So it's highly doubtful he called people Shiites because he thought they were RINO's. That's shameless revisionism. He was almost certainly attacking them for being too conservative.

So your whole argument is false:
1) Shiites were by no means unheard of since at least the 70's, so Huckabee gets no points for being ahead of his time.
2) Shiites before 9/11 would NOT have been a compliment
3) Calling people "Shiites" would have meant calling them radical conservatives, the opposite of RINO's
4)Since the conventional wisdom that dubbed Shiites radicals and Sunnis as moderates was, in fact, wrong, Huckabee if anything showed himself not ignorant of the nature of the branches of Islam.

I disagree - it was the other way around. Huckabee's fiscal incompetence is well-documented, as are his nanny-statist ways. See my previous comment and the various articles posted on HA.

Even still, it doesn't make it right, as your comment seems to imply by crowing that Huckabee smeared other Republicans with that insult before anyone recognized the significance (speak for yourself, btw ) Did Huckabee himself? If he did, then he's an incredibly offensive ass. If he didn't then he's an ignorant buffoon eager to try out a new word he'd heard. Either way, Huckabee is crap.

Nice copy and paste Harald.

So, Huckabee is a fiscal conservative? Then I wonder why he called fiscal conservatives in Arkansas Shi'ites? In fact, I wonder why he called any fellow Republican a Shi'ite. That's vile! With Repooplicans like that, who needs Dummocrats????

So, Huckabee is a fiscal conservative? Then I wonder why he called fiscal conservatives in Arkansas Shi’ites? In fact, I wonder why he called any fellow Republican a Shi’ite. That’s vile! With Repooplicans like that, who needs Dummocrats????

Some people still mistakenly believe Huckabee is liberal on economic policies because of the Club for Growth ads and the line that Huckabee raised taxes by 47%. Well, you can ignore the Club for Growth ads. They were bought and paid for by Romney's supporters. Yes, taxes in Arkansas went up 47% but that was over 11 years. The economy in Arkansas has been growing at a higher rate than the national average.

What happens when the economy grows? Tax revenues increase.

The 47% tax increase has to be one of the most misleading statistics every used in politics!

That is more a reflection of the growth in the Arkansas economy than a reflection of tax rates. In fact, state income tax rates did not change during Huckabee's term. Voters approved a 3 cent per gallon fuel tax increase that allowed Arkansas to rebuild its interstate highway system. The Arkansas Supreme Court mandated a change in the state school system which led to a 7/8 cent sales tax increase. Mike would have been thrown out of office had he not gone along with these mandates! Learn the facts. Mike Huckabee is a fiscal conservative.

# Won re-election twice as Governor of Arkansas
# Kept the tax burden of Arkansas residents among the lowest in our country
# Left office with a record budget surplus, after inheriting a deficit
# Grew the Arkansas economy at a rate higher than the national average
# He passed welfare reform measures that helped reduce welfare rolls by almost 50 percent.
# For the first time in state history there was a major, broad-based tax cut.
# He passed education reforms that encourage character education in schools, expand the availability of college scholarships, provide for the creation of charter schools and establish a new approach to workforce education.
# His new initiative “Smart Start” emphasizes reading and math for students from kindergarten through the fourth grade. “Smart Step” is a similar program for those in the fifth through eighth grades.
# He passed the “Property Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights.”
# He passed legislation that simplifies auto registration, previously a time-consuming mess.
# He completed the largest road construction project in Arkansas history. Truckers magazine which had labeled the roads in AR as one of the worst before now acknowledges AR roads of being the most improved.
# He saw to it that all of the tobacco settlement money was devoted to improving the health of Arkansans.
# Effectively handled the influx of 75,000 Katrina evacuees and received nationwide recognition for his efforts.

Dear Team Hunter,

On 11/5/2007 I contributed $20 to the Hunter campaign after hearing Mr. Hunter's position and record on illegal immigration, specifically building a suitable border wall. My donation was small, I realize, but he said the things a conservative like me -- on a budget -- likes to hear.

Since then I've learned Duncan Hunter has endorsed Mike Huckabee for the Republican nomination. I am dumbfounded. Huckabee has a known record for increasing taxes, tone deafness for illegal immigration, and softness on national defense and crime. So I want to go on the record for asking for a refund of my donation to the Hunter campaign. I'll be pleasantly surprised if I get it back.

Sincerely,

I feel worse now than I did when I took the Hunter bumper sticker off my car on Monday.
Huckabee? Billy's replacement, who was selling out Arkansas to illegal aliens? Apparently he has a hard time endorsing a Mormon and I guess it's better than endorsing McPain. Sigh...It's not like we have good choices here.

I'm not wasting my time on you pretending wimpy assed conservatives, anymore.

When you get your head screwed on right and willing to get your feelings hurt for the good of the country, then come back and debate me.

Until them, screw you.

Yeah that explains a lot Redhead Infidel.

You are all just little children.

That's why you are so skeered of supporting Alan Keyes, because you are afraid of getting your little childish feelings hurt!

You are an embarrassment to Ronald Reagan and me.

I guess the only true conservatives in this race with balls and guts is Alan Keyes, me, and Ronald Reagan in spirit.

You should all be so ashamed of yourself and your wimpy little pompous asses.

Screw you.
