This is just the Bush administration trying to quietly exit the office under the pretense of diplomacy. If our capital really thinks there is a rational chance at diplomatic relations with Iran then we’re doomed. They’ll sell the shirts off our backs for something they can never have. Ironically, I think attempting diplomacy is fine, but only as a pretense. That way we have a clear reason to attack them when they continue to work towards nuclear armaments behind the international community’s collective backs. War…if you can think of a better way to handle an unresolvable dispute between two ideologically opposed, but destined to collide countries, I’d like to know it.

Condi is a complete failure at State, just as she was at the NSC. And Pres Bush can’t dodge the blame for her either. This is why I can’t support Romney, because we are going to get the same suck up to the Saudi’s and Dubai’s and other big corporate interests that we have gotten from Pres Bush. Romney’s background is very much like Bush’s – Harvard MBA, big politicians as Dads. It is possible I could be wrong, but it just smells bad.

Condi has now told the the Arab in Israel that they do not need to stop terrorism and they will still get a state, and Pres Bush supports this. Bush has abandoned the Bush doctrine of either you are with us or you are with the terrorists. Bush and Condi are now with the terrorists.

We need a president with some backbone, not a flip flopper corporate guy like Romney; and McCain has basically become no different than Hillary on everything but Iraq.

McCain is unacceptable and Romney would be a disaster even if he could win over Hillary, which he could not.

OK, this proposal is the piece of evidence I needed that somewhere across the desert sands of the Middle East, Condi truly lost a few marbles out there somewhere.

Maybe it was the “strawberry juice” offered to her by the Saudi royalty.

But clearly the thought “can’t trust Iran’s mullahcracy EVER” simply isn’t connecting for her.

It does sound incredibly naive of Condi. Iran keeps telling us point blank what their intentions are, and we just keep crawling back, trying to “negotiate”. When they launch a nuke at us or one of our allies, do you think we’ll finally get it?

Diplomacy is not a pretty business, which is why it’s not a transparent process, which is why taking public statements at face value — or thinking that they represent anything other than a negotiating stance — is, at best, naive. Condi has to manage a lot of expectations on a lot of different fronts, so I wouldn’t necessarily assume you even know precisely who she’s talking to.
