Video: Jerry O’Connell parodies Tom Cruise’s Scientology video

posted at 6:20 pm on January 22, 2008 by Bryan

Old and busted: Hitler Downfall parodies. New and shiny: Tom Cruise Scientology parodies.

This might be the performance of Jerry O’Connell’s career. And I say that as a Sliders fan.

I have been waiting for a chance to HAIL XENU! in a Tom Cruise thread. Close enough.

ALL HAIL XENU!

Ars Moriendi on January 22, 2008 at 6:23 PM

locke on January 22, 2008 at 6:26 PM

you know, I’d like that 3 minutes and 17 seconds of my life back, so I can go and waste it on something else pointless….

Canadian Imperialist Running Dog on January 22, 2008 at 6:27 PM

Yeah, I’d say that was better than his stupid movie with the animated kangaroo.

mesablue on January 22, 2008 at 6:30 PM

That laugh makes my skin crawl…great job!

d1carter on January 22, 2008 at 6:31 PM

Defector01 on January 22, 2008 at 6:37 PM

Great laugh.

But the performance of his life was in “Stand By Me.”

“You guys wanna see a dead body?”

Slublog on January 22, 2008 at 6:40 PM

That was full of WIN!

mattshu on January 22, 2008 at 6:43 PM

eh, nothing will ever touch the Ben Stiller/Tom Cruise bit:

RightWinged on January 22, 2008 at 6:43 PM

That was great. He has the laugh down better than Tom.

Geronimo on January 22, 2008 at 6:47 PM

That cracked me up. That laugh was awesome!

Watch your Back Jerry!

GoodBoy on January 22, 2008 at 6:48 PM

I guess Jerry isn’t planning on auditioning for any any roles in a Cruise or UA movie anytime soon.

Drew on January 22, 2008 at 6:49 PM

Insufficent wide eye stare and where they heck is the smirk?

This writer’s strike is going to wreak havoc on everyone’s acting skills. Buy stock in Dummies, Inc.

ALL HAIL ZULTAN

Vizzini on January 22, 2008 at 6:57 PM

Yeah, I’d say that was better than his stupid movie with the animated kangaroo.

mesablue on January 22, 2008 at 6:30 PM

Kangaroo Jack, up there with such classics as Casablanca and Citizen Kane.

doubleplusundead on January 22, 2008 at 7:01 PM

“And he says.. “The Aristocrats!!!”

/win

UncleOlaf on January 22, 2008 at 7:03 PM

I’ll always like Jerry because he played Vern in one my favorite movies–Stand By Me. Based on the Stephen King novel The Body. It came out in 1986.

And this parody was funny. Tom Cruise is, umm, entertaining.

Montana on January 22, 2008 at 7:03 PM

It’s cute, but my favorite funny or die video is the one with Jenna Elfmann playing “streetball”.

jjjen on January 22, 2008 at 7:04 PM

LOL @ The Aristocrats

Alalazoo on January 22, 2008 at 7:04 PM

It was very clever. It was great acting. I don’t usually make the last comment when discussing actors–just politicians.

thuja on January 22, 2008 at 7:07 PM

I miss Sliders.

Califemme on January 22, 2008 at 7:07 PM

Yeah, he had Cruise nailed on that one. It’s not that hard to do though. Truly nutty people aren’t very subtle in their quirks, especially when they are as repetitive and predictable as Tommy.

AUINSC on January 22, 2008 at 7:15 PM

Hilarious!

HaraldHardrada on January 22, 2008 at 7:17 PM

It would have been funnier if he had a midget in a tux standing off to the side as Cruise/O’Connell emoted…

Mister Ghost on January 22, 2008 at 7:18 PM

Between his eye movements and hand puppet movements
i was slowly getting seasick, and if this strike
keeps going on for the love of humanity they might as
well set up a MASH tent on Hollywood buelevard and
reprise the old actors before its too late!

canopfor on January 22, 2008 at 7:20 PM

That’s some funny shi…crap.

mpax on January 22, 2008 at 7:27 PM

Whats the point of Tom Cruise being an actor,
he would be further ahead to open a law office
and hand out the lawsuits on behalf of
Sciencetologyisnotareligion!haha

canopfor on January 22, 2008 at 7:28 PM

And it was funny!

Spirit of 1776 on January 22, 2008 at 7:45 PM

Kangaroo Jack was a tour de force, a triumph.

koolbrease on January 22, 2008 at 7:51 PM

Yes, it has it’s moments but at least a minute and a half too long. After watching this I wondered if the WGA on strike or MPEG.

ScottMcC on January 22, 2008 at 7:53 PM

OMG!

that was Funny after watching that Tom Cruise video. :D

Chakra Hammer on January 22, 2008 at 8:35 PM

I’m starting to think that Tom Cruise’s career may just have jumped the shark… wow. That was great.

Meryl Yourish on January 22, 2008 at 8:58 PM

I felt so sad the time he thought he made it home, but the fence didnt squeak. THEY FIXED THE FENCE!!!! THEY FIXED IT!!!!!!

Nihaody on January 22, 2008 at 8:59 PM

such a great laugh!!

dbj on January 22, 2008 at 9:23 PM

I hope Cruise doesn’t have any real power in Hollywood for Jerry’s sake.

I loved Sliders, by the way, although O’Connell pretty much ruined it when he got more creative control. I liked early Sliders with the nerd and the girl next door instead of later Sliders with the beauty queen and the beefy hero.

Old and busted: Hitler Downfall parodies.

Where? Links! Downfall was awesome. “Awesome” doesn’t seem like the right word, but..

Reaps on January 22, 2008 at 10:09 PM

WOW…where can I sign up for that Religion??? Sounds awesome!

ihasurnominashun on January 22, 2008 at 10:34 PM

No mention of the O’Connell’s Greatest. Film. Ever.?

The touchstone Joe’s Apartment featured one of the most celebrated cockroach water ballet’s in movie history.

WTF, people?

Bob Owens on January 22, 2008 at 10:49 PM

That was great. The VERY creepy laughter was probably the high point.

madne0 on January 22, 2008 at 11:10 PM

I love it. Jerry’s awesome.

SoulGlo on January 22, 2008 at 11:11 PM

“I lost the comb.”

Wingo on January 23, 2008 at 12:20 AM

The laugh was spot on! I really hope this isn’t going to be the end of Jerry’s career but then, how would we know?
I kid, I kid, who loves ya babe….

TBinSTL on January 23, 2008 at 12:42 AM

AHAHAHA….awesome job! Cruise has more than a few screws loose.

Livefreeordie on January 23, 2008 at 2:10 AM

Bob Owens on January 22, 2008 at 10:49 PM

HAHAHAHAAAA!!!!

doubleplusundead on January 23, 2008 at 3:18 AM

Careful Jerry! You don’t want The Cruise mad at you!

pilamaye on January 23, 2008 at 6:54 AM

Great job. But watch out the ghosts of L Ron will try to find you and suck the life out of you.

But, remember we all actors and the world is stage. Our problem is we do not know where stage left is so we can get off the stage.

MSGTAS on January 23, 2008 at 7:57 AM

Can`t stand Tom Cruise, but I loved Jerry O’Connell’s version of TC..so funny!!!

Lou on January 23, 2008 at 8:24 AM

The Downfall parody was definately funnier.

srhoades on January 23, 2008 at 9:20 AM

That was great stuff. Classic. Loved the show Sliders too. O’Connell would have been a better choice in some of the movies Tom Cruise did like War of the Worlds or Jerry Maguire.

I know…I know…O’Connell was in Jerry Maguire, but should have had the lead role.

Planet Boulder on January 23, 2008 at 9:35 AM

To quote the great philosopher Homer -

“Mmmmm, sliders…”

Homer Simpson, that is.

Brass Pair on January 23, 2008 at 9:39 AM

Same here, had enough of TC but this was great… hahahaa…

.. hmmm wonder if Xenu knows… better hide… -looks around cautiously-

Hahaha

ThinkingForMyself on January 23, 2008 at 10:19 AM

Will Jerry face a backlash for this? Or will the $cientologists just chalk it up to a rascally Thetan inhabiting Jerry’s body?

pseudonominus on January 23, 2008 at 10:23 AM

Was wondering myself if Jerry will get fewer calls from producers and directors afraid of TomKat.

Loved Jerry in Crossing Jordan as well.

doufree on January 23, 2008 at 10:37 AM

They were in Jerry Macguire together, weren’t they?

Captain Scarlet on January 23, 2008 at 11:25 AM

“It’s a great privilege to be an actor because you know you are no help to anyone.”
“As an actor when you see an accident you just have to drive by, because of all the litigation and insurance problems.”

LOL – great stuff!

Irenaeus on January 23, 2008 at 7:06 PM

Beautiful, Jerry. But watch your back for litigation. Those buggers are evil and persistent.
