So, what’s your point? Of course the movie was made so he can do his schtick. And how exactly would a Billy Madison-type character work as a Mossad super-agent?

my personal fave has to be “50 first dates”, too. although i must say that “mr. deeds” was a great one as well. “chuck and larry” was the worst by far, and not because it “advocates homosexuality” (i guess there are some homophobes in here; that’s too bad…) but because it was shallow, poorly written, and just perpetuated tired stereotypes about gays.

on another note, sandler’s production company has put out some great flicks, too (you will recognize the regular roster of guys that show up in all of adam’s movies). “grandma’s boy” is right up there with “harold & kumar” at the top of the list of great 21st century stoner movies!

The good news? This one’s unlikely to devolve into moral equivalence as the subplot heats up. Exit question: What was the last truly memorable comedy he did? I liked “50 First Dates” but that’s not considered a true Sandler classic the way Madison, “Happy Gilmore,” and “The Wedding Singer” are. Maybe “Big Daddy”? That was 1999, dude. I still haven’t watched Chuck & Larry because I hear it turns almost towards gay advocacy at some point, which is funny given that there was an old Conan rerun on last night in which Sandler was on to plug “Click”, and joked how he sent a picture of his new baby girl to his friends back east with a not “Told ya I wasn’t queer”, and dropped a few more “q-bombs”.

At any rate, I’m a fan of most of his stuff… though I’ve never really cared much for the Wedding Singer. It’s okay, but I’m not sure why it’s lumped in with the “classics”. Also, there was some stupid movie with (I think) one of the Wayans brothers that was retarded.

But I’ve even liked his stuff he’s done outside of his element. Spanglish was pretty good, The Longest Yard was great, and Punch Drunk Love was f-ing awesome! I haven’t seen that Reign Over Me Yet, but looks like it has potential.

Anyway, off to watch this clip…

P.S. I’m just afraid in the end they’ll find (according to libs) that they’re not all that different and have a group hug in the end.

I’ve been occupationally amused by Sandler but I actually find him more compelling as a dramatic actor (see: Punch Drunk Love)

he certainly understood that role and played it well, but i wonder if he has any range beyond that.

What was the last truly memorable comedy he did?

I thought The Longest Yard had some comedic times in it. Mr Deeds was good also.
Waterboy was definetely one of his best.
Once in a while I’ll pop in his CD with Toll Booth Willy in it. That CD had some good stuff.
I’ll probably wait for this movie to come out on DVD, since I’ve only been to the Theater twice in the last 10 years. (Flags of our Fathers was the last one I went to see)

The character he played in Spanglish was pretty good but in the “he can do more than Happy Gilmore” kind of performance. Personally, I give him credit for staying in the limelight for all these years- he must be doing something right.
