Daschle: Billy Jeff acting unpresidential by attacking Obama

So he says and Geraghty seems to agree, offering the hypothetical example of Bush I stumping for Dubya by comparison. The problem is that it’s hard to say how much of Clinton’s influence over voters — which is considerable per the first result here — is due to his presidential pedigree versus his own charisma. GHWB was a sufficiently mediocre campaigner that the only reason to have him out on the trail would have been to leverage his emeritus status. Clinton’s a different animal: Formidable in his own right, younger so that he lacks some of the elder-statesman mystique, and partnered with Hillary in a way that Bush pere and fils never were. The infamous legend of Billary as “co-presidents” actually works in his favor here: If her administration is essentially going to be a continuation of his, and both sides are treating it that way at the moment, then what do you expect him to do but campaign? Turn him loose. Which is exactly what they’re going to do.

What’s also left unsaid here is that it takes a giant to beat a giant, and Obama’s a giant. Not in terms of his legislative achievements, certainly, but in terms of his historical significance and rhetorical skill. He has a mystique all his own and the media’s not going to puncture it unless they’re forced to by someone with equal mojo. Enter the Clenis.

Enjoy this while you can, because as Anwyn notes, it’ll all blow over if the Messiah wins and Clinton hits the trail for him. Exit question quotation: “I pray for the speedy failure of his divisive anti-feminist campaign.”

If the party whacks Clinton the Clintons will sulk and seek to whack Obama if he wins the nomination.

Hillary is 60 waiting 8 years for an Obama presidency to end is too much time. They HAVE to stop Obama either in the primaries or the general elections.

The Clintons are our best weapon right now.

IP MANIA!

Vizzini on January 22, 2008 at 2:04 PM

It’s interesting that I’ve seen several liberals who want to seem very passionately involved in this campaign, like Roseanne, constantly misspell Hillary’s first name.

terryannonline on January 22, 2008 at 2:11 PM

The “anti-feminist” vs. the “anti-black.”

The class war between the pillars of the classless society continues. But, in the end, these rich, Marxists will have their dachas – while the proletariat gaze in reverence.

Onward, Comrades! Onward! Utopia awaits! Vote for the rich, Marxists. “Hypocrisy” is a bourgeois device to derail the worker’s paradise. Don’t let these wreckers deceive you. We aren’t the rich, we will have our wealth and we will do with your wealth what we will. But, we aren’t rich, Marxists! Vote for us! You need us, Comrades!

OhEssYouCowboys on January 22, 2008 at 2:14 PM

I’ve “trolling” around here touting my fatalist view that we should just get it over with and vote for Obama.

But in the last few days, Rush has been talking about sitting this election out, so I guess I wasn’t that far off after all.

Bill Clinton is, of course, a complete disgrace…let’s hope he keeps it up, it will be that much easier for my main man Barry to get the nomination.

Conservatives for Obama!

Dorvillian on January 22, 2008 at 2:15 PM

Billy Jeff has always acted unpresidential; uncouth; undisciplined and undeserving of the nation’s trust and confidence. Obama needs to confront this crude fool head on and give him no quarter.

rplat on January 22, 2008 at 2:18 PM

For Bill, acting presidential is the exception to the rule.

Bill stealing headlines from his spouse will hopefully remind the nation what an evil, self-centered, dishonest couple these two are….

yeah, but she’d still be younger than McCain.

JiangxiDad on January 22, 2008 at 2:21 PM

There was also that one time with the intern. That was also unpresidential. Should we really expect Clinton to stop doing what he loves?

AbaddonsReign on January 22, 2008 at 2:23 PM

Coming from Daschle, that’s some funny stuff.

DaveS on January 22, 2008 at 2:24 PM

BTW AP News is delving into Anthony Rezko now so time for a little Obama squirm ?

anthony Rezko

And when will Hsu drop ?

Tom Daschle doesn’t have a leg to stand on in judgment of anybody and besides Clinton was anything but Presidential when he actually was the President, he’s going to start now.

I believe Tom Daschle is now part of a liberal think tank, thats like asking a dung beetle to solve quantum equations.

Go ahead, tell Billy to shut up, thats like telling a teenage boy to quit lusting.

It is truly a beautiful thing to see liberal turn on liberal. Only thing missing is locking them together in a closed room and arming them with baseball bats.

pilamaye on January 22, 2008 at 2:34 PM

Mr Clinton already surpassed expectations in being unbecoming of a president over a decade ago. The only thing new, but not newsworthy, is that he’s running in a campaign.

Oh, I see, this is supposed to be weighted more because the critic happens to be a Democrat. Yes, of course. My mistake.

Weebork on January 22, 2008 at 2:43 PM

Just when was it that he was ever presidential?

Griz on January 22, 2008 at 2:48 PM

Bush 1 said that he thought his son would be a good choice. he didn’t attack the other candidates or try to parallel the campaign for his own glory.

Bringing B Clinton out on this campaign was the biggest mistake they could have made. Democrats remained loyal to their party during the scandal, but you can feel the tension when this boob gets out in public and starts talking like none of it ever happened.

Impeached president Clinton, keep it up!!! Republicans ‘08

Hening on January 22, 2008 at 3:02 PM

The current Democrat nomination for President is Sen. Clinton’s – to lose.
Her female/black/liberal/white establishment base is solid, and her ability to reach independents and moderates is already yielding fruit.
Sen. Obama has a core black/liberal Democrat constituency, and some independent/moderate misgivings about the Clintons. Not much room to grow, and The Democrat Party needs a Presidential candidate now.
Viola, Hillary Clinton, a formidable candidate in her own right who has yoked herself to a failed President.

“Oh Bill, I just love it when your face turns all beet red like that. Red’s my favorite color.”

“Really, hon’? I thought green was your favorite color.”

“Oops, you’re right. Red is my favorite ideology.”

whitetop on January 22, 2008 at 3:17 PM

The very fact that these self serving people can stand in front of the people of the United States and flat out lie is bad enough. When people believe them, that’s just plain scary.

pilamaye on January 22, 2008 at 2:34 PM

So true.

Although it’s depressing when you face the reality of the situation, i.e. that somehow Hillary Clinton is the BETTER of the two Dem candidates we have running for office.

[Well, three candidates, but honestly, no one really thinks Edwards has a shot, not that he EVER did anyway.]

Vyce on January 22, 2008 at 3:20 PM

i am shocked, shocked that people would accuse ol’ bill of acting unpresidential.

its vintage duh on January 22, 2008 at 3:23 PM

This country’s not going to elect a democrat who speaks well of republicans and reagan, like Barack Hussein Obama does.

- Roaseanne’s World

I don’t know why but I found that to be a frightening peek into the deranged mind of Roaseanne Barr.

12thman on January 22, 2008 at 3:30 PM

How about this as insight into Roseanne’s deranged mind… it’s the “best ticket.” I think she is doing it wrong, even by her own wacky standards.

Wineaholic on January 22, 2008 at 3:34 PM

Aren’t we all glad that the Clinton’s are back in the spotlight.

You stay classy billy jeff.

jukin on January 22, 2008 at 3:36 PM

If Billary loses and fails to get the nomination…they’ll be too busy with divorce proceedings to campaign for their new nemesis.

scottm on January 22, 2008 at 3:40 PM

“Bill, do we have any more dirt on Obama?”
“You bet, hon.’ I got a whole dossier.”
“Good. But let’s save the big guns for later, okay?”
“Sure hon.’ You want me to just kill his cat?”

whitetop on January 22, 2008 at 3:41 PM

My goodness a Clinton rebuked by Tom Daschle! What’s next, a stern look from Oprah?

Seriously, it seems that the bigger story is lost in the fact that a pathetic loser like Daschle is critical of a Clinton. He made the comments to announce that Obama feels the need to set up a “truth squad” to counter lies coming from the Clinton smear machine!

highhopes on January 22, 2008 at 3:42 PM

He’s starting to make Jimmah look good.

Keep talking Bill, I’m banking on you becoming the worst behaving ex-president ever by election day.

fogw on January 22, 2008 at 3:50 PM

highhopes on January 22, 2008 at 3:42 PM

Ha, a democratic truth squad. Who’d be the captain? Harry Reid maybe?

Les in NC on January 22, 2008 at 3:54 PM

All’s quiet on the GOP front, save for Fred bowing out.

I love watching the three ring circus in the DNC camp.

I’ve said it before… they eat their own, and there’s plenty of eatin’ going on right now.

madmonkphotog on January 22, 2008 at 5:53 PM

The best part of it is, the three rings consist of Bubba, the Ice Queen, and Obama. Edwards is nothing more than a minor annoyance, kind of like a mosquito. If I were in his shoes, I’d be just a little bit embarrassed.

When did BJ Clinton ever represent the Office of the President with dignity? Selling the Lincoln bedroom, trysts in the Oval office, multiple donations from foreign governments, selling 100s of pardons, numerous investigations (Whitewater, Travelgate, etc) and stealing from the White House on his way out. The list never ends. If BJ couldn’t ever get 50% of the vote, why do they think Hillary can.

volsense on January 22, 2008 at 6:30 PM

I don’t know about the rest of America but I’m getting tired of Clinton, Clinton, Clinton. After that all that happend under his administration, it’s time for a change, and I do not mean Hillary.

Do you really think she will make the country better?

Let’s see, with the financial crises now we should have plenty of money to spend on Hillary’s governmant programs.

tazmebro on January 23, 2008 at 4:38 AM

Matter vs. Anti-Matter. What matters is the the Klintons think they matter and Obama is standing in their way, therefore is considered the Anti-Matter.

So what’s the Matter? As in Star Trek, it is Anti-Matter that propels the enterprise.
