If we conservatives are dumb enough to let Fred out of the race.. Then we might as well vote for Obama and reap what we sow.

In my current state of mind, having read just this last page of comments (I'll read the other 12 after I finish War and Peace, I plan to do just that. I'll write in Fred come March, then vote Obama in the general election. If the repubs want a liberal, then I will do my part to see they get one.

Off topic, but tangentially relevant:

When the Mormons come knocking on my door, and I politely but firmly turn them away (for the tenth time in a year), why don't they stay away? I don't want to be rude or off-putting, but good grief! No means no!

I suppose that is one way to vote Democrat. A write in for Fred would pretty much guarantee a Democrat in the white house if enough knuckle-headed Republicans pull that stunt.

If not Fred then there will be a Liberal in the WH no matter what. Just because they put an "R" after their name does not make them Republicans.

You could just as easily say:

A write-in for Fred would pretty much guarantee Fred in the White House if enough knuckle-headed Republicans pull that stunt.

Just as true. It just depends on how many.

Any candidate who actually wants to be elected, it's on him to give people a reason to vote for him.

If The Fred drops out I'll write his name in. If The Fred goes completely off his rocker in the next few days and endorses Juan McCain well I can't very well take the endorsement of someone completely off their rocker seriously. To settle for any of the other candidates is sending a message that it's ok to practice blatant left wing politics your entire career and we'll vote for you anyway. Fred should just run in the General under a different party.

So if a commenter goes on and on ad nauseum about how “scary” Mormons are you have no problem with that, but when we point this out it reflects poorly on Romney?
....
Buy Danish on January 21, 2008 at 4:36 PM

I think "point this out" is understating it a tad...

But no, the observation has nothing to do with defending Romney or Mormonism. It has to do with attacking Fred and Fred supporters over and over again, which has to do with politics, not with a defense of Mormonism.

But it's interesting that you think it has to do with Mormonism? Are they linked in your mind? Is there something about Fred or Fredheads that is distinctively anti-Mormon?

We say that people should not reject Mitt Romney because he's Mormon, and I agree with that. But it's just as true that no one should vote for him just because he's Mormon. I'm beginning to wonder if the zeal for Mitt among certain Mormon posters is exactly the same thing as Huckabee's appeal to some evangelicals. Maybe there's more identity politics going on than I realized at first.

Is the bile directed against Fred Thompson because he's competing for the same pool of voters that Mitt is? It might explain a few things. We certainly saw that dynamic amongst the Huckabee supporters.

I just saw this comment over at the DailyKos:

If you take away the "Christian this and that" noise, Mike Huckabee doesn't sound very different from Democrats.

John McCain is pretty steadfast in his support of the Iraq war (though not Bush's handling of ig). Other than that, he could be a Democrat.

Mitt Romney is making conservative noises now, but he was governor of Massachusetts. A Mass Republican is kind of like a Texas Democrat -- a costume jewelry imitation of the real thing.

Giuliani is -- Giuliani. I think he's a Republican the way Chicago's Mayor Daley is a Democrat -- it suited his purpose.

I don't think any of these people (including those on the Dem side) would have survived back in the days of real partisan politics -- ie, when parties stood for something.

I think of the 1950s, when Republican President Dwight Eisenhower oversaw the demis of Republican sub-cancer Joseph McCarthy.

Or how about Democrats' expulsion of the Mississipi delegation in 1964?

Even THEY know that all the candidates are democrats in RINO clothing....everyone BUT Fred!

I was using sarcasm. In no way is how you vote a spiteful action. In csdeven's eyes, if we don't vote the way he see it, it's spite.

Which canidate do you thing is better able to respond to Tues market crash?

McCain in Michgian debate said we didn't even have a recession going on. Mitt wants to put a chicken in every pot. Hillary wants to buy the pot and stove to cook the chicken in. Obmas seems to want to buy the house to place the stove and pot in to cook the chicken. Huck things we should storm the CEO's offices and lynch them all. Rudy wants to cut taxes so that the recession won't become a depression.

Pocketbook issues favors Mitt IMO.

I hope everyone got out of the market. Tues looks ugly.

I'm not certain about this "spite", geckomon.

There is a point to make on record for the sake of supporting consistent conservative GOP principles, and standing against the liberal tide.

Though what will be, will be, now matters as much as ever.

As per your mentioning csdeven: his, vanceone, somebody#, buy danish & co. projections of "hate" onto others who criticize speaks OF THEMSELVES. They are best left to themselves as they will never see beyond their nose.

Historically, though, leaving them to their own devices didn't work very well when the US President chose to allow Brigham Young the governorship of the Utah territory prior to the Civil War. That allowed Utah's leaders and residents to commit murder of federal judges and the Mountain Meadows Massacre. That place has a monument and webpage, though Google has many sites for reference. Those commentors boast of bloodlines to Parley P. Pratt, defending Pratt's "honor" and circumstances surrounding murders--projecting their bloody hate on anyone who weeps for lost innocense. That was then; this is now. Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were fond of cursing adversaries through 7 generations. The wierd thing about a curse, is that whatever curse they project returns at them with more potency than imaginable. Watch your backside around that sort who would avenge a wrong with a wrong with a wrong.

I believe that faith in Christ can deflect a curse from ugly people. To those claiming to be Christian, IMO, today no Christian desecrates the unity of faith in the Holy Spirit expressed by all believers throughout all time. These days, Christians have reached the level of spirituality to be honest with their historical differences. So far as I'm concerned, trust in God.

I too, prefer to be spiteful rather than lose my honor as a true conservative by voting for anyone with an (R) next to his name.

I call you a Moonbat because you have loony conspiracy theories like Rosie O’Donnell .

See? Believing that McCain would sign the Fairness Doctrine, considering his history with CFR and his snub by Rush Limbaugh in 2000, whom the Fairness Doctrine would affect most, is as completely and utterly bonkers as, say, claiming that fire can't melt steel!

It's all clear now! No hyperbole whatsoever!
