Fredhead poll Update: A decision coming Tuesday?

Patrick Ruffini is running the poll, which asks two questions.
#1. If Fred drops out of the race, who will you support?
#2. If Fred drops out and endorses McCain, what impact will that have on your vote?
Before you Fredheads yell at me about this poll, consider that Fred declared that South Carolina was his stand state and he finished third there. Also consider that at some point, people have to start dropping out of the GOP race, and Fred and Huckabee are probably the most likely major candidates to drop out at this point. Huckabee because South Carolina gave him a loss on what amounted to home turf, and Fred because the evidence of Fredmentum is, sadly, scant. Reality’s teeth are getting sharper by the day.
If I had my druthers, Fred would stay in, we would go to a brokered convention and Fred would end up on the ticket. But my druthers don’t seem to be accounting for much these days.
Update: Carl Cameron says there may be a decision coming Tuesday.
As we have previously reported Fred Thomspon is in Tennessee visiting his 90 plus year old mother who is recovering from an illness
There will be no decisions today as Thompson mulls whether to carry on his bid for the presidency but he is expected to say something definitive tomorrow, probably first thing in the morning.
While no one in the campaign will be surprised if he withdraws they have no idea which way he will go and they do have some money if he should decide to continue.

What God lacks is convictions — stability of character. He ought to be a Presbyterian or a Lutheran or a Methodist or a Catholic or a Mormon or an Episcopalian or something — not try to be everything.

For the record:
Mormons are not Christians. That judgement was made by Joseph Smith himself. In the First Vision, he says God the Father and God the Son physically appeared before him and told him not to join any church, because they were all abominations.
The Mormon faith did not exist before Joseph Smith. The Christian faith did.
The only real relevance to this current discussion is the persistent attempt to label people as bigots because they don’t consider Mormonism to be a branch of Christianity.
News flash: it’s possible to reject a claim without being a bigot.
Mormons have certainly been part of our country and part of our government for many years now, so I’m hardly concerned by Romney’s Mormonism. My concern with Romney is how firm he will stand for conservative principles, having so recently been, well, not.

Hear, hear. This religious bickering is pointless. With the exception of Islam, I couldn’t care less what religion a man or woman professes. If he or she is qualified for the office of president (i.e., a conservative) I’ll vote for him or her.
NemoParticularis on January 20, 2008 at 9:57 PM

Why do you need to add that? I don’t mean to sound naive, but most Muslims I know are peaceful. The terrorists that use their so-called “relgious beliefs” to justify their evil actions give a bad name to normal, everyday Muslims.

I’ve been wondering….are you a muslim?
The only people I’ve ever heard say that islam is a religion of peace are ignorant liberals who’ve never read the koran or taqiyya practicing muslims.
HaraldHardrada on January 20, 2008 at 10:07 PM
You are naive. Hopelessly, helplessly naive. Lethally naive. But at least you admit it - that’s the first step to recovery. Google “Bernard Lewis.” Go to Amazon.com and order everything he ever wrote that is still in print and read all of it.
Then come back and we’ll chat about the “religion of peace.”

I am not very well versed on Islam except for the two Muslims I know here in Bible Belt North Carolina and the extremists we’ve all been exposed to. I’ve never been too interested in reading up on it, so I won’t argue with you. Besides, I don’t think I’ll have to worry about having to vote in an election with a Muslim as a serious candidate anyways.

The problem with Islam isnt necessarily Islam, its that the muslims who practice it are by and large, poor as hell. They are poor, they are uneducated, they are centuries behind technologically. Take all that into account, and it really doesnt take a lot to pervert the religion to justify heinous crap. Think of Christianity on the other hand, the vast majority are well educated, not poor, and advanced technologically, so it takes a fair bit to pervert the religion to justify heinous crap.

Hey dipstick, my K-8 years were spent in Catholic school, being the only non-baptized kid and the only kid without a trust fund, because my parents wanted me to have better than public school. What I learned about was the hypocrisy of many teachers their attitudes about Christianity. I was one of the only kids in my class who ever actually took a Bible and read it.
Deuteronomy is a violent chapter. It is a chapter of the book you claim to follow. If you don’t like it, stop following it. However, don’t sit there and pretend that it means nothing. The suras that you skim to prove your point about Islam have no more legitimacy than what I posted. Get over yourself. You are not God, so quit talking like him.

Um…BAD move quoting Deuteronomy, Madison. Christians follow Jesus Christ, who, according to the Gospels, made lame beggars walk and blind men see. Who healed the sick and raised the dead. Who never once commanded any of those who followed Him to kill another.
The Christian reads the Old Testament not for instructions from God on what to eat or whom to stone but rather to see for himself the signs of mankind’s salvation.

I’m not all that interested in what Muslims believe. I think each person decides what they personally believe. You can be a peaceful Muslim just as easily as you can be a kill-everybody Muslim. Its all how you interpret it. The earlier wouldn’t consider the latter to be a Muslim and vise versa.
malan89 on January 20, 2008 at 10:29 PM
That is so right.
A religion is like pronouncing a proper name, the person that owns the name gets to decide on how it is pronounced.
A religion or sect gets to decide what it is called and what dogma it follows.
If Tom Cruise wants to call himself a Christian , hey , that is between him Xenu and like 100 million souls burning atop volcanoes.

I wasn’t making an argument about whether modern day Christians kill each other or not. However, the average Christian doesn’t carry around the New Testament on its own. They carry around both books. Therefore, it’s more than reasonable to call them on the Old one. Particularly when they keep referring to a singular Christian church. Apparently, he’s as behind the times as to the Reformation as your average Wahhabist is.

HaraldHardrada on January 20, 2008 at 10:44 PM
Completely wrong. You’re imposing class-warfare ideas of a hundred years ago and classic multicultural thinking to presume that the only possible reason for the difference is economic.
The terrorists are fairly prosperous. The truly poor Muslims don’t have the time to waste on terrorism. Jihad is a central tenet of Islam. The corresponding central tenet of Christianity is the Great Commission. Islam divides the world into the Abode of Islam and the Abode of War. Christianity simply says to obey “the powers that be.” Mohammed set himself up at the head of an army, and advanced his cause by conquest. Jesus refused to let even his apostles take up swords to deliver him, and told the one who did to put up his sword.
Jesus stood before Pilate, and told him, “If my kingdom were of this world, then would my followers fight: but now is my kingdom not from hence.” So Christianity absolutely recognizes the right of governments to take up arms and fight, but Christianity itself does not take up arms.
Yes, you can go back to the Catholic church that contradicted all this and allied itself with kings. But this did not spring up for 300-400 years after the beginning of the churches, and was a large part of the cause for the Protestant Reformation.
These differences have nothing to do with who is poor or uneducated.
theregoestheneighborhood on January 20, 2008 at 10:44 PM
Please read the blogging the Koran thread. Robert does a great job teaching people who haven’t a clue why Muslims act like they do. Bin Laden was rich as were many other Muslim terrorist. The vast majority of Christians worldwide are poor. It’s like Jesus said, a servant is not above his master but in the end he will become like his master.
The terrorist are quite well educated… in all the wrong ways.
