Video: MSNBC hosts mock teh Fred

It was an odd moment. Fred gave a nice speech, mentioned that he was leaving town, but didn’t say whether he was staying in or getting out of the race after finishing third in South Carolina. But it’s evidently too much to ask of anyone on the air at MSNBC to keep their emotions to themselves. They weep at Barack Obama speeches and laugh at Fred Thompson and act like juveniles the rest of the time. Quite a network you’ve got there, MSNBC.

I did think it was funny that Fred tricked the MSM into giving him airtime by making them think it was some big announcement.

It’s disgusting, really. It gives credence to when Scarborough said the MSNBC crew booed the President.

MSNBC guys mock Fred. You KNOW he was the best candidate!

More Fred sympathy.
Oh well we need something to pacify the Fredheads.
Mcguyver on January 19, 2008 at 11:05 PM
Chris Matthews and Olbermann were laughing at the speech because they expected a concession/dropout/endorsement and got “snookered”, in Chris’ terminology. He then called it a “nice speech”. I’m not endorsing their actions, but it’s not as big a deal as you’re making it out to be.
Big S on January 19, 2008 at 11:06 PM
To be fair Bryan, your own Allahpundit mocked and ridiculed Fred more often and more viciously than any of the losers at PMSNBC. Quite a blog you’ve got there.
edgehead on January 19, 2008 at 11:07 PM
They shouldn’t be making fun of him on the TV…
However..he was in like 4th place at the time he made the announcement..
The beginning of the speech sounded like a postmortem, so the media kept with it..
Kind of odd… If you will.
Chakra Hammer on January 19, 2008 at 11:07 PM
Don’t worry. When the general election comes around they’ll be sure to give McCain and/or Huck the most respectful treatment imaginable.

What do you expect from a network that is owned by a company that is all about doing business with the bin Laden family and terrorist nations?
Everything on MSNBC all about GE’s business agenda.

When Fred is mocked by lame hosts Fred pays the courtesy of a hearty chuckle, after he crushes their ribcafe
Defector01 on January 19, 2008 at 11:13 PM
Eh…
Not so much mocking Fred as laughing because a major speech was expected, and all he said was…well, nothing.
Should they have done it? No. But I’m with Big S on this.
amerpundit on January 19, 2008 at 11:19 PM
What is funny is that I laugh at their speeches all the time.
Jay on January 19, 2008 at 11:20 PM
You know, when I start off the post acknowledging that the moment was “odd” and explaining why it was odd, I’m not really “making a big deal” out of the clip. If I wanted to make a big deal out of it, I would in fact make a big deal out of it. I assumed the readership here would be more interested in seeing the clip than in taking pot shots at me for posting it.
As for Allah mocking Fred, dude, this is an OPINION blog. MSNBC is supposed to conduct unbiased journalism. They don’t, but they’re supposed to. I’ve always thought the difference was obvious, but I must be wrong about that. Or you’re just reaching for something to throw in my face on a post that has nothing whatsoever to do with Allah.
And no, I’m not making a big deal about that either. I’m just responding to criticism that misses the mark. And hits the wrong author. If you have a problem with what Allah says, here’s hint: Take it up with him. On a post written by him. Or email him.

I believe Allah’s done more mocking of Fredheads than Fred. As a matter of fact, Allah believes Fred is the amongst (if not the) best in the field.
And this is a commentary news blog. MSNBC is supposed to cover the election.
amerpundit on January 19, 2008 at 11:21 PM
Maybe thats why the beginning of the speech was, postmortem..
Then it turned better?

USCitizen on January 19, 2008 at 11:23 PM
Instead of saying he was going to Florida like the other candidates did, Fred said he was going home to see his mom. I was laughing too.
Greenhorn on January 19, 2008 at 11:24 PM
I saw this. It was very clear. An on-the-ropes candidates put the word out that he was going to make “a major speech.” So they give the guy X minutes of air time, and he basically reneges on the deal. I guess that’s clever. I dunno.
Blindsiding people, even the liberals at MSNBC, “jes’ ain’t the way that muh pappy in East Tennessee, where we learned to make bigger pies, raised me. No, sir. It jes’ ain’t raaight.”
commissar on January 19, 2008 at 11:25 PM

RW, yeah it’s realistic. Fred was McCain’s 2000 National Campaign co-chair.

The anti-Southern bias gets really old. Criticize the man for his politics, not his accent. Positions can change; accents and dialect cannot.
fourstringfuror on January 19, 2008 at 11:50 PM
If Fred endorses, it will be McCain-both members of that cozy exclusive club- the Senate. All the pundits and major candidates seem to hate Romney. What they don’t admit to themselves is that Romney is better looking and richer than they are-not to mention more articulate than the entire bunch put together.

Wow! Bryan is actually ticked off at me! I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Due respect though… Allah IS HotAir, or he has at least become “the face” of HotAir. And when the face of HotAir gets his jollies pissing off honest, enthusiastic conservatives, you’ve got to expect a little backlash.
Bryan, I really think you and Michele are great. I miss VENT.
edgehead on January 20, 2008 at 12:13 AM
And as far as “obvious burning questions that the media never gets around to asking” goes, here is the topper:
“Fred, you were McCain’s campaign chair in 2000 and today you are standing in his way of gaining the nomination, what has changed about McCain since then that compels you to defeat him instead of support him?”
Obviously Fred is horse stalking for McCain but if you ask the question in that way, Fred has to end the scheme right there and then or else burn his bridges with McCain.
Buddahpundit on January 20, 2008 at 12:14 AM
It is because the media knows the 2000 campaign that they naturally assume Fred is playing that role out again. Fred had the advantage of being out of the political sphere long enough that he could come in and set his position anyway that he wanted, especially re: immigration. I’ve never been sure that the ideological distance between him and McCain is really that far.
But if he were asked that question, he would say what he said on Fox several times last week: ‘John is a very good friend of mine. John and I disagree on immigration and the Bush tax cuts and I’ve said that repeated and it’s well known. The Huckabee camp is just trying to get me to attack John to do it’s dirty work for them, and I’m just not going to do it.’ Or something like that.
That’s also why I think he may not endorse. If he exits, he exits Reaganite hero. If he endorses McCain, he burns his new-found celebrity with the Reagan conservative guard.
Spirit of 1776 on January 20, 2008 at 12:25 AM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvX_R9jdvBY
Ahem, MSNBC, you may want to cover that up.
What?
Uh, your bias is showing.
joncoltonis on January 20, 2008 at 12:54 AM
Fred probably wanted some air time or maybe it was offered to him. Too freakin’ bad for the entire media because they were just expecting and gleefully wishing he’d drop out. If it seemed anti-climactic it’s because that’s the way the media set it up.
I feel absolutely betrayed by my party and the sheeple (sheep/people) who follow blindly and allow the media to tell them how to vote. And I’m thoroughly ticked at the people who say “Oh Fred would have been good had he gotten in two months earlier.” Or he’s “lazy” or whatever. Horse crap. He’s the GOP’s only hope at beating the DEMS in November and barring a miracle, we’ll never know.
The GOP’s goose is cooked and as a whole, they deserve it.
Oink on January 20, 2008 at 1:00 AM
Anyone see Gov. Barbour’s comments about rebuilding the GOP from grass roots, instead of the current top-down status quo?
Well dammit, that’s what Fred is trying to do, and it’s going to take time.
I wonder if Fred might be McCain’s VP, it’s unlikely but I can imagine a scenario where McCain develops an agenda that’s far more conservative than his track record, based on Fred’s urging, to unite the base, and then Fred gets VP.
Not sure Fred wants VP, but he’d be pretty tough in a debate against the Dems.

Some disjointed thoughts from my very depressed brain tonight:
MSNBC = Idiots, no surprise there.
I pray that Fred’s mom is alright and that she encourages him to stay in til Super Tuesday.
All along I haven’t wanted to think about Fred being a VP to anyone, but if McCain were to choose him it might just work out the way frode proposed in the post above. Knowing a Reagan conservative was on the ticket would make me feel a lot less doom about McCain. And maybe McCain wouldn’t run four years from now so that Fred could be CiC. I’m sure the whole is unlikely… but right now, I’d rather have Fred in some capacity than not at all. I wonder though about that rumor (or was it a quote from McCain?), McCain has waited 8 years for this, hard-fought, so why would he be President for only one term? If we get stuck with him though, one term would be enough… *sigh*

MadisonConservative on January 20, 2008 at 3:24 AM
Tacky and tasteless that these farghers would laugh about a man going to see his mother who has been ill. I guess they see that as a concession. I actually heard one turd chuckle and say that anytime a candidate says he’s going to see his mother, it’s not a good sign. I think it makes him even more human than he is that he would be more concerned with his sick mom than politicking.
Besides, Fred has not said he’s out yet. I know it’s been alluded to, but until he’s out, I’m still in. He’s got enough cash to carry for a while. He’s already mentioned bailing on FL and moving past it. My thought is that he’s planning on conserving cash and sticking it out until SuperDuperMegaMonstrousGigantonormous Tuesday. If he already has an idea about which states he will not do well in, he will not concentrate his efforts there. If he can stay in until SDMMGT, we might have a shot at that fabled brokered convention we keep hearing about. Really, if the cash is there and he’s got no other plans (who makes plans when you’re running for POTUS and you don’t know which way the votes will blow??), I say stick it out, if for no other reason than to tick off the MSM.
GO FRED!
LickyLicky on January 20, 2008 at 3:29 AM
I’m sorry, but South Carolina was supposed to Fred’s state. If he can’t win there, he’s not going to win anywhere. A vote for Fred in Florida is a vote for McCain. The McAmnesty express must be stopped- VOTE MITT!
joncoltonis on January 20, 2008 at 3:42 AM
Mitt is my second choice. I’m more loyal than pragmatic. I just can’t see walking away from my guy before he makes his decision. If Fred drops out, I will go for Mitt. I think he already knew he could not win in SC, considering the strength of both McCain and Huck. Third was and is what I was expecting. Second is what I was hoping for, first would have blown me out the water.
So, yeah, until he tells me to stop, I will say, “GO FRED”.
LickyLicky on January 20, 2008 at 3:47 AM
Thinking on history… In 1860 the candidate chosen to be the nominee at the Republican convention was fourth in delegates and only won one state (his home state)… He won at the convention because he was the only candidate that was acceptable to all the wings of the party. This candidate later became President… his name was Abe Lincoln. A case can be made that only Fred Thompson is acceptable to all wings of the party. I think this is why he should stay in until the convention.

Those two, Chris Matthews and Olbermann, have literally no class, no professionalism, no talent are stunningly pathetic. How disappointing to see grown men act like fools.
I’ll never forget Michelle’s run in with that democrapic hack, Chris Matthews. She was to comment on the swift boat book passage noting that self proclaimed war hero, John Francoise Kerry’s questionable purple hearts (3 needed to run home to the hippie girls). Matthews, acting the fool, was indignant and basically accused her as if she had written the passage! Michelle should have slapped the snot out of the pansy!

Instead of mewling, why not challenge AP using persuasive, fact-based arguments on specific statements he makes. General statements like “waaah, you are so unfair, you big bully” is not a persuasive argument.
Do you think that McCain is not as much of a lib as most of us believe, or that Fred is not as staunchly conservative?

I’ll ditto that. All of us have felt the sting of AP’s barbed pen. But the guy works night and day to bring us news and analysis, and the thanks he gets is to be scapegoated for our frustrations. Honestly, I do not understand how Keith Olbermann is on television. I really do not. He’s such an angry, abusive, vile little man with a perpetual sneer on his face. He is the unhinged face of the American left, and I simply cannot believe people want that to run this country for the next four years. Is that really what it means to be a liberal?
