Predictable: Democrats lose, Democrats claim shenanigans

I guess we’re just going to have to get used to this sort of after-the-fact crying foul in every single election involving a Democrat.

It’s not just one diary on Kos. Here’s another. The Obama campaign itself has made the claim of “more than 200 voting irregularities” in Nevada.

We never hear anything like this on the Republican side.

That the Clintons are involved lends the possibility of it actually having some weight, I’ll admit. But Bill Clinton was out claiming shenanigans against the Obama campaign earlier in the day. Both campaigns apparently wanted to taint the possible victory that the other might have won today.

That the Democrats keep engaging in these low games may the most obvious case of long-term mass psychological projection this country has ever seen.

If democrats can’t run a primary properly, how can they lead the country?

Or something like that.

Do I have to clarify by adding “from the actual campaigns” or are you equating some commenters and Paulites with the likes of Bill Clinton?

Bryan on January 19, 2008 at 10:27 PM

I’m enjoying the show, I have to admit.

The crazy elements on the left are always looking for the dark conspiracy behind their failures (because it couldn’t possibly be lunatic policies), and the Democrats in government are only too happy to encourage their lunacy. Now those crazy-ass chickens are coming home to roost for the donks and the schaudenfreude could not be sweeter.

BTW Bryan I did get your point. The Paulies are libertarians pretending to be republicans and the huckabackers here isnt the Huck Campaign.

Its been SOP for the dems to yel “CHEATING” whenever they lose elections. And almost exclusively they link it to racism.

Bryan, you are too smart to believe that any of these voting contests are above board. Do you think that these operatives in the media or the political parties get into this career field because they have a burning desire to make sure that an honest accounting of the will of the people is recorded?

…or do they get into the business because they have a burning desire to see to it that their agendas succeed?

Let’s have a vote on this question. Let me count the votes.

Very Clintonian indeed.

The worst part of all this is that it’s been hyped by Russian governmental outlet Russia Today TV, which had the “election fraud” news up early on Google News (which had it as one of its top stories for quite some time). Even though I think his views could be dangerous, in the past I’ve respected Kucinich for his integrity. But giving the Russian government anti-American propaganda that lets that nation imply they’re more democratic than the U.S.? That’s pretty bad.

No if you’ll excuse me, I need to find Gepetto as it seems my nose has grown again.

Seriously, why can’t they just come out and say what everyone knows “people don’t like whiners, and we’ve become serial whiners and will lose more often than not the more our party platform is to take the ball and go home anytime things don’t go our way”

Democrats have been stealing elections for two centuries. To suppose that one Democrat would never steal an election from another Democrat is to suppose that there is honor among thieves.

Ali-Bubba on January 20, 2008 at 12:08 PM

I agree with Ali-Bubba. (never thought I’d type those particular words)

But seriously, the Dems have been cheating at elections since their infancy. It’s not surprising that they should cry “cheat” whenever their nominee of choice doesn’t pass muster. It couldn’t be because they are the candidate that received the most votes. It must be because the other side cheated more effectively than their side did.

Jewels on January 20, 2008 at 12:31 PM

That the Democrats keep engaging in these low games may the most obvious case of long-term mass psychological projection this country has ever seen.

It’s worse than that.

As Huey Long observed decades ago, if Fascism ever comes to America, it’ll call itself “anti-Fascism.” The combination of demonstrated Democrat cheating to win (e.g., Frank Lautenberg and Tim Johnson in the US Senate, Christine Gregoire in Washington state, massive voter fraud throwing the Wisconsin 2004 presidential election to Kerry) - coupled with constantly insinuating that any election in which they don’t win must have been “fixed” - steadily chips away at the faith of the American electorate in their own elections, and consequently in their own Republic.

We’re already in a situation where barely half of eligible voters bother to cast their votes, and the other half are becoming increasingly of the belief that their votes don’t matter because the results are being jury-rigged. Historically this is the type of fertile ground giving rise to the appearance of the “Man on Horseback” - a demogogue or faux-populist (often with a militaristic and totalitarian ideological movement behind him) who claims that the whole system is corrupt and should be thrown out, and that he and his acolytes can be counted on to “clean things up” and “restore honor and dignity” to government.

This is at least in part how the Hellenistic civilizations threw away their own representative governments for dictators and emperors, and how tyrants from Oliver Cromwell and Napoleon Bonaparte to Hideki Tojo and Hugo Chavez have hoodwinked entire populations into casting their lot with oligarchies.

Democrats, of course, believe that they are the ones who should benefit from any collapse of confidence in our electoral system - as well as the corruption of the system itself - and they work relentlessly to bring about that collapse, because they think that it’ll leave them on top.

In the short term, they may be right. But in the long term they are paving the way for a road to Hell in which not only the Republicans but they themselves and our freedom as well will be in the express lane.

Spurius Ligustinus on January 20, 2008 at 1:58 PM

It’s not surprising that they should cry “cheat” whenever their nominee of choice doesn’t pass muster

there appears to be a certain amont of discussion about just who the democrats nomination of choice is.

Lemme’ go out on a limb here…

The election for governor of the state of Washington, after a count, and then a recount, where the election hinged on two votes for the entire state, was finally decided in favor of the Donk candidate, by a box of ballots, found in a corner, in Pierce county, one of only two counties, that carried the votes for the Donks.

not complainin’, y’unnerstan’…it’s just that we can’t get rid of the stench.
