I just typed out four long paragraphs talking about the things Mexicans need to do about their lousey government. Then I erased the whole thing realizing it's a waste of internet ether. The Mexicans have already found the best way to deal with their pethetic country. They leave it.

May I suggest though, that you start invading China. That's where all the jobs are now.

AZ_Mike, that is exactly how it is. Where do you live down there, I used to live in SV and have many friends that own land south of town, including some ranchers. Those pictures truly are what it looks like but the enviro-wackos don't take that into consideration.

Sure does. Meanwhile, the environmentalist wackos are trying to get the fence stopped because it will cause "harm" to the area. They say nothing about all the trash, human waste, etc. that the illegals leave that is choking the desert around the border.

The world's population may double by 2050 and virtually all of the population increase will be in developing countries. Already, there are many such countries exporting manual labor to the developed world and who rely on remittances sent home to stave off unrest. Mexico would be a basket case if all the illegals returned home, and the troubles in southern Mexico, where people can't work in factories along the US border, would spread everywhere. The mass migration of people out of poverty stricken areas into the developed world has been ongoing for years now, and will only get worse.

I hear birds singing

So, how did Sonora handle the demand before the immigrants left in the first place?
I’m sure the next thing we’ll hear is that they were manufactured for this market.

Speakup on January 19, 2008 at 7:30 PM

Did any Americans realize free trade would include exporting workers?

The net result of free trade between Mexico and the US:

1. Wealthy businessese in the US made a lot of money selling consumer goods to Mexico

2. Wealthy businesses in the US made an ungodly volcano of profit by replacing American citizen workers with illegal Mexican workers for service jobs, and to manufacture goods to sell to the world

3. The American worker, many displaced by illegals, retained his legal and tax obligations as a citizen while being required to shoulder the legal and tax obligations of the illegal workers

4. In the final battle to preserve the system politicians are attempting to give votes to the imported workers

The lower middle class American household has gone from households where both parents worked to households where many parents work two jobs. I have witnessed workers in $8 an hour jobs rush to their second job, the one that buys food

They have tried to brainwash us to think we cannot run our nation by law.

E pluribus unum is our battle cry. One nation from many, not many nations from one!

Haven't there been reports that because so many have jumped the border to work in the U.S. that Mexico was having it's own shortage of skilled workers? And, they were trying to come up with ideas to replace them? Well now, have we got a deal for them. When they can absorb about 50% of the ones that have lived here illegally for years, I'll consider playing the tourist down there again.

As far as leaving a spouse and house full of kids for the taxpayer to support here, have to agree with drjohn it does speak volumnes about character and the much abused "family values" our elected critters keep throwing out.

This is what I really despise:

He said the Arizona law will lead to "disintegration of the family," as one "legal" Mexican parent remains in Arizona and the other returns to Mexico.

Whose fault is this? Who was the freaking genius who fails to think the problem through?

And mostly- why does this have to become OUR problem?

It's NOT our problem. It's THEIR problem.

If they want to live with split families, then let them! But in doing so it would speak volumes about the kind of people we're speaking about.

I reject the premise that it's the obligation of any government to take care of its citizens (or another country's citizens) if that means socialized solutions. I suppose that part of the problem in this regard is being solved by Arizona by rejecting this premise.

One would think that Mexico would give capitalism a better try. What an opportunity for businesses to take advantage of the influx of Mexican workers. As long as those businesses aren't in fear of being nationalized by Mexico, it'd be great for them.

I suppose that part of the problem in this regard is being solved by Arizona by rejecting this premise.

Mexico has plenty of land there really isn't any reason those returning back to move farther south into touristy areas such as Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, or Cancun. There are plenty of Brits and Germans who vacation in those parts and spend "muy dinero!" Then again Mexicans are very territorial and they don't even trust each other!

I think our problem with these foreign nationals invading our country will soon be over.
All these people looking the other way will rethink their position when we have 20% unemployment nationwide.
I bet we’ll have a WPA/CCC type work project to build that fence then.
